Chapter 68
The final exams of the semester lasted a week and they were a bit fair. Considering the fact that I didn't study thoroughly. Although my friends really helped me when we were studying.
I'm in my hostel packing up, ready for my holiday when my phone rings. It's Jim. I stare at the phone for a few seconds as it rings in my hand.
"What does he want?" I ask myself.
"Who is it?" Maeve asks, folding her bedsheets neatly and placing them on the bed.
"Jim." I press the receive button and press the phone to my ear.
"Hey, Jim?" I say.
"Hey, have you already left yet? I kind of want to talk to you. There's something you should know and it's important," he sounds shy and nervous as usual.
I frown. What could that be that's so urgent?
"Okay, where can I find you?" I ask as I turn to face Maeve.
"Cafeteria. Is Maeve with you? Please tell her to come too," he sighs, "This is insane." I think that wasn't meant for me, he's probably talking to himself.
"We're on our way, now," I say and hang up, turning to face Maeve who throws a book at me and I catch it.
"Thanks for that book by the way, it really helped me." She smiles. "What did Jim want?"
"First of all, you're the ones that helped me study, so thank you too. Jim wants to meet us, at the cafeteria, he hasn't said why, but it's urgent," I respond.
"Maybe he wants to say goodbye, he's leaving, remember?" Maeve reminds me.
I nod and sigh. I still feel guilty for calling him the mole without any proof. Jim has been nothing but good to me all these years.
The door opens and Roxy walks in.
"Look who's here! The rude girl in a black outfit. It's like you never left. I've missed your rude ass," Maeve jumps and hugs Roxy.
"That's right, back like I never went nowhere!" Roxy says taking off her dark sunglasses.
"Hey babe," I say and hug her.
"Hey. Jim called me, I figured he might have called you too," she says.
"Yeah, we're headed to the cafeteria," I inform her and she signals for us to leave the room.
We all walk out of the room and I lock it.
"How'd you get past the gate?" Maeve asks and I chuckle. Roxy shakes her head as she rolls her eyes.
"And I thought you were the smart one here." She face-palms herself. I chuckle.
"Having a fee balance doesn't mean her student ID is expired, you know," I tell Maeve.
"Oh," she says, leaving her lips curving an 'O'.
For the rest of the walk to the cafeteria we remain silent. From afar I can spot Tyler, Scott, Jim and...
"Who's that?" Roxy asks a frown forming on her face.
"Am I seeing double? I left my glasses," Maeve squints.
My jaw dropped seconds ago. Right now I am walking straight to the table and when I finally stop Scott speaks.
"I know right? I was shocked too," he takes a sip of his coke. "Unbelievable."
"Care to explain?" I ask Jim, pointing to the guy sitting next him. It's like his reflection in the mirror. The other guy looks exactly like Jim!
"Guys, this is my twin brother, Timothy. Just call him Tim," Jim says.
I gasp loudly and everyone turns to face me. I take a seat next to Tyler and Roxy and Maeve do the same.
"No wonder I thought I was probably going insane. I've met him a couple of times, I just thought Blake was confusing Jim's name. It was Tim all along! My goodness!" I mutter.
Maeve gasps and hides her mouth with her hand.
"He's friends with Blake, well kind of... and I figured he might have something to do with Sabrina knowing your whereabouts, Kyrah. I told you, I'm not the mole," Jim calmly speaks and I stare at him blankly.
Tim looks very calm and unbothered by our conversation.
I slam my palm on the table and look at Tim dead in the eye. My rage is rising rapidly.
"Was it you? Are you the one who's dealing with Sabrina? Hm? Tell us. Tell everyone that you're behind all of this. I've seen you at Blake's parties a couple of times and just the other day we spotted you outside Rosewood restaurant. Is she paying you?" Tim sits there quietly. Like he's dumb.
"Come on, man, we don't have all day. Speak up!" Tyler tells Tim.
"I'm not the one–" he says and Roxy cuts him off.
"Oh come on! Cut the bullshit. Kyrah has been seeing you," Roxy says and crosses her arms in front of her.
"I always wondered how Jim had mood swings, like, one minute he's very quiet and in a few hours when we bump into each other, he's all bubbly. And in different clothes! I really thought I was going crazy!" I say.
"Well, if you claim that you're not the one, who is?" Scott asks, squinting at Tim.
My throat feels dry and tight and I unknowingly take a sip of Scott's coke, he smiles, a sweet smile that vanishes as fast as it came.
"What?" I ask him.
"Nothing," he says.
"If Jim is going away, then I assume Tim is going too, right?" Maeve asks and both Tim and Jim nod at the same time. The only difference between these two is their outfits and haircuts.
"Well then we'll get to know who the real mole is, if they leave and nothing happens, we'll know it's one of them. If something happens when they're gone then... that'll just be a bummer," Roxy says.
"Alright then, I guess I can leave," Tim says standing up but Jim pulls him back to his seat.
"Oh no, we're not done yet. You're friends with Sabrina, right?" Jim asks his twin brother.
"Well... Not really friends, we just talk 'cause her and Blake know each other, nothing more," Tim sighs.
"Wait... What do you know about Blake and Sabrina? Like... Is there anything going on between them?" I ask, biting my lower lip till it hurts.
"All I know is that their families are good friends, nothing else. I'm being honest," he says leaning on the table. When I look around at everyone, they're all looking at Tim. Scott sips his coke.
"Okay then. We're done here," I say and Tyler stands up.
"Well, enjoy your holiday. See y'all when we bump into each other." He smiles and walks away after we wave.
"I've gotta finish packing, I'll be in the room," Maeve says and stands up "Goodbye Jim... And Tim, it was nice meeting you." And she walks away.
"So, I guess we'll get going. We're catching our flight tonight. See you all next semester, maybe," Jim says, leaving his seat.
"Wait," I say and he pauses, Tim walks away very fast. I hurry to where Jim is standing and I pull him into a long and tight hug.
"I'm so sorry I–" he cuts me off.
"It's okay, we're good. Just be careful. It could be anyone. Take care of yourself, Kyrah," he says and he hugs me back.
"Goodbye," I whisper into his ear and he lets me go and walks away hurriedly to catch up with Tim.
