Chapter 10
Kyrah's POV
"What?" I ask her. I clearly heard what she said but I need to hear it again.
"She's alive," Roxy says with a firm facial expression.
"You lied to me, all these years, why?"
I seriously can't continue with this conversation calmly, so I start pacing across the room, back and forth.
"Why? What was the reason? Who was that woman you and your brother lived with back then? Wasn't she your mom?" I ask.
"Olivia is my aunt. We only called her 'mom' in public," her voice is quite low that I am struggling to hear her words.
Immediately I stop in front of her and rub my temple.
"Where is your mom? Where has she been all these years? How could she leave you and your brother..." I sound angry? Well maybe I am, where in the world has Roxy's mom been? I've never heard of her at all except that she died but how is she still alive and doesn't visit Roxy?
Maybe I am overreacting. Well, I haven't heard Roxy's story so I might as well just shut up and listen.
"Just tell me everything Roxy."
"Not everything can be said right now, but I'll tell you part of it," she clears her throat.
"Okay," I say, moving closer to her.
Roxy looks at me and swallows hard. She looks terrified and I am wondering what might be the story behind all these tears.
"My mum..." her voice breaks and she gains courage again to continue talking "... Alicia... Her name is Alicia, she sacrificed alot for me and my brother. It all happened when I was six years old, when we moved here. I wasn't a happy girl back then... Not that I am now but, there was a reason as to why I was always quiet. My aunt Olivia had an affair with my dad and my mother got to know about it..."
She takes a very deep breath and hides her face in her hands.
"The moment dad got to know that my mum found out about their little fling, he picked Vic and I from school and the next thing, we were on a plane. We found Olivia waiting for us. She didn't talk to us that much because she was too embarrassed to say anything to Vic and I."
"And how did you actually get to know the two had an affair? I mean, you were just a kid," I ask.
"I caught them. Not once, not twice, not even thrice," she purses her lips and balls her fists in anger. "They both didn't realize that I would tell on them. I told my mum and one day, she followed dad who had lied that he had a business meeting after work, only to find him in a hotel room with Olivia."
I gasp. At this point, I don't want to interrupt her with the many questions flooding my mind. It seems like a really long story and in my mind I am wondering how she has managed to keep all that information to herself all these years.
She continues.
"After eight months of not seeing my mother, one very stormy night, she came back. She came for me and Vic, and that's not all... She came to finish all that had caused her pain. That night, I heard glasses breaking and Olivia screaming, my dad yelling at someone, so I woke up and rushed downstairs. There she was, in a long black coat and a sharp knife in her hand, her eyes focused on dad and Olivia who were on the floor, and then I saw blood. She had freaking stabbed Olivia, her own sister! Dad was calling out Olivia's name and cursing back at mom. My mother didn't move, she stood there breathing heavily in and out until my dad stood up and slapped her, she pushed him back and almost stabbed him too. The knife missed his heart by an inch. Vic came down stairs the moment when everything turned into a much more bloody situation. Mom... mom pulled out a revolver from the pocket of her coat and in a few seconds, all I heard was a blast and my dad screaming out mother's name. That was it. He lay there on the floor. Lifeless, not moving. The memory is still fresh, like it all happened yesterday. It was as if she had rose from the dead, seeking revenge on the man who had broke her, the man who had torn her apart and killed her love, that man... My dad...Vic began screaming and mother grabbed both of us hurriedly and we ran out into the rain," she stops to inhale and exhale.
Right now I don't even know what to say or comment. It's like she's been through hell and back, as I look at her I can see the rage in her eyes and the sorrow on her face.
"I'm so sorry, I had no idea. What happened next? Where did you go that night? Where is she now?" I ask desperately.
**(Roxy's Flashback)**
The moment dad fell on the floor next to Olivia, I knew nothing would be the same. My tears fell down uncontrollably and before I knew it, mother was pulling me outside the door as I sobbed loudly, tears blurring my vision.
"Come on loves, everything is going to be okay, I will take good care of you now. Your father and Olivia will be fine..." she said.
"But mom, you shot him... Why was Olivia lying on the floor and blood all over the floor? Why mother? Why?" I asked sobbing in between my words, rain pouring heavily on me.
She looked at me and knelt in front of Vic and I.
"Roxy, sometimes life will force you to do things that you won't even understand. I stabbed her... And I shot him, all because I love you and no one could take my love away from you. I love so much... Both of you. Do you hear me?" she said, her face with great concern and worry.
"Mom... Where are we going? It's raining and I am cold, what is happening?" little Vic asked.
"I don't know honey... I don't know, but we will figure things out okay?"
I knew my mother wasn't familiar with this area and deep down I also knew that she had no idea where we were going to go. The rain kept pouring, heavier every minute we walked down the streets. I have never felt so lonely, terrified and stranded in my entire life.
A few blocks away, we could hear sirens and that moment, was when everything fell completely apart. Mother sat with us in the middle of the road, on the very wet road. It was too dark to even see anything, she hugged us tightly and we waited. Waited for whoever or whatever was going to find us there.
She had given up and minutes later, right in front of my own eyes, for the very first time, I saw my mother breaking down, crying like a baby when the police arrived. They put handcuffs on her. Vic and I tried fighting off the police to get to her, but they put her in a different car. She gave us one last look, a look that still roams my mind every day.
"I love you Vic... I love you Roxy, promise mommy you will be good kids and take care of each other,"
I remember screaming at the top of my lungs as a policeman forcefully carried me over his shoulder and into another car where Vic sat crying out loud. I smacked the window with all my might as both vehicles drove away in opposite directions.
