Chapter 221

"I followed her and that guy... I saw them spending an entire day... like a couple. The jealousy was eating me up and I made a very horrible decision... Dana," I sigh and when I look at Dana, she's beginning to look blurry.
"What happened, Blake? It's good to let some things out of your chest. Talk to me," she begs.
"Dana, I... I killed someone," I say and the look on her face tells me that she's already in shock.
"Who did you kill? How?" she asks.
"Well, after stalking them for an entire day, the two were... driving back home and then... I was following them. Bumper to bumper. I thought if I couldn't have her, no one else would, so I... knocked their truck off the road and it went flying down the steep sides of the ocean road. I found out later... that the guy died. She survived. She survived and I don't even know if I am happy about it or not," I say and grab the bottle and drink from it the last of its contents.
"Oh, I am so sorry. Do you two see each other? Has she talked to you? What was her name?" she asks.
"Kyrah is her name. The guys fucking name was Scott Stone. I hated him with every bone in my body. Kyrah happened to be passing by my neighborhood and I saw her. Trust me when I tell you I am the one who looks more damaged than her. She moved on, without me and I regret every action I did. I nearly killed her. I'll never forgive myself for that," I find myself wiping tears bitterly off my eyes before they drop to my cheeks.
Dana pulls me in for a hug. It's funny how strangers can be good listeners at times.
"Hey. We all do bad stuff every now and then, but you must not get stuck in the same loop in life, okay? It's good you've gotten it off your chest. Your secret is safe with me," she says and I smile. Then I remember what Carla told me before I left.
"I appreciate it," I say. "Dana. Do you wanna... go home with me?" I ask and she chuckles.
"Uhm... It's already past midnight and I have an early business meeting. Unfortunately I won't go home with you tonight," she says and I feel like a teenager who just got rejected by his crush.
"It's okay. Here's my card. Maybe if you want to... do business with the Dawson's, you can call me," I say, hand it to her and lean onto the counter. I feel dizzy as fuck! I think I'm going to hurl my guts out any moment.
"Want me to get you an Uber? You don't look so good right now. Your eyes look watery and you're shaking," she says.
"Bill will take me home," I say and she leaps from the bar stool.
"It was a pleasure meeting you. I hope you have a great night," she says and plants a small kiss on my cheek and puts my card in her purse.
"Goodbye," she says and disappears in between the crowd of people in the bar.
The last thing I recall, is telling Bill to take me home after giving him my car keys.

Kye's POV
"And our mission is complete. Atleast we now know he has no idea that you're still alive," I tell Scott. We're in a private room upstairs, together with detective Harold, where we placed monitors to watch how everything with Blake and Melissa goes. We heard and recorded every single thing he said. Thanks to Wren's step-sister, we've got everything we needed.
"Now we have both an audio and a video to present to the judge in court. The guy will surely go down, and this time for good," Scott says through gritted teeth.
"He won't even see it coming. Won't even know what hit him. Melissa is quite good at this," I say and Scott agrees. A few minutes later, there's a knock on the door. The manager walks in, followed by Melissa.
"I guess you're done?" he asks while rubbing his huge pot belly. "No one else knows about this. Not even Bill," he says.
"Here's your money, we'll take down the cameras once our suspect leaves," Scott says and hands him a couple of dollars. The guy walks away without a word and I lock the door.
"How was I? Did you record everything?" Melissa asks with a wide grin on her face.
"Yeah we did, and you were amazing! You did great. Dana Barnes is such a catchy name. Thank you so much. Here's a little something for you," I hand her cash in an envelope. "I might consider connecting you with some pals who are private investigators. You're really good at luring a fly into your little spider web," I say and she laughs.
"Really? Kyrah did a pretty good job with the make up. I look like her twin, don't you think?" she asks with a grin plastered on her face.
"Yeah, and I would have fell right into your trap too if I was in Blake's shoes, whether drunk or not," says detective Harold.
"I've done alot of theatre arts, that's why," she says. "Now that you have my number, Kye, call me when your friends need such kind of a job done for them."
"Great. Now that that son of a bitch has gone home, it's safe for us to pack up and leave. We'll drop you off at your place. Harold will help you take off the little microphone on you," Scott says.
"Okay, I'll appreciate that," she says and pulls a chair and she sits down.
"Just a few more days and the bastard will get a surprise right at his doorstep," I say.
