Chapter 532: Do I have the right to know?

"Mr. Knight." Seeing Alaric, Tommy still greeted him politely. Alaric responded coldly, remaining aloof.

"You're all here," Neil said as he walked out, addressing Alaric and Tommy. "Come on in."

Alaric and Tommy followed Neil inside. Once in, Alaric asked, "Where's Hestia's body?"

"Sent to the medical examiner. We should have results soon." Neil replied, glancing at Alaric, who understood the implication.

"Neil, you don't think I killed her, do you?" Alaric half-joked.

From the moment Hestia first approached him, Alaric hadn't paid much attention, especially after Stellan sued her. He was too busy taking care of Stellan to worry about Hestia.

"I know it wasn't you. It's just a reflex to think like a cop. Besides, I'm not in charge of this case; Tommy is." Neil answered.

The last thing Alaric wanted was for Tommy to handle the case, but that was the situation.

"Don't worry, Mr. Knight. I'll get to the bottom of this." Tommy assured Alaric.

'He would get to the bottom of it? What if Hestia's death was connected to Tommy? Could he really uncover the truth?' Alaric thought inwardly.

"Tommy, I appreciate it," Alaric replied, his gaze sharp. "Tommy, you know Stellan is pregnant. After the last court session, her morning sickness got worse. Now with Hestia dead, Stellan is the prime suspect. The mastermind behind this won't stop until Stellan has a miscarriage."

Wasn't the mastermind's intention clear enough? From the moment Hestia appeared, the goal was to send Stellan to prison. After Stellan got pregnant and sued Hestia, Hestia was killed. Even if they couldn't imprison Stellan, the stress could cause complications with her pregnancy. It was a cruel plan.

Alaric blamed himself for being negligent. After the court session, he was so focused on Stellan's severe morning sickness that he didn't pay attention to Hestia.

Alaric's words left Tommy speechless. After a moment, Tommy comforted him, "Don't worry, Mr. Knight. I won't let that happen."

Tommy then turned to Neil. "Neil, I want to check with the medical examiner."

"I was planning to go too," Neil spoke, turning to Alaric. "Alaric, you can wait here or go home. Staying here all night won't help."

"I know. You guys go ahead."

. After Alaric watching them leave, he checked his phone. No calls from The Knight Mansion, which meant Stellan was still asleep. As long as Stellan was fine, he could stay calm and wait.

Tommy and Neil arrived at the medical examiner's office just as the autopsy was being completed.

"What's the situation?" Neil asked.

"Estimated time of death is four days ago. There are fibers in her nose, likely from a towel used to suffocate her." the medical examiner replied.

Four days ago? That was right after the first court session. Hestia was killed shortly after leaving the court?

"When will the detailed report be ready?" Neil asked.

"Tomorrow. I'll send it over as soon as it's done."

"Good, as soon as possible."

Tommy had been silent, staring intently at Hestia's cold body.

"Tommy? Tommy?"

Neil called his name twice before Tommy snapped out of it.

Neil patted his chest. "What are you thinking about?"

"Nothing." Tommy replied.

"Don't expect to sleep tonight," Neil spoke. "I'm on duty tonight. I came straight there after the call. Since you're in charge, I'll take you to the crime scene to see if it's the primary scene."

"Okay," Tommy agreed, tearing his gaze from the body and following Neil out.

Alaric was still at the station, surprising Neil. "Alaric, you're still here? It's almost 3 or 4 AM. Go home. We'll call you if anything comes up."

Seeing them about to leave, Alaric asked, "Where are you going?"

"I'm taking Tommy to the crime scene."

"Can I come?" Alaric questioned.

Neil considered it and agreed. "Sure, seeing the scene won't hurt."

"Great," Alaric added. "I'll ride with Tommy."

Neil glanced at Tommy, who nodded. "Okay."

They all headed out, with Neil leading the way in his car and Tommy following. Alaric sat in the passenger seat.

It was the first time Alaric and Tommy were alone in such a private space, making the atmosphere quite tense.

"Tommy, any thoughts on Hestia's death?" Alaric voiced first.

"The worst thing at the start of a case is preconceived notions. Once you have an opinion, it can cloud your judgment. Any initial thoughts should come after understanding the whole situation." Tommy replied.

"Good point," Alaric nodded approvingly. "As expected of a PhD, very logical and thorough."

Tommy remained silent.

"How's Gillian?" Alaric asked.

"Gillian is doing well. She's very diligent, studying at home to pursue a PhD."

"That's great. I've watched Gillian grow up. She's quite headstrong. If it weren't for Mr. Emberlyn, who asked me to look after her, no one could handle her. It's impressive that you've won her favor so quickly."

Tommy's eyes flickered. If he told Alaric that he and Gillian were now a couple, would Alaric be angry?

"I have to disagree with you, Mr. Knight. Gillian may be a bit headstrong, but not to that extent. She's been well-protected, so she's pure, cute, and straightforward." Tommy replied.

"You're the first to praise Gillian like that," Alaric spoke. "Gillian is indeed straightforward. When she likes someone, she doesn't hide it. You must have noticed she likes you."

"Yes."

"From what you said, it seems you have a good impression of her. Gillian is Mr. Emberlyn's only daughter. When he left Arizona, he entrusted her to me. Now she lives with you, and it's natural for you to develop feelings. As her friend, don't I have the right to know more about the person she likes?"
