Chapter 51

"He did what!? With who!?" Roxy shouts. Clearly, disbelief is displayed on her face. She slams her palms on the kitchen island and stares outside the window, pausing, as if to think.
"Keep your voice down, I don't want mom knowing about this," I explain to her.
Roxy seems pissed off because of what I told her about last night. About Blake.
"Why didn't you wake me up? I could have gone with you. Maybe I could've taught him a lesson for messing with you. I– I'm so sorry babe," she says and pulls me into a hug.
"Sorry for what?" mom asks with a raised eyebrow as she enters the kitchen, tying her apron behind her and Roxy shrugs, grabbing an apple and taking one huge bite.
"Look at your daughter closely," Roxy says as she chews her apple.
"Jesus! Kyrah, you look like crap. Haven't you slept at all? You look... Depressed, are okay, honey?" mom shrieks.
I shrug.
"I'm fine. I watched movies all night," I lie.
"I told you, sleep is very important. You should get your beauty sleep. I don't want my daughter going outside looking like a zombie from The Walking Dead, having zits and eye bags. Try and get some sleep tonight, will you?"
"Mom. I'm fine. Maybe a good cup of coffee will do the magic." I smile shyly and she heads over to the coffee maker.
"Don't you girls want any breakfast?" she asks and our response is negative. I know she doesn't like it when I skip breakfast. Today, I just don't feel like having breakfast. The image of last night's events makes me want to vomit. For a second I gag and my mum stares at me.
"Are you sure you're okay?" she asks and I nod, "Alright, ask the boys if they'll have breakfast."
Roxy texts her brother and it seems they made their own breakfast at Scott's house.
"Come on, Kyrah. Let's go see what the boys are up to." Roxy grabs my hand and I groan as I leave my stool and follow her.
"What about the coffee?" mom asks pointing at the coffee maker.
"Maybe later, mom." I wave at her.
Next door, Scott and Vic are playing video games. The funny thing is, Scott and I have classes in about two hours but everything seems so... Off!
"Hey Kyrah... Roxy," Vic greets us as they pause the game and I close the door behind me.
"Hey," we say in unison.
Scott turns to face us with those gunmetal blue eyes and I can spot worry in his expression. Roxy sits on the couch on the left and I sit next to her.
"Are you going?" I ask Scott.
"Where?" he cocks his head to one side, "Oh, I'm not attending any class today. I need some time off. You? Are you going?"
"No. I think I need time off too. Plus we'll just get the notes later," I respond and he nods.
"Finally! We get to hang out, but the two of you can't have a free day and stay indoors. We could go somewhere maybe..." Vic says.
"The beach!" Scott suggests and Roxy beams with excitement. He looks at Roxy and smirks.
"I know who to call to cheer you up, Roxy," and he mouths 'Kye Ripley'. Color fills Roxy's cheeks.
"Wait, so you guys are gonna be paired up and I'm gonna be the fifth wheel here? Why?" Vic whines and we all laugh at him. Then an idea hits me. Maeve is probably in class so I can't bring her along, plus she hates starting conversations with people she doesn't know too well. Yeah, she knows Vic but I'm pretty sure they'd have awkward conversations. Plus, she now has Johnny to spend time with.
"Well, I can't ask Maeve to skip class, so I'll figure out what to do. I'll meet you at the beach," I say.
"Okay," Roxy says.
"Vic, you can take my car, I'll get you the keys," I inform him and he nods.
"Roxy can ride with Kye and you with me," Scott announces without looking at me and I purse my lips as I head out back to my house accompanied by Roxy. We change in to beach-friendly clothes. I choose shorts and so does Roxy, but my shorts are shorter than hers. She just doesn't like showing that much skin. When we're done I grab my keys and right outside I throw them at Vic who catches them with ease.

After a few minutes of arriving at the hostels, Maeve isn't in the room and just when I'm shutting the door I bump into the one girl I figured would want to hang out with us. I inform her of our plans and she claims to have no classes today.
"Perfect! Let's go," she says and we drive off to the beach.
When we arrive, we find Kye, Roxy and Vic sitting on the sand. A few people can be seen further minding their own business. Vic looks already left out, since Kye and Roxy are seated too close to each other. Finally I'm going to meet this Kye, whom Roxy is always talking about.
"Guys, we're here," I announce and the three turn around to face us. Vic and Roxy look shocked. They're staring at my guest and I don't understand why.
"Wren Hudson?" they say in unison. Disbelief clear in their voices and that makes me a little confused.
"Wait, you guys know each other?" I ask Wren and she grins and nods.
"Apparently, yes we do. Well the time you told me about Roxy, I didn't know it was Trent, so I assumed it was another Roxy," Wren says cheerfully.
"Okay, okay, let me do some introduction here," Roxy clears her throat, "Kye, this is Kyrah."
He shakes my hand firmly and nods at me, "Nice to meet you," he says in a booming sound and I now understand why Roxy is always talking about him. As if on cue, Scott appears from somewhere behind me.
"Everyone, this is Wren. At some point when we were living in a foster home, we got to know each other and became friends," she sighs as if brushing off sad memories, "Wren, meet Scott and Kye," she points at the two men respectively, "I believe you've met Kyrah."
"Yeah, and uhm... Just so you know, I moved into your former room," Wren purses her lips.
I expect Roxy to react negatively but instead she smiles. Meaning that she and Wren had been good friends.
"Oh, that's really great. Take care of the room for me," Roxy says and hugs Wren.
That puzzles me. She has a certain attachment to that room that no one understands.
"Alrightie then. Guys, let's just play something short as a group and then... Well... We will walk away, two by two, just like the animals went into Noah's ark. If you get what I mean–" Vic laughs as he steals a glance at Wren.
"We get you loud and clear, bro," Roxy responds smiling up at Kye who smiles back at her.
"Wait, I have an idea," Kye turns to Scott, "Spit challenge."
Automatically Scott grins.
"What's that?" I ask as Scott drags me towards a wooden beach deck a few meters away, "What's a spit challenge?" I ask once we all stop at the edge of the wide deck.
"Yeah. Is it what I think it is?" Wren shoots an eyebrow up her forehead.
"Yes. One has to spit saliva into the water and the one who spits farthest wins," Kye says and I cringe. Scott notices and pats my back gently.
"We used to play it back then with Scott at the barracks, after PT," Kye says, eyeing at the water curiously.
"PT?" I whisper so that only Scott can hear.
"Physical Training," he sighs "I'll tell you more after this game is done."
Is there something I don't know about Scott?
Vic snaps his fingers right in front of my face to capture my attention.
"We men shall start and you ladies will follow," Vic says and I shrug.
