Chapter 546: It's a Small World After All
"Josep from the Institute of Medical Pioneers?" Gillian was extremely pleased after finding out. "Great, even someone like me who knows nothing about medicine knows that the Institute of Medical Pioneers is the most renowned research institute in the entire medical field. Having Josep come over as your family representative is totally fine.
But don't say anything else, just say he's a very close uncle. It's a white lie, say your parents didn't raise you and it was all thanks to Josep. Josep is a highly respected medical professor. If my dad knew you were raised by him, he'd definitely agree immediately!"
"Gillian, isn't it bad to lie like this? Uncle Josep and I are really distant relatives, we didn't even know each other before."
"Tommy, can you not be so honest? I said it's a white lie. Just say what I told you to say, my dad will definitely agree. After we get married, even if the lie is exposed, so what, right?"
"But..."
"No buts, this is for our future. To get past my dad and get married smoothly, just do it. Hurry up to call Josep, make sure he doesn't slip up."
Just as Gillian finished speaking, Thomas's phone rang. Gillian quickly reminded Tommy, "Remember what I said, make sure you and Josep are on the same page, don't mess it up. Tommy, my dad is rushing me, I have to go."
Gillian reluctantly hugged him and kissed his lips.
"I really have to go. For us to get married soon, you have to work hard. Bye, Tommy, I'll miss you." Before leaving, Gillian kissed him on the lips again, then reluctantly left.
After watching her leave, Tommy took out his phone, organized his thoughts, and called Josep.
When Josep's call came in, Stellan had just returned from a walk with Alaric and was about to take a nap. Seeing it was Josep, she quickly answered.
"Josep."
No one had told Josep about her being kidnapped by Ambrose after his last call to her.
If they had told him, Josep would have felt very guilty, so no one mentioned it.
"Galatea, I heard from Tommy that you're pregnant. Why didn't you tell me about such a big thing?"
Josep was to Stellan what Thomas was to Alaric, not just a teacher but the person they respected the most.
"Sorry, Josep, I was planning to tell you after the first three months when everything was stable."
Stellan really intended to do that. The first trimester checkup was crucial; if any abnormalities were found, she would have to consider an abortion.
"I understand," Josep continued, "I'll be heading to Arizona in the next couple of days."
"You're coming over?"
"Yes, as Tommy's family representative," Josep explained. "Tommy really impressed me. He just called to say he's in a relationship, and his girlfriend is Mr. Emberlyn's daughter. He said Mr. Emberlyn wants both families to talk. But since Tommy's parents divorced when he was young and haven't been in touch, he called me to go."
Mr. Emberlyn wants both families to talk? Does that mean he has agreed?
Could it be? If he agreed, why was Gillian so angry this morning when she questioned Alaric?
Or maybe Thomas couldn't refuse Gillian in the end and compromised? That's possible.
"That's great. When are you coming? I'll pick you up at the airport."
"You're pregnant, so don't go to crowded places like the airport. Tommy can pick me up." At this point, Josep couldn't help but sigh, "Isn't fate amazing? Tommy told me that Mr. Emberlyn was Mr. Knight's former boss."
"Indeed, it's quite a coincidence," Stellan agreed.
"When I get to Arizona, let's have a meal together."
"Sure," Stellan nodded. "No matter who you're here for, once you're in Arizona, leave all the accommodation and dining arrangements to Alaric and me."
"Alright, see you then."
"Okay, Josep."
After finishing the call, Stellan went to find Alaric. Alaric, possibly bored at home, had started decorating the nursery.
"Alaric, we don't even know if it's a boy or a girl yet. Isn't it too early to decorate the nursery?"
"It's not too early. I have a strong feeling it's a girl. I'll decorate it as a girl's room. If it's a boy, it doesn't matter. He's just a baby; he won't know. We'll raise him as a girl until he's three."
Stellan smiled helplessly and then pulled him aside, speaking, "Stop for a moment, I need to tell you something important."
Stellan pulled Alaric outside and uttered, "Alaric, Josep just called me. He said he'll be coming to Arizona in the next couple of days."
"Josep is coming to Arizona?" Alaric was also surprised. "Why is he suddenly coming to Arizona?"
"He said it's for Tommy. Isn't he Tommy's uncle? It seems Mr. Emberlyn has compromised on Tommy and Gillian's matter. He wants both families to meet and talk. Since Tommy hasn't been in touch with his parents for years, he asked Josep to be his family representative."
Thomas compromised?
Well, with Gillian being his only daughter and her threatening to die, it's hard for him not to compromise.
This is going to be interesting. Thomas is coming to Arizona, and now Josep is coming too.
"Josep also said we should have a meal together. After all, Mr. Emberlyn is your benefactor, and you're considered Gillian's family. I'm Josep's student, so..."
"This world is really small," Alaric couldn't help but sigh.
"I'm not going," Alaric voiced. "I've already said I won't interfere in Gillian and Tommy's matters anymore. Why should I go when they're discussing marriage? I'm not going!"
"Alaric, sometimes I find you really childish. Didn't you say Gillian is just a simple person? She's much younger than you, why be mad at her? Besides, I've already agreed with Josep."
Afraid that Alaric would be angry, Stellan quickly persuaded, "I admit it was wrong not to discuss it with you, but I couldn't refuse Josep when he mentioned having a meal together. It will be over quickly, can you do that, Alaric?"
