Chapter 41
*Scott's POV*
It's been two months now and my dad hasn't come back home since he was assigned a really major duty in Afghanistan. This is how hard it is to be the child of a military father. He hardly comes home, and when he does, he stays for a while and any minute I always know he'd get a call of duty and that he'd leave again. I had really waited for him to come home the last time he called, but plans changed. He couldn't come.
Another thing that's bothering the hell out of me is the fact that Kyrah, no longer wants anything to do with me, or anyone else. All her time is spent with Blake. It's like we're all invisible to her. I never liked Blake since the very first day I saw and I never will. He's made Kyrah a totally different person. She's now forgotten about all her friends and any time he calls her, she runs to him like he's her savior. I hate that. I really hate that!
That thought makes me squeeze my fists in anger. It's Friday afternoon and I am chilling at my house, in my room. Roxy and Vic have been staying here ever since their world started falling apart. Apparently, Kyrah has been ignoring them too and since Roxy and Vic spend more time here than at the campus, they barely get to see Kyrah at all since she barely comes home. A few minutes ago Roxy left to go for a walk and Vic is downstairs watching TV.
As I am busy typing away on my laptop. I hear the front door downstairs open and then what I didn't expect happens. I can hear people arguing.
"Who the hell are you?! What are you doing in my house young man?"
Shit! It's my dad. I never told him Vic has been staying with me.
If I don't move fast, my dad will probably arrest Vic, thinking he's an intruder. Dad knows I am mostly in my apartment near the campus but for the past two months, I haven't been staying there that much. Especially on weekends.
I rush downstairs, and I find my dad pointing a gun at Vic and right at that moment, Roxy walks in and she freezes instantly.
Her eyes go wide open and her jaw drops.
"What the?" she gasps. Vic has his hands up in the air, he looks petrified and confused.
"Dad, calm down, they're with me. He's Vic, and that's his sister, Roxy. Please put the gun down," I say calmly and I notice Vic swallow hard, with his hands up in the air.
Dad looks at Roxy and then his eyes move back to Vic then to me. Then he withdraws his gun from Vic's face.
"Sorry about that," he apologizes and he greets Vic and Roxy respectfully.
"I wasn't expecting you," I speak as I walk nearer to him.
"I wasn't expecting you here either, I thought this young man had broken in," dad says with a sorry smile on his face.
"We're sorry, sir-" Vic begins to utter.
"It's alright, any friend of my boy is welcome here. Now. I need to take a shower. It's been insane out there for the last two months," he says, placing a huge duffel bag on the couch.
"Welcome back home, sir," I say.
"Thank you, son."
He walks upstairs to his room. I'll take his bags to his room later.
"Y'all, I was about to die when I saw that gun on Vic," Roxy starts and I chuckle when I notice how her palm is on her chest and her eyes are closed.
"I almost pissed on myself. I thought maybe I had been caught. Like this is the end of my freedom. Shit man, I'm never doing drugs again," he whispers and sits on the couch.
Minutes of silence pass until Vic speaks.
"Any signs of Kyrah?" he asks and I nod.
"Well, I do see her in school, but she's always clinging onto that guy. I hate it-" then Roxy cuts me off.
"You like her don't you?" then she smirks.
"Well I-" I begin.
"Don't even bother explaining anything. I know you do," she grins at me.
I roll my eyes at her, but the truth is that Kyrah makes me feel like a different man. I am starting to doubt if I only like her or if it is more than that? Only God knows.
"Scoot over," Roxy tells her brother and they sit together watching a Spanish movie I have never heard of. All I can hear and see is a man on his knees, crying like a child, begging a young lady as he declares his love for her.
"Estoy aquí mi amor y quiero estar contigo para siempre. Lamento mucho el dolor que te he causado. Por favor perdoname" the man coos and I chuckle.
Spanish has always been my favorite language but watching Spanish movies is just not my thing. Those men cry too much. Well, atleast I think so. I don't know, I guess it's because I've never cried like that since I grew up.
"Enjoy your sad little movie," I whisper. She grabs my hand and forces me to sit on the other couch.
"Sit down....It's a really good one, I've watched it twice although I don't even understand a word, but I always feel sad," Roxy says and I laugh.
"He just said 'I am here my love and I want to be with you forever. I am so sorry for the pain I've caused you. Please, forgive me'." I chuckle and her mouth forms an O then her phone rings and Vic turns down the volume.
