Chapter 103
Roxy's POV
I am biting my lower lip pretty hard, tapping the seat in a quick rhythm, chest pounding so hard, I swear the driver can hear it. The situation we're in right now, has me feeling like I'm shitting bricks. No kidding. My stomach feels like my intestines have been tied into knots. When I turn to look at Vic, he seems uneasy. He's staring out the window and biting his fingernails. One thing that is common amongst us is that we don't know how to hide our nervousness. I'm no longer scared, but I'm dying to know where we're going. I'm tempted to ask the driver but since he has instructions, I am sure he won't say a word. It gets darker by the minute and as I check the time, I notice that we've been on the road for about forty minutes.
Moments later, the driver leaves the highway and takes a left turn into a dusty road.
"Are you sure you know where you're taking us?" I question.
"Yes ma'am," he says while nodding once.
Huh? Did he just refer to me as "ma'am"? No one's ever done that before. It sort of feels... great. I feel important right now.
"Alright," I say.
"How long till we get there?" Vic finally speaks after a long moment of being quiet.
"We're almost there," the driver replies and I sigh heavily.
This path is insanely dark, no streetlights at all. I can almost feel the inky darkness threatening to devour us.
Where are we headed?
A few minutes later, as the car's headlights are the only thing allowing us to see what's ahead of us, I notice that there are no buildings around. The driver then stops the vehicle and turns to look at us. We can barely see each other in the dark car.
"Well, this is it. Looks like my work here is done–" he says but Vic cuts him off.
"What do you mean your work is done? Aren't you gonna wait for us and take us back?" Vic asks with furrowed brows.
"Yeah. We're in the middle of nowhere. There's no trace of any cars around. How will we get back if you're not going to wait for us?" I ask.
"Worry not. I was instructed to bring you here and leave. Mr. Pierre said that someone else would take you back," he sighs. "He also said that you two should walk straight ahead, for about ten minutes and you'll have reached the final destination."
"Ten minutes? Why can't you just drive us there then?" I ask impatiently.
"Nope. I have instructions," he said and I roll my eyes.
"Fine," Vic says and opens the door on his side.
"Wait," the driver says and leans to stretch his hands on the dashboard. Opens it and takes out something. I can't even see clearly since it's so dark. "Here, this is your flashlight," he says.
"This is really bizarre." I grab the flashlight, switch it on and I step out of the car. Once Vic is by my side, we watch as the vehicle goes away, leaving behind a huge cloud of dust.
"And... we're stuck in the middle of nowhere. Stupid ass driver, he couldn't even drive us there!" I complain and Vic chuckles.
"What's funny?" I ask as I point the flashlight directly at his face.
"All of this. We're in the middle of nowhere, on your birthday, trying to solve a mystery. We sound more like Scooby-Doo and his gang."
I laugh at his statement.
"True. Now let's get going. We don't know if there's some creepy animal out here watching us, waiting to have us for dinner," I say and point the flashlight in front of us to illuminate the way.
The road is dusty and around us, separated by the road, is a large field. We walk for a couple of minutes and I notice some lights up ahead.
"Vic, do you see those lights? We're almost there, hurry," I say and we quicken our steps and just as we're about to arrive to the enormous black gate ahead of us, a group of people in black outfits appear. The have masks on and guns.
I swallow hard and I can feel Vic's body tense right beside me.
"Hands up!" one of them, a gigantic man, thunders and I raise my hands up, forgetting that I was holding the flashlight and it lands on the ground.
"Identify yourselves immediately!" he booms and I tremble.
Wait a minute... That voice. It sounds so familiar.
"Speak up!" he roars, pointing the gun closer to my face.
"Boogie? Is... Is that you?" I ask, stammering.
It's quite dark and I can't see a thing, I've dropped my flashlight and my hands are high up in the air. The man moves closer, picks up my flashlight and points it at Vic then at me and he smirks.
"Roxy! Where the hell have you been? It's been ages since we last saw you, girl," he chimes, takes off his mask and pulls me into a hug.
"Oh thank God! Err... Been a little busy, I guess. You almost had me pee on myself honestly," I say as I pull away from the hug relieved that he isn't a stranger.
"Guys! It's Roxy," he tells the others who relax a little bit. "I didn't know you were coming," Boogie says. Vic looks confused, his mouth is agape and his eyes are moving from me to Boogie. The Boogie man, that's what they call him around here. He's huge and his voice is like thunder itself.
"Roxy, what's going on? Who are these people and how do they know who you are?" Vic whispers beside me, his hands are still up above his head.
"Boogie and the rest, meet my brother, Victor Trent," I say patting him on the back. Out of nowhere a large beam of light hits us from a tower that I hadn't noticed was there earlier. Atleast I can see now. The gate opens up and I spot a tall figure walking towards me and I gasp.
"Bobby!" I run and throw myself into his arms. Vic is totally confused since he has no clue of what's going on. Apparently, we're at the other side of Wolf street. I've never used this gate before though. It sure feels good to see Bobby Chase again and now I remember what Mr. Pierre said "I'm sure you'll be glad when you find out where you're going". A wide grin forms on my face.
"Roxy, who are these people?" Vic pulls me aside. "Are you sure we can trust them?"
"Well... This is home Vic and these are my people and I trust them," I explain and he furrows his brows and his mouth goes wide open again.
"You didn't tell him, did you?" Bobby asks.
I've never told Vic about this place.
"Nope. I wasn't ready, but since we're here. You might as well tell him," I say and tuck my hair behind my ear.
"Vic... My name is Bobby... Bobby Chase," he says.
"How'd you know my name?" Vic asks.
"Your sister talks about you alot. In fact she never shuts up when she starts talking about you, sometimes it feels like she's a broken record. She'd repeat herself all over and over again
She's such an adorable girl," Bobby chuckles. I love his good-natured banter.
"Stop, I don't do that," I push him slightly and he raises an eyebrow at me and I roll my eyes.
"So, Vic, welcome to The Street of the Damned. Originally known as Wolf Street," Bobby says and nods at Vic.
"The street of the who and what now?" Vic asks while frowning.
We all burst out laughing at Vic. He shakes his head. He still looks terrified and he looks uncomfortable, he's no longer raising his hands.
