Chapter 160

Kyrah"s POV
As I am watching a movie by myself, Scott walks into the house. Since his dad has been around, and Roxy wasn"t away this time, I"ve been having company whenever Scott wasn"t available. He's been spending time with his dad and I didn't want to interrupt.
"Hey, good morning, Bailey." He walks to where I am seated and plants a kiss on my forehead. For a minute I am startled, but I play along. I turn to look at him standing beside my couch and he looks abit nervous, happy? I don't know, but I'll find out.
"Morning, Stone. Did you sleep well?" I ask, pausing the movie, curling my feet up on the couch as I hide some hair escaping from my messy bun, behind my ear.
"Yes," he blows out air and looks around, "Where"s Roxy?" he asks as he sits on the couch. I can"t help but inhale his scent when he passes right in front of me. For some reason, his scent calms me down, every single time. He smells so masculine in a very wonderful way.
"She and Vic went to meet up with their dad, I think they are moving in today. I tried to ask her if I could accompany them but... She said that I should... relax?" I shrug. Roxy has been wanting to surprise me but honestly, I really wanted to help her move in to the new house.
"Oh, now I see why Vic woke up so early, he had left by the time my dad and I woke up," he pauses and his blue eyes turn to the T.V, "What are you watching?"
"A movie... The Love Birds. Issa Rae is in it." I smile at him and he nods. He seems a little anxious, like he"s hiding something. Because he keeps checking his watch every now and then and fidgeting with his fingers. I sit there observing him, as he licks his lips and stares at the carpet. He"s quite a conservative guy and barely talks a lot about himself. Maybe one day I"ll just ask him about it.
"Scott?" I look at him keenly and for a second I think I spot a wave of pain in his eyes but when he speaks, it disappears as fast as it came. He turns his eyes away from me and I furrow my brows, moving to sit next to him on the other couch.
"Are you okay?" I ask as my arm goes around his broad shoulders. He turns to look at me. His eyes are beautiful and full of life. He sighs heavily, propping his elbows on his knees and he rakes his fingers through his hair and then sits back up. His eyes are shut for a second before he speaks.
"I"ll be okay. There"s so much I want to tell you but, I"ll save that for another time." He breathes loudly.
"Scott... please tell me," I murmur and his hand moves to my thigh. His skin feels so damn hot against my bare thigh. My heart begins racing and I have no idea where to. I"m wearing a pair of grey shorts today and a black t-shirt. When he doesn"t move his hand from there, I swallow hard and inhale deeply as I try to ignore the tingly feeling on my left thigh.
This is just normal, Kyrah. Just Breathe.
"It"s about my mom. And I don"t want to talk about her right now," he furrows his brow and stares at me for a moment, before rubbing his face with one hand. "My dad, just like every other time, got an emergency call, he"ll be leaving in the next..." he checks his watch. I notice that it"s a new one, "twenty minutes. I uhm... wanted you to say goodbye to him." He purses his lips. I agree and the grin that forms on his face is like one that a toddler has when they get a new toy.
"Alright, just, let me wear a pair of jeans, these shorts aren"t proper," I say and he chuckles, then he notices his hand on my thigh and slowly lifts it. My skin feels weird without his warm hand on it.
Put it back! Put your hand back, right where it was.
I nervously smile at him and I rush upstairs and wear a black pair of jeans and still keep the black t-shirt that I am wearing. When we walk outside, we find General Stone standing on his lawn with his bags. His black bomber jacket making him look larger than usual. He's tall and heavy muscled, just like his son is. He's like an older version of Scott.
"Kyrah, how are you?" he greets when he sees us coming his way.
"I"m fine, sir," I add in sir" just like Scott does and I see the General grinning and so does Scott, as he nudges my arm with his elbow. His white teeth nearly blinding me.
"How are your parents? I haven"t seen them in a very long time now," he says just as his phone rings.
"Oh, they went on a trip but they"ll be back soon, sir," I say and he chuckles, shaking his head then his eyes focus on Scott.
"Did you ask her to call me sir"?" he grins at Scott.
"No, but I"m sure she picked it up from me." Scott looks down at me and smiles again, strands of his hair covering his eyes.
He needs a haircut.
"Just call me Sylvester," he answers his phone and talks for a few minutes as Scott and I stand there awkwardly. I begin chewing on my tongue. "Son, a friend will pick me up, so I"ll just go to the airport by myself."
"Alright then." Scott nods at him and his dad pulls him into a hug. A manly hug. The kind that men usually pat each other's backs so severely.
"I"m sorry I won"t be there for your birthday," his dad says, scratching his forehead.
His birthday? Is it today? What kind of a friend am I, really? I don"t even know Scott"s birthday. Although he"s never mentioned it.
"Don"t worry, the most important thing is that you still came home and stayed for a while," Scott says and pats his dad's shoulder.
"Forgot to tell you, I got you that watch as a present, but I can get you another present–"
"No, it"s alright, dad. The watch is enough. Plus don"t worry about me, my friends will make sure I have a great time today," he says and seconds later, a white Jeep pulls up right in front of us.
"Good morning everyone." A guy with a thick mustache and bald head speaks from inside the car when he lowers his window.
"Good morning," we all respond.
"Kyrah, this is my sergeant, Malloy. Scott knows him already." I wave at Malloy and he nods at me. "My ride is here," the General says, "Take care of yourself... and son, please think about what we talked about," he says and Scott nods.
After Scott"s dad leaves I turn to Scott and squint my eyes at him.
"Really?" I cross my arms in front of me.
"What?" he raises a brow, acting naturally.
"It"s your birthday today and you didn"t even bother telling me? Why?"
"It just... never came up, I guess. Sorry, but now you know." He half smiles.
"You just made me feel like the worst best friend in the entire world. Do you have any idea how guilty I feel for not knowing your birthday? What are your plans today?" I start walking when he takes a step forward back to his house. "Scott, say something." I rush in front of him and stand my ground. His shoulders lower helplessly. His mood just suddenly changed and he blinks at me slowly.
