Chapter 608 He Is Destined to Go to Prison

Gillian lay back on the hospital bed, her mind a chaotic mix of thoughts. About half an hour later, Cormac returned.

"Mr. Emberlyn's left Arizona City," he said.

Hearing this, tears streamed down Gillian's face. She knew her father must be furious.

Cormac had tried to stop Thomas, but he was too angry and had immediately bought a ticket and left. Cormac didn't dare say anything; Thomas was so upset that it seemed like his heart was acting up.

Gillian continued to cry silently, and Cormac didn't know what to say, feeling quite awkward.

"Where's Tommy?" After a while, Gillian looked up at Cormac and asked, "Where is he now?"

"He's probably still at the hospital, with police watching him. They likely won't allow visitors," Cormac replied. "Besides, in your current state, seeing him would only worry him more. Let's wait until you're both feeling better. Alaric got special permission to see him, so let's let them talk for now."

Gillian fell silent again, lowering her head.

At that moment, Alaric was still talking with Tommy. When they talked about Gillian, Tommy's face lit up with a smile, but it faded by the end of their conversation.

"I can't make up for the harm I've caused her. She was so pure, so in love with me, and I nearly destroyed her."

If he hadn't agreed to date her, if he hadn't been so careless and let her discover clues, she wouldn't have been burned. He felt unforgivable.

"This is between you two. I have no right to blame you on her behalf, nor to forgive you. When you get the chance to meet, you can talk it out. But I'm curious, after you slipped up and she found out, why did the fire happen at your place if you were so careful?"

Alaric knew Tommy didn't start the fire, but who could have entered his home to create the illusion of an accidental fire?

"After Gillian found out, I was very cautious. I even changed the locks. My godfather was worried and had someone watching Gillian. That day, she lost her keys but thought she had just misplaced them, so she didn't tell me. If I had known, I wouldn't have been so careless. Before leaving, I repeatedly told her to stay home, thinking she'd be safe there. I didn't expect my godfather's people to steal her keys."

That day, Gillian had been checking banks, going from one to another. The person tailing her saw her enter a bank and reported to Joe.

Joe knew which bank held Tommy's account. The tail saw her meet Alaric after leaving the bank.

Joe, not trusting the situation, had his people steal her keys. They had already scouted Tommy's neighborhood and avoided the cameras, using the keys to enter his home.

Tommy regretted not being more careful.

"Why didn't you trust Josep?"

From his behavior at the hospital, it was clear he was wary of Josep.

"I didn't distrust my uncle; I was just worried," Tommy explained. "My godfather told me Josep was a distant uncle. I didn't believe it at first, but Josep confirmed it, so I let it go."

"When my uncle came to Arizona City, I found him a place to stay. He insisted on living in the same complex, saying it was convenient."

"That night, I drank too much, and Gillian found my phone. She didn't think much of it, and I thought it was fine, but my godfather found out immediately."

"I wasn't sure if Vivienne had been bribed or if my uncle was spying on me, so after firing Vivienne, I was cautious around my uncle."

"Especially that night, when I took Gillian out and she got mugged. When I returned, my uncle brought me fruit, which made me suspicious."

"I feared my uncle was working for my godfather and might harm Gillian. When she was burned and hospitalized, my uncle was the first to visit, making me even more uneasy. I was afraid my godfather wanted to kill Gillian, and my uncle was his agent."

"I was wrong to suspect him. It turned out Vivienne had been bribed."

"We hired Vivienne as a housekeeper, and soon after, my godfather's people approached her, offering a large sum to report on us. She agreed."

"My uncle was genuinely kind and only wanted to help. If my actions made Mr. Knight suspect him, I'm sorry."

"You don't need to call him uncle; he wasn't your uncle."

"What?" Tommy was shocked. "He wasn't my uncle?"

"No, he was just a scapegoat your godfather found."

"But Josep said he was my uncle."

Tommy had doubted it at first, but when Josep seemed to remember him, he dismissed his doubts, thinking it was a coincidence.

"So Josep wasn't my uncle?"

Alaric shrugged, unable to answer. "You'd have to ask Josep, but..."

But now Josep probably didn't want to talk to them at all!

After seeing Tommy, Alaric felt relieved. Though he had misjudged, he was glad Tommy wasn't the person he feared.

He returned to the hospital. Stellan was asleep, and he checked on Evelyn in the incubator, who was also sleeping.

Leaving the incubator, Alaric decided to visit Josep. He had been busy with his wife and child and hadn't had time to see him. Just then, he saw Neil approaching with a bouquet.

"I'm here to visit Josep on behalf of the police," Neil said.

"I was just heading there."

"Let's go together," Neil said. "Josep has been through a lot; we need to apologize."

"Agreed," Alaric nodded. Josep was the most innocent in this ordeal, and Alaric felt responsible.

"By the way, we've cleared Tommy. He wasn't involved in Joe's crimes or part of the organization. He was just Joe's adopted son. Joe did many bad things, but seemed to have some humanity left for Tommy, treating him well."

Alaric had gathered that from Tommy's story and didn't doubt it.

"Though Tommy wasn't part of the organization, he harbored a major criminal and tried to take the fall, seriously obstructing justice. He'll be sentenced, but his cooperation will reduce his time."

Alaric knew this. They reached Josep's room, and Alaric felt a heavy sense of guilt but steeled himself to enter.
