Chapter 506: Do you feel like we've been tricked?

Regarding Caspian's question, Alaric suddenly didn't know how to respond. Before he could say anything, Harry immediately complained, "Dad, you actually had me use hacking skills to look up a cop's information. Are you really trying to get me thrown in jail?"

Alaric was speechless once again. Tommy was his nemesis. Anything involving him would bring bad luck.

"This matter is complicated. I didn't expect his identity to be like that," Alaric replied, not wanting to talk much about Tommy. "Now that you know, let's just leave it. We won't have any more dealings with him anyway, so there's no need to talk about it. Alright, go back to your studies. I'll pick you up this afternoon."

After hanging up the phone, Alaric was shocked by what he saw on the website.

Because of his bravery in fighting off a criminal and his good looks, the officials featured Tommy in various promotional and public service videos on their Facebook account and other major video platforms. Every video got tons of views. Nowadays, you could say Tommy isn’t just a cop; he’s a hugely popular celebrity.

Of course, Tommy was not only popular online but also in real life.

Seeing yet another female colleague coming out of the office after submitting a department transfer request, Neil's subordinate whispered to him, "Neil, these days, female colleagues from other departments are fighting to transfer here. It's all because of Tommy. Being handsome really has its perks, huh?"

"Instead of gossiping, why don't you focus on solving cases?" Neil immediately reprimanded. "Get ready for the meeting."

"Yes, sir, right away!"

This meeting wasn't chaired by Neil but by his superior. It lasted an hour, but Neil was criticized for half of it because his cases had no progress.

After the meeting, no one dared to speak. Neil was already bad-tempered, and now that he had been reprimanded, who would dare provoke him?

But someone did dare. Everyone watched as Tommy knocked on Neil's office door and walked in, all thinking, "He's really brave."

Neil was reviewing case files when he saw Tommy come in. "What's up?" he asked.

"Neil, sorry to interrupt your work," Tommy said politely. "The Storm family case was sensational when it first happened. Now that it's been reopened after many years, the higher-ups are naturally concerned. I understand your pressure.

So I want to help you. You can focus on the Storm family case, and I can take over your other cases, like the Marigold accidental death case."

Neil looked up at Tommy with surprise. "You want to take on the Marigold case?"

"Not just this one, sir. You can give me all the other small cases you have. I think it's better if we have different people working on the Storm family case and the Marigold case, since they involve the same person. The Storm family case is already a handful for you; no need to get distracted by the other small cases."

Hearing this, Neil remembered what Alaric had told him. Alaric still didn't approve of Tommy. What would happen if he let Tommy take charge of this case?

"Neil, I understand your concerns. Because of what happened before, Mr. Knight and I have some misunderstandings. But I know it was all my fault. It's right for Mr. Knight not to forgive me. But I know how to keep my personal and professional life separate." Tommy voiced firmly.

Neil was indeed overwhelmed. The Storm family case had hit a dead end with Stuart, and he hadn't figured out a lead yet.

"Alright," Neil agreed. "Go find Officer Vernon for the case files."

"Thank you for your trust. I'll get to work." Tommy said, bowing slightly before leaving.

Watching Tommy leave, Neil sighed again, hoping Alaric wouldn't blame him for this decision. He really was overwhelmed.

Alaric waited right on time at the school gate when school was out. Seeing Caspian, Harry, and Elisa come out, he quickly went to meet them.

Although it had only been a few days, it felt like a long time. He really missed them!

"Daddy!"

Caspian, Harry, and Elisa ran towards Alaric. He immediately bent down to pick up Elisa, while Caspian and Harry stood obediently in front of him.

"I missed you so much." Elisa was whining in Alaric's arms.

"I missed you too," Alaric kissed Elisa. "Get in the car. I'll make you something delicious at home."

"Okay!"

Caspian, Harry, and Elisa got into the car. Once inside, they still felt uneasy. Harry asked again, "Daddy, you really didn't fight with Mommy this time?"

"No!" Alaric answered very firmly.

Caspian, Harry, and Elisa exchanged looks. It didn't seem like he was lying.

"So you just missed us and wanted to take us home? No other reason?" Elisa asked again.

If he told them it was also because of Gillian, would they scold him?

"No, I just missed you," Alaric decided not to say anything. He wanted to take them home to prevent them from choosing to stay at school if they knew Gillian was there.

"That's good," Harry complained. "Stop pretending you have a love story and we're just a mistake. Stop pushing us away all the time."

Hearing Harry talk always made Alaric want to laugh. Harry's way of speaking was always so peculiar.

Caspian, Harry, and Elisa also felt like they hadn't been home in a long time. As soon as they got out of the car, they happily ran towards the hall. They were about to pounce on Stellan when they suddenly saw Gillian standing nearby.

Caspian, Harry, and Elisa were all stunned.

Stellan didn't expect them to come home today, and Gillian was even more surprised, making the situation instantly awkward.

"Mommy, who is she?"

"This is your dad's friend, Gillian. She came to Arizona to visit and will be staying with us for a few days." Stellan quickly explained.

So they had a guest?

"Do you feel a sense of being deceived?" Harry whispered to Caspian and Elisa.

"Yes, very much," Caspian replied.

"Damn Dad, using us like this!"

What happened to sincerity? What happened to just missing them?

"Hello, Gillian." Although they were unhappy inside, they still smiled politely.
