Chapter 101

Roxy's POV
Mrs. Bailey is quite good with her words, after our little chat, both Vic and I felt relaxed. She's just like a mother to me now. She's so sweet and she understood our situation and I thank God she was of help. I spent the whole of yesterday doing nothing, just sitting in Kyrah's room. I didn't want to watch television since all that I could see in front of me was a massive letter "S". I can still see it right now as I'm preparing myself to leave. It's now 6PM.
I'd just ended a video call with Kye, told him everything that's happening and that I'd be busy solving a mystery on my birthday. Like who does that?
"Interesting. But promise me you'll stay safe," he said.
Kyrah walks into the bedroom and finds me staring at myself in the mirror. Atleast this time round I'm not in a shiny, fancy dress. I hate dresses. So I chose some black skinny jeans, a black t-shirt and a black leather jacket and ofcourse black converse.
"Birthday girl, how are you feeling?" she places both her hands on my shoulders.
"I feel... So... Weird and bored. It's my birthday and whatever I get to do tonight doesn't make any sense at all." I didn't want to celebrate my birthday during the day, I didn't even want to do anything although Kyrah's mom baked me a very tastey and lovely chocolate cake and I loved it.
"If things go well tonight, I am definitely going to throw a party tomorrow night. I just hope we don't end up getting another letter from 'S' leading us to another place and then another and then another, urgh! This is devastating!" I stomp my foot on the floor.
Kyrah smiles.
"Look at me." I do so. "Remember how drunk we got last year on your birthday? I am ready to get that drunk again, so go out there, figure out what's going on, come back home and you'll find us waiting for you. I'll make sure mom prepares really good food by the time you get home."
Home... This is my home now. She's now my family. Tears burn the back of my eyeballs and I try not to get emotional at the moment, so I look away. Kyrah takes something from her pocket and hands it to me. It's a tiny blue gift box, when I open it, my eyes spot a beautiful necklace and I lift it to take a closer look. The necklace is a butterfly with gemstones on each wing that hangs on a golden chain. She always gets me something for my birthday every single year, last year she got me a black, leather jacket that I'm wearing right now. I pull her into a hug and thank her.
"Thank you so much. You didn't have to–" she cuts me off.
"You know I always get you something on your birthday," she says and dips her hand into her pocket and takes something else out. My eyes sparkle when I see it.
"No way! No freaking way! Is that a rolex?" I gasp when she places it in my hands. The straps are black and in the middle of the watch, at the back lies my name. I scream in excitement!
"Oh my–" I do a random dance. "I own a rolex? I can't believe it, I have a rolex... Well this is some turn of events, I hope the rest of the night will turn out even better!" I sqeak.
"It's from Scott," she says with a grin on her face.
"Aw! How nice of him. I love what you guys got for me. Thank you," I say and hug her.

Kyrah's POV
She seems so happy with what we got her for her birthday and I am so glad she's smiling right now. She's been like one dull blob, lying in bed since yesterday. It's funny how both us could be in pretty bad moods but still manage to cheer each other up, because that's what friends are supposed to do. Be there for each other.
I love Roxy, she's like a sister to me, actually she is my sister, from another mother, if I could say it that way. I don't have any siblings but she, has taught me all the crazy little things that siblings do. I still recall when she stole that bicycle, brought it to me and told me it was now mine, and then the look on her face when my parents took it back, it was priceless! We were about eleven years if I can remember. "Please don't take it back, I got it for Kyrah. I really worked hard to get that bicycle, you know," she told my mom.
"Roxy, it doesn't matter if you didn't get caught, you stole it, so we're taking it back," mom said.
"And don't worry, we won't tell on you," dad said.
I laugh at those memories every single time.
Another reason she's my favorite is the fact that she's real. True to herself and everyone else around her. She doesn't beat around the bush, she will always call a spade, a spade, not a big spoon. She's always been crazy, when I met her for the first time, she had very long, silky, black hair but a couple of years later, the rebel in her took over and she dyed her hair blonde with baby pink flowing at the ends of her hair. Her aunt, Olivia, was in full shock, she almost fainted that day!
To some, Roxy is a bad influence, but to me, she's a jewel, she could seem rude sometimes but that's just how she is. I love how her soul's a mix of chaos and art and how she never tries to keep them apart. I treasure our friendship so much and that's why I still keep her around.
"You're smiling, why are you smiling? Is there something on my face?" she panics and turns to look at herself in the mirror and I chuckle.
"Your face looks fine," I tell her and she sighs heavily.
"I'm nervous," she says looking away.
"I understand how you feel right now, but all you can do is stay positive," I tell her and she nods. There's a knock on the door and when I turn, Vic is standing at the entrance of the open door.
"Am I interrupting anything?" he asks, stepping forward towards his sister.
"No, not at all." I give him a warm smile.
"Look what Kyrah and Scott got me," Roxy shrieks as she shows her brother the two gifts.
"No way! A rolex? This is so cool!" he says, his face beaming with joy slowly switches to worry.
"What's wrong?" Roxy and I ask in unison.
"I didn't get you anything," he tells her, shrugs and purses his lips.
Silence.
