Chapter 193
(WARNING!!)
(Sexual assault has been mentioned in this chapter and it may be disturbing to some. But the story couldn't continue without this chapter. Sorry to anyone who might feel offended.)
Kyrah's POV
She looks slightly different.
Her hair is full of huge curls. Two years ago, she used to have her hair straightened. I can tell that she's wearing some light make up and she's not wearing her sinfully red signature lipstick. She only has lip gloss on. That's so unlike the Sabrina I know of.
Her eyes are scanning my reactions and I am trying so hard not to hit her. If she's not the one who knocked that truck off the road, then I have no idea who else would do such a barbaric thing. A plethora of emotions have already began taking over my senses and if someone doesn't stop me soon enough, someone's nose will be broken.
She's in a simple sleeveless white blouse, a pair of blue jeans and brown flats.
Huh! Not in heels today.
With my fists curved into tight balls, I swiftly move to the open door and push it so as to close it but she holds the door, stopping me from slamming it into her face.
She's just standing there while holding the door, her eyes begging me to listen.
I don't want to hear shit from this psycho.
Mom's footsteps can be heard as she's coming from the kitchen. I don't want her to notice anything weird, so we all act normal.
"Honey, it's rude to keep your visitor standing at the door. Why don't you invite her in? I'm heading out to Diane's place for our monthly book club meeting," she says while hanging her purse on her shoulder and she smiles at Sabrina, "Nice to meet you, Bethany," she says and walks away.
When she's out of sight, Roxy clears her throat and I realize that I have been staring at Sabrina, shooting invisible daggers at her.
"So, Bethany, huh? How may we help you?" Roxy asks, her voice is laced with pure sarcasm. She crosses her arms in front of her chest and leans against the door frame, scanning Sabrina from head to toe.
"I come here in peace–" she begins but Roxy cuts her off.
"Bullshit!" Roxy sneers while rolling her eyes.
Sabrina knows that with my word, Roxy can tear her down like a grizzly bear. Roxy, right now, is like a lioness. She's eyeing her prey closely, waiting for the perfect moment to pounce on it and devour it mercilessly. Sabrina turns to me and begs to be heard.
"The only one time you called me, I answered, and listened to what you had to say, so please, hear me out," she exhales heavily. "I beg you," she says as she turns to look at Roxy and Roxy begins cracking her fingers one by one, from her pinkies to the thumbs. Then I remember how much I have been through. I have been at peace lately simply because the devil's daughter hasn't been in town. I don't want trouble. I don't want to fight anymore. I don't want stupid drama all the time. I got tired of all of that, so I exhale slowly and stand in a relaxed way. I signal her to walk inside and she does.
Roxy glares at me and I tell her to calm down. I just hope I don't regret my decision.
Once I have closed the door, Roxy and I seat on the same couch that's facing where Sabrina is seated on the opposite couch. I can't even tell how this will end. It's unpredictable. She, is unpredictable.
We sit there in awkward silence until she decides to break the ice since she's the only one who knows why she's here and what she wants to say or do.
"Thank you for letting me in," she says and goes quiet for a few seconds then continues. "First of all, I am sure you're both aware that I haven't been in town. I just came back a few weeks ago and I have been thinking about coming to see you, Kyrah," she says and I frown. My fingers are rhythmically tapping my thighs.
"I have changed how I view life and how I do things and as of now, I am using my first name. Bethany. My second name, Sabrina, is associated with so much pain, damage, anger and brokenness. So much negativity. I am sure you're wondering why I am here and I will explain everything to you," she says and sighs. I had no idea her first name is Bethany.
"I'm glad that you're both doing well... I– I was the one who sent you those yellow flowers at the hospital," she says and my eyes go wide. For a moment my heart stops. Is it me? Or did the temperature just drop like it does in horror movies?
"I need some cold water for this," I say, "We all do." I stand up, head to the kitchen and grab three bottles of water from the fridge and place them on the table between Sabrina and us. I signal her to take the water if she wishes to.
"It's a long story, I don't even know where to start." She shakes her head and I lean forward and stare into her eyes. I can tell that she's scared of Roxy who is still glaring at her.
"Start from the beginning. The very beginning," I say, with my eyes squinted.
"Try anything funny and you won't live to see tomorrow," Roxy threatens.
"As I said, I'm a changed person," she says and tucks her hair behind her ears. I don't actually believe what she just said, but I lean back on the couch.
Roxy grabs one bottle of water from the table and begins to glug it down noisily.
"Alright then. I grew up in a loving family, one that was full of life and joy. We lived somewhere in the suburbs and when I finished high school, we moved here, in the city. My parents were rich, not like the Dawsons, but as soon as my father met with Mr. Dawson, he ended up having a hunger for more money. The very first day I met with the Dawsons, was when they invited us for dinner as their neighbors. My parents couldn't refuse and so we joined them. That's when I met Blake, Reyna and Max. During dinner, I found out that I was going to be joining the same campus as Blake. Ever since that day, we became friends. He would come over to my place and we'd watch movies and stuff, and I would also go to his place. Carla was there all along, but in the beginning I never knew she was Blake's real mother. The Dawsons, as known, are quite wealthy and my dad saw an opportunity to do business with them," she pauses and blows air out of her mouth.
"Go on," I say as I cross my legs, one on top of the other.
"We finally joined university and we were good friends, and started dating after a while. I loved him and so did he. All went well until one night, in my freshman year, the first semester. We were at frat a party that became a bit too rowdy. Everyone was having a time of their lives and as for me, I got drunk. Blake was more drunk than I was at that time. I wasn't used to alcohol and smoking weed and all the effects they had on me made me weak. I was more drunk than I had ever gotten and apparently, I'm a lightweight. A friend of Blake's offered us keys to his room and both us dragged ourselves to the room and landed carelessly on the bed. I couldn't see well, everything was blurry and my body felt heavy, my head was pounding and so I passed out. It was around 3am, I think," she pauses again and takes a bottle of water and drinks. Roxy and I glance at each other for a moment as we wait for her to continue.
"I was woken up by the sound of Blake's annoying ringtone. Then I realized that Blake's whole body was halfway on top of me and..." she stops herself as her words trail off. My eyes go wider than saucers.
"And what? What happened?" I ask as I lean forward.
"He... He was... He was naked and his genitals were so close to mine. I was halfway undressed. There was blood on the sheets," she says and a tear escapes her and I feel sorry for her. How could Blake do such a thing, especially when Sabrina had passed out. And did she just say they were in a relationship!? Well damn! This is insane!
"He took away my virginity when I had passed out. He basically just raped me," she says and sniffles and I grab some tissues and hand them to her. "I was sore and screamed when I tried to move. I pushed him off of me and he woke up. When I asked him about it, he said he didn't remember. I asked him if he had used protection but he said that he didn't carry any with him. It tore me apart. I was ashamed of myself and even when I got to my hostel, I couldn't think of anything else," she explains as her lower lip trembles.
