Chapter 205
Art: The use of one's imagination to express ideas or feelings in paintings, drawings or sculptures.
There is nothing as beautiful as art that brings out emotions. Art that makes you question everything, even your very existence.
So far everything is going so well and people are flooding the gallery. Men and women of different calibres all dressed to impress. Their eyes are glued to the white walls which have different pieces of art hanged on them. John Pierre and his son are busy with the buyers as Roxy, Vic, Scott and I, have a little chat as we enjoy a bottle of the best champagne in the country. Tim is our Deejay for tonight and he's playing really good soft music. Our parents are also here and they are having a great time.
One word to describe the night: Pizzazz!
I am in a red off-shoulder dress with strappy heels and my hair is curled up to its best. Roxy is in a white skater dress and black heels. Vic is dressed casually but in a smart way. As for Scott... well, he's in a black two-piece suit and he's wearing a red tie that makes him look very handsome. I drove the two of us here and he's been quite eager to see the art gallery.
"I really love what you guys have got going on here," Scott compliments and Vic pats his shoulder.
"This is purely the brains and hard work of my sister and Kyrah. They surely deserve some time off after this because these ladies have been working day and night, for months, just for this single day to be a success," Vic says and he raises his glass to Roxy and I and we do the same.
"Thanks Vic. Now, I feel like it's time to reveal the grand piece of art. So... shall we?" Roxy gestures towards the large painting on the wall that's covered. The one that Sabrina worked on, none of the guests have seen it yet.
"I think the owner deserves it more," I say and I look around only to spot a quiet Sabrina standing next to a group of buyers who are busy drowning her with loads of questions.
I walk to her and grab her arm gently.
"Excuse me, allow me to borrow her for a few minutes. For any inquiries concerning the art, in terms of the price, that is, just walk over to those two gentlemen over there." I point towards John-Pierre and his son.
Once I pull Sabrina away, she heaves a sigh of relief.
"Whew! Thanks for saving me–" her words disappear the moment her eyes land on Scott. Her jaw drops and her hand flies to cover it.
"I don't have time to explain. Roxy needs you to unveil the real masterpiece. Go! Go, now," I say while pushing her towards Roxy who is standing right in front of the painting.
When I walk back towards Scott, he looks down at me and I spot a frown on his face.
"Are you okay?" I question as I look into his eyes.
"I'm not sure but I kind of felt some kind of bad energy and then it disappeared in seconds. I don't know if I am making any sense," he says and his eyes move to where Roxy and Sabrina are standing. "Who's that other lady?" he asks.
"Err... She's the owner of the painting, the great masterpiece we have here," I say.
"Do I know her? Something tells me I do," he says and he squints his eyes at her.
I squeeze his hand gently and he stops squinting.
"Yeah, you do. Her name is Sabrina but now she goes by her first name, Bethany. I'll tell you all about her. For now, let's just have a good time okay?" I grin at him and he smiles and nods.
"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, the moment we've all been waiting for... Miss Bethany Johnson here, is the artist behind this beautiful piece that you are going to see tonight. Bethany, kindly do the honors," Roxy asks Sabrina to uncover the piece and when she does, everyone is in awe. Gasps are all over the room.
"How much for this one?" a man shouts from one corner.
"I'm the one who's going to take that baby home. Tell me the price, I'll pay for it no matter the cost," says an old woman from the back and more people continue to argue over who is going to buy it. Roxy suggests a bid and the highest bidder manages to buy the piece at five hundred thousand dollars. That's quite a lot of money if you ask me.
People keep streaming in as they appreciate all the art in the room, more buyers buy their favorite pieces too. As I am standing next to Scott, my hand is holding on to his forearm. Sabrina passes us and she eyes Scott who in turn does the same and in a split second, Scott groans in pain, releases his crutch and presses his palms against his temples.
"Scott, what's wrong?" I ask, my voice panicky, as I grab his crutch, hand it to him and help him to the back room.
"You need to sit down for a bit. Can I get you anything? Some water maybe?" I ask and he nods and sits on the blue chair in the painting room. I rush to get a bottle of water and run back to Scott and I find him holding his head between his hands.
"What happened? You don't look so good. I can take you home if you want. The event is almost over," I say and he shakes his head as I hand him the plastic bottle of water and he glugs half of it down in seconds. I keenly observe how his Adam's apple goes up and down as he drinks the water.
"No need to. I feel better now. I just... I don't know what happened when I looked at her. I felt like something hit my head very hard and I got a sudden headache and a sharp ring in my ears," Scott says and I place my arm around his shoulders.
"A headache?" I ask. That's odd. "Wait, I'm not a doctor but I think it's your memories trying to come back. I think seeing her made you triggered in a way. Are you feeling dizzy? Anything at all?" I ask him.
"Just a little dizzy," he says and I pull him closer.
"Lay your head on my shoulder. You'll feel better. If you don't, just tell me and I'll take you to the hospital," I tell him as his head gently lands on my shoulder. He sighs heavily. His scent... is so refreshing.
"Kyrah?" he coos.
"Yeah?" I respond.
"If I get better, I promise you I'll be the happiest man on earth. I owe you and the rest a lot. I know it's only been like a week since I came back but, trust me, I feel like there's hope for me already," he says and lifts his head to look at me. "Most of all... I feel like you make me better. I've been so calm these past few days and I really appreciate your help, Kyrah. Even spending a few minutes with me everyday makes me feel so much better."
My heart does a back flip and suddenly an entire zoo has taken over my tummy. I feel a tingly feeling all over my skin, like insects are crawling on me. Then I find myself smiling at him.
"You don't even know how much those words mean to me right now. You'll get better, I do believe so," I say as tears threaten to fall but I blink them away. I can't cry right now. I have to be strong. Strong for him. Strong for my Scott.
