Chapter 135
(*At the Masquerade Ball...*)
Kyrah's POV
Roxy has been complaining about her shoes. She doesn't like wearing high heels but for tonight, she'll have to try and survive. I'm used to heels so I've been laughing at her for the past few minutes. She's been dancing with Scott and now she's exhausted and I have no idea how. She walks back to where I've been seated watching them, as she complains.
"Gosh! My feet are killing me. I doubt I can stand up for long. And the dancing, oh, I'm just tired."
"They've been playing slow music ever since we got here, how are you even tired?" I ask and she pants.
"I just..." she pauses for air, "I need something to quench my thirst. Scott, please, it was amazing dancing with you but I need to rest," she says.
"You're just being dramatic," Scott tells her and chuckles, folding his arms in front of him, making his muscles flex in the right places.
"Yeah," I agree.
"Okay, it's your turn now," she pats my back and winks at me, then she begins walking away. "I'm so thirsty, I could drink an entire lake of water!"
I chuckle and stand up from my seat when Scott stretches his hand out for me to hold.
"May I have this dance?" he asks and I nod, carefully placing my palm into his and we walk to the middle of the large dance floor. With one hand secured gently at the small of my back and the other holding mine, he leads us, step by step as we dance to the soft sound of violins and saxophones. His blue eyes twinkle in a way that makes me want to stare at him all night.
After dancing for a few minutes, I turn to look around us. People look happy and that makes me even happier and a smile forms on my face. The room is comfortably warm and smells of candle wax, and expensive perfume. I just love it!
"Penny for your thoughts?" Scott asks, while smiling down at me. His half mask makes him look so mysterious and hot as hell–
Chill! You have a boyfriend, silly!
"Err... I'm just happy. Everyone around us is happy and it just makes me feel so alive. I'm glad we decided to come here tonight," I say, swaying from side to side.
"Your happiness is my happiness. Glad you're having a good time and I am too... I don't know how many times I'm going to tell you this tonight but, who cares..." he pauses, releases my hand but his other hand remains on my waist, he then cups my cheek and lowers his figure towards me, his face really close to mine. "There are so many women here tonight but you're the most beautiful one. You look dashing! Gorgeous! Amazing. You always are amazing, Kyrah and beautiful. Don't you ever forget that," he coos. His warm minty breath brushes over my face, making something stir in my lower abdomen.
His eyes have arrested mine and I can't stop looking into his cool blue ones.
"Thank you, Scott. You're really sweet," I say and my arm stretches to cup his cheek, "You're amazing too, the most selfless person I've ever met and I'll never, ever take you for granted, ever again. I'm so lucky to have you as a friend," I say.
"And I'm so lucky to have you as a friend too," he sighs and continues "Kyrah, there are so many things we could talk about, but, let's enjoy the night," he says and we continue dancing slowly to the music. People in pairs are dancing all over this large room and I'm loving what I'm seeing. Colors! All kinds of colors are represented here, everyone's outfit looks unique and expensive!
As Scott and I dance, I begin wishing I could have this moment for life. I feel like I am Cinderella and my prince charming is– wait, I haven't talked to Blake. I left my phone in my purse in the limo. I frown.
"You okay?" Scott asks and I know I can't lie to him even though he doesn't like it when I talk about Blake.
"You don't wanna know." I wrinkle my face.
"Please?" he begs and I shrug.
"I left my phone in the limo, maybe Blake called or something, I don't know. I didn't tell him about this event," I say as we move from side to side.
Scott rolls his eyes and sighs.
"I thought tonight you wouldn't talk about him. Yeah, you said he's got family issues, but he's a grown ass man. He's good wherever he is. Call him in the morning, it's almost midnight anyway," he says and looks away.
"Are you je–" my question is cut off by Roxy.
"Guys! Guys! We've been looking all over for you. You should taste the mimosa, it's fantastic! Tell them Wren," she says while lifting a glass of mimosa.
"It's actually really, really good," Wren says as she takes a sip of her drink.
"Where have you guys been?" Scott asks Wren and Vic and the two look at each other and share a light kiss.
"Having a little fun by ourselves," Vic responds.
"I'm gonna get another mimosa," Roxy says and I begin worrying. She's just drinking different stuff without pausing to think of the consequences.
"I'm coming with you," I say and just when I begin walking away, Maeve and Johnny appear. "Oh, there you are! We were going to get some mimosas. Wanna join us? Roxy says it's great."
"Sure. I'm a little bit thirsty," Maeve says and fans her face with one hand.
"Are you guys having a good time so far?" Scott asks them as we walk towards the table where countless glasses have been placed full of mimosa.
"We are having the best night ever! Right babe?" she turns to look at Johnny who nods. "Guess who we bumped into?"
I blink rapidly.
"Who?" I ask and Johnny answers.
"Dwayne Johnson and... Maeve met Lilly Singh and her dog, Scarbro, in the ladies room."
Maeve squeaks out of excitement.
"No way!" I gasp, "Lilly Singh? I love her YouTube videos!"
"Yap! We took a selfie and oh my God! Scarbro is so cute!" Maeve says.
"Guess you're lucky," Vic says and shrugs. "We haven't met any celebrity we love, yet."
"Ah! Don't worry, as long as you have a good time, nothing else should bother you," Johnny says and Maeve agrees as we reach the large table where we find Roxy picking a glass of mimosa.
"These better not have your saliva in them," Scott says and frowns at Roxy and Wren turns to face him.
"What?" Wren asks, confusion clear on her face.
"Oh, he's just joking. Come on, drink up," Roxy hands every one a glass.
"Guys, wait!" I pause, "We have to take pictures."
"Yeah." Vic fishes his phone out of his pocket and as we all gather close, Scott's body is too close to mine that I can feel his warmth. Vic lifts his phone up and says, "Okay, guys smile for the camera," and we all do that as he takes a couple of pictures of us. He then takes a picture of Wren.
"Hey, let me help you with that." I offer him my help by taking his phone and taking pictures of him and Wren together. When they kiss I quickly capture that beautiful moment and I wish Blake was here with me.
