Chapter 11

Roxy's Present (POV)
"That was the last time I saw her. She's now in prison. Olivia was taken to hospital and took us in after she found out that our lives at a foster home was horrible. I almost starved myself to death, the food there was pathetic and they didn't treat us well,"
Kyrah looks terrified, yet that's not the entire story. Although it feels good to let it all out. I have never told anyone about my story, no one at all.
"Do you visit your mum?" Kyrah asks, wiping off a tear from her cheek.
"Yes, but she never wants to see me these days, I don't know why," I fight back tears that are threatening to fall.
"Since when?" she asks. I better get used to the many questions Kyrah has because I know she has alot of them to throw at me.
"Three years ago..."
"What? Why? You mean the last time you saw her was three years ago?"
"Yes," I sigh "When I used to go there, it got to a point where I waited for her to come to the visiting area but she never came until visiting hours came to an end. That's why I freaked out when she called me today," I explain.
My mother is a good woman, that I know, but shutting me out of her life has made me anxious every single day of my life without her. I love her. Damn it! I love her so much, and I understand what she did and why she did it.
Kyrah turns to me and I can tell that she has another burning question to ask.
"Shoot," I say and she licks her lips before asking, as if weighing which question to ask first.
"What did she tell you when she called? Is she okay?" she asks.
"I think so," I shrug, "But unfortunately, before I could catch what she wanted to tell me, the line went off, the cops there only give them two minutes on the phone and hang up their calls when time is up. She said she has something to tell me,"
"Well then go! Go see her. I can even go with you, that's if you don't mind," she has that puppyface look right now and she begs me and I oblige.
"Okay, fine, I'll take you there," I say and she smiles broadly and pulls me into a warm hug.
"One last question for tonight... What's your mother like?" Kyrah questions.
"Well, she is the prettiest, most kind hearted woman I've ever known. She is selfless and is always ready to help at all times. She loves Vanilla icecream with extra chocolate chip toppings, and always complained about too much ketchup on her fries," a small sad smile forms on my face.
I can feel a lump forming on my throat and I swallow hard. I don't even know the last time she had Vanilla icecream, I can't even tell if she's still the same woman I knew years ago because I hear prison changes people. Hopefully, I want her to be the same person I knew growing up.
"Hello, Roxy... Snap out of it. I'm right here," Kyrah calls me back to reality and I sniffle, scratching the back of my neck.
"When is the food getting here anyway? I am famished," I try changing the conversation instantly.
"Oh, pizza will be here in about ten minutes from now," she says.
For those ten minutes we sit there in awkward silence. Kyrah on her phone and my eyes focused back on the wall again.
Someone knocks the door and Kyrah opens the door, pays for the pizza and closes the door. We begin munching on the pepperoni pizza and Maeve marches in with her tall, dummy, stick figure boyfriend.
Are they even dating?
The memory of him all over Maeve flashes in my mind and I get the urge to vomit on both of them.
"Couldn't you have knocked first before barging in like this is some crack house and both of you are cops?" I ask.
"Oops uhm, sorry Roxy," she giggles and I swear I can see the guy looking down at her cleavage.
Perve!
I roll my eyes and stand to go get Kyrah's sheets from Maeve's boyfriend, or whatever he is to her.
Don't know, don't care.
He looks at me and adjusts his posture, such that he looks like a living flag pole. Like seriously, this guy is extremely tall and thin. How in the world does Maeve manage to hug him?
"I've got my eyes on you. Don't do anything stupid to hurt Maeve," I say, rudely grabbing the sheets and blanket from him. He smiles and they both leave.
"They look good together don't they?" Kyah asks, trying to hold back a laugh and I cringe.
"Ew! Disgusting. Let's just not talk about those two right now, all we have to do is finish our pizza. Can we have a normal and easy night?" I complain.
"Alright, but promise me you'll go to see your mother," she says.
"Sure," I take a bite of the slice in my hand.
"Roxy!?" she tilts her head to the side giving me a this-is-no-joke kind of look.
"I know... I'll go see her, I promise, cross my heart, okay?"
"Hm! Seems like I-don't-care Roxy is back," she teases.
I swat at her arm and she whines.
"Ouch! That hurt."
All I do is put on a fake smile and shove the last piece of pizza into my mouth.
