Chapter 528: He's the Only One in the World Who's Worried

It was already pretty late to go out for dinner at that time. Gillian treated him to some pasta, fearing that Tommy might not like other dishes.

"I've never eaten at this time before." Regardless of whether he had eaten or not, Tommy would never eat anything after 8 PM.

"That's totally normal for me. This is when the exciting part of the day begins." Gillian voiced.

"Staying up late isn't good."

"Yeah, everyone knows staying up late isn't good, but not many people are as disciplined as you. I'll try to change that in the future."

Tommy remained silent.

"Your right arm is injured. Can you eat?"

"It's fine, I can use my left hand too."

"Wow, you can use both hands? That's awesome!"

Gillian's compliment made Tommy a bit embarrassed. He replied, "It's no big deal to be ambidextrous. A lot of people can do it. Aren't you hungry? Let's eat."

While eating, Gillian looked at his injured hand and then asked, "Were you alone on the mission today?"

"No, there were several of us."

"For such a dangerous task, why would you charge ahead while others stay back? It's just your arm that got hurt, but what if it had been your heart? That would be terrifying!"

Tommy smiled and replied, "If no one rushed forward, the criminals would have escaped."

"In that way, you're just like my dad. He always rushes forward regardless of the danger, as if his life isn't his own," Gillian complained. "My mom passed away early, so it's just me worrying about him."

Tommy had heard about Thomas's deeds and knew about Mrs. Emberlyn's death.

"Mr. Emberlyn passed away early?"

"Yeah, they said it was pancreatic cancer. She passed away suddenly. I was young then and have no memory of my mom."

After hearing this, Tommy was silent for a while. Seeing him lost in thought, Gillian reminded him, "What are you spacing out for? Eat up. The health inspections are strict now; the food outside isn't as dirty as you think. Look at me, I've been eating it for years and I'm fine."

Tommy smiled faintly, then picked up his utensils and continued eating.

"What about you?" Gillian asked. "Aren't your parents worried about you doing such dangerous work? You're a PhD in finance; you could do something else. You don't have to be a cop."

When his parents were mentioned again, Tommy gave a bitter smile and replied, "I haven't been in contact with them for many years. They don't know what I'm doing now."

"What!" Gillian was genuinely shocked. "Why? How can you not be in contact with your parents for so many years? My dad, no matter how busy he is, always calls me. He'd tie me to his side if he could."

Tommy's eyes clouded over with a layer of mist, but the sadness within was still visible.

"My parents divorced when I was very young, and they both remarried quickly. My mom married a rich man and had another son. When I went to see her, her family wasn't happy. My mom was angry but didn't dare to say anything.

My dad married a colleague who was also divorced and had a son. Later, they had a daughter together. I remember once when I went to their house, I could smell they were eating roast chicken. But as soon as I walked in, they quickly hid it and brought out crackers, telling me they were too poor to support three kids. So I stopped going, and that's why..."

Hearing this, Gillian couldn't help but feel sad. Although she lost her mother at a young age, Thomas had always doted on her and never let her face any troubles.

After Tommy finished speaking, he felt the atmosphere become a bit heavy. He quickly apologized, "Sorry, I said too much."

"No," Gillian encouraged him. "If they don't take care of you, you don't have to take care of them. When you become successful, let them regret it!"

Tommy felt warm at Gillian's encouragement and nodded, "Okay."

"By the way, I've been living in your house, and you're my free coach and teacher. How can that be fair? Name a price, and I'll pay you rent."

"No need. I've already said, Mr. Emberlyn was kind to me. Taking care of you is my duty. It's my honor that you trust me enough to stay at my place," Tommy replied.

Since he refused, she let it go.

After they finished eating, it was already very late. Tommy took Gillian home. As he was about to leave, Gillian voiced, "It's so late. Don't go back to the dorm. You're injured, and I don't feel comfortable with you living alone. Come home."

Gillian pulled Tommy back into the house. Tommy didn't refuse, "Go to sleep."

"You're injured. Can you sleep on the couch?"

"It's just a small injury. No problem," Tommy said again. "Go to sleep. Good night."

"Good night."

Gillian went back to her bedroom. She closed the door but then thought about it and left it open. She woke up the same way she fell asleep; Tommy never came in.

"Seriously, I've hinted so obviously. We're both adults, why isn't he making a move?"

Maybe it was due to her upbringing. Gillian was very open about sexual relationships, but Tommy seemed so traditional.

"Has Gillian been staying at Tommy's place all these days?"

Since Alaric had finished assigning work to Cormac, he had been staying home with Stellan.

"Yes."

"And you're not worried? What if they..."

After all, living together could easily lead to a romantic relationship.

"It's not that I don't want to deal with her, I just can't." Gillian was acting like a madwoman. The more Alaric said, the more it seemed like he was jealous of Tommy. What else could he say?

"Actually, if they end up dating, it would be great. They are quite compatible."

"You think so too?" Alaric was surprised by Stellan's opinion.

"They're around the same age and both single. Why not?"

After calling Thomas, he thought Thomas would be furious if he knew about Gillian and Tommy's close relationship.

But when he heard it was Tommy, Thomas seemed relieved, which surprised Alaric.

Alaric couldn't help but smile bitterly and uttered self-deprecatingly, "It seems like I'm the only one in the world who doesn't trust Tommy. I hope I'm wrong and just overthinking."

"I hope you're overthinking too. That way, Gillian and Tommy can have a good relationship."

Alaric remained silent.

After a while, Alaric looked at Stellan and asked with concern, "Your morning sickness seems to be getting worse. Are you holding up okay?"

"Isn't that just part of being pregnant? There's no 'holding up' about it."

"Time seems to pass so slowly. It feels like it's been ages, but the first trimester isn't even over."

The three-month checkup was the first hurdle. Alaric had been worried about it, making time feel like it was dragging.

"Hang in there. It will definitely be a good result."

"Okay." Alaric nodded and then added, "By the way, this afternoon, lawyer Alvin Jordan called me. He said the case you filed against Hestia will go to court in a few days. He also talked to the court, so you don't have to show up due to your condition."
