Chapter 48

They put on quite a show there. My thoughts are interrupted when one pats my shoulder.
"Sorry we scared you. Come by and we'll have some tea with my family."
Wait what?
"Uhm, okay. We'll go now," I utter in confusion as I rush to my car.
As Roxy gets into the car, she waves at them and I start the engine and drive off.
"Care to explain everything? Like, now!" I demand.
Roxy stares at me, "Well I guess we both have alot of explanation to do. I see your boyfriend got you a fancy car. Hot damn!" she touches the leather seats, amazed.
"Well, yes. We'll be riding together. Promise. Now tell me, who is this... Scar? How did you even get to know these people?" I pause as we hit the high way, "Did Vic know you were here all along?"
"First of all, I've never met Scar, but he's the leader. They tell me he knows me but I don't know how. Secondly, when I was a kid, one day I got lost in an alley and I bumped into Bobby Chase. He's always been like a guardian, always looking out for me. He's like my second dad. Lastly, Vic has no idea such a place exists. I've never told him."
"Why?" I ask as I take a right turn.
She shrugs.
"I don't know. But, I'll tell him all about it soon," she sighs and rests her head against the window of the car and I speed off.
At Scott's house, Vic dashes out of the house as soon as I pull up and pulls us both into a bear hug.
"Wasn't that supposed to be Roxy's hug alone?" I raise an eyebrow.
"You're like my sister and we haven't seen you in days, so..." he shrugs, hugs his sister tight and welcomes us back inside.
Scott's dad isn't around though his son is lying on the couch watching television with a frown on his face. I clear my throat and he jumps up and runs to me and pulls me into a hug. He then notices Roxy and a bright smile forms on his face as he hugs her too.
"I'm glad you're okay. Both of you," he coos, cupping my face, his thumbs caressing me in a circular motion that sends a tingly feeling down my spine.
"I'm glad to see you again. Is my mom in? I have alot to talk about and things need to be straightened out," I say.
His eyes are focused sharply on mine and he nods his head.
"That's alot of staring, Scott." Roxy breaks the icy staring game that Scott had began. He holds my hands and notices the bracelet he gave me and smiles.
"Alright, go talk to your mum, we'll be right here." I nod and head back to the door, before I hold on to the door knob, Scott speaks again.
"Oh, and Tyler and Jim miss you," he purses his lips.
"I've been bumping into Jim once in a while though," I shrug.
"Funny, he said you haven't talked in days," Scott says.
I shrug again and walk outside to go and face my mother. Heavily, I blow air out of my mouth as I get closer to our house. Deep down I am hoping that it will all go well and that she won't blow up like a grenade on me.
Fingers crossed.
Once I am inside, I can smell the sweet aroma of baked goodies. I wonder what she's baking. I find her in the kitchen icing a large cake, music playing so loud, Celine Dion's 'That's the way it is' making her move to the beat, careful not to mess the cake. I hold back a laugh, but I can feel my tense nerves relax, watching her dancing and singing along to the words of the famous singer.
"When you want it the most there's no easy way out, when you're ready to go and your heart's left in doubt don't give up on your faith, love comes to those who believe it, and that's the way it is-" she snaps her fingers as she sings and twirls around pausing when she spots me.
"How long have you been standing there?" she smiles and I chuckle.
"Long enough, mom. I see you're having fun on your own." I bite my lip waiting for her responce.
"Well... I couldn't sit here doing nothing, I'm done with my online work and I've delivered all the orders and I decided to bake," she sighs, "How are you honey?" she wipes her hands with a cloth and leans on the kitchen island.
I shove my hands into my jeans pockets and sigh.
"Fine, I think. Alot of attacks lately but I'm okay," I say as I show her my inhaler.
"Boyfriend?" she asks in a very low tone that I almost don't catch what she said. She's sipping some orange juice avoiding eye contact.
"Mom I-" I take in a deep breath, "I'm really sorry, but I... I have feelings for him, mom. I just..."
"Just be careful. I do not like that boy, not one bit. I can't force you to break up with him but don't take my words lightly. That boy looks like a lot of trouble. Anyway, as long as he doesn't come to my house, I have no problem with that," she clears her throat and opens her arms wide and I move to hug her.
"Now, help me finish decorating this cake. Scott told me you went to find Roxy, did you find her?" she questions and I nod.
"Yeah, she's okay. She's at Scott's right now," I say.
"Oh, thank God! I was worried," mom huffs.
"Me too."
"Your dad will be working late tonight, so he won't be coming home," mom says as she finishes her glass of juice.
"Okay."
And the rest of the day is spent baking and eating the cake, muffins and brownies. After dinner, as Vic and I are arguing about a movie we've watched, a text pops up on my phone. It's from Blake. When I open it, all I see are jumbled up words.
Is he drunk-texting?
I text him back *Are you okay?*
Then more jumbled up words pop up on my screen. I wait till my mom goes to sleep and I take the opportunity to leave. Scott and Vic have already left and Roxy is sleeping in my room. I tiptoe to my room and grab my coat from my closet and tiptoe back downstairs and out of nowhere the wooden stairs creak.
Shit! I mutter under my breath.
Seconds later after being sure that nobody heard the noise, I move swiftly out and I get into my car, which I had parked outside Scott's house, and head to Blake's house.
***
When I get closer, I can hear loud music and I can see a drunk couple at his front yard, dancing sluggishly.
I had no idea he was throwing a party. Why didn't he tell me?
I pull up right in front of his house and I check the time on my phone. It's exactly 11pm. Switching off the engine, I open the door and walk out of the car, closing the door behind me. I shove my hands into the pockets of my coat. It's freaking cold but the few girls I pass on my way in, are in extremely short attires. I walk around the house to the backyard where as usual, people are kissing, swimming, dancing and drinking. Others are playing beer pong. I can't spot Blake anywhere.
Impatiently, I walk back to the front door and I ring the door bell. Tapping one foot on the floor, I wait. Carla opens the door after a while. She looks surprised to see me.
"Carla, hey!" I chime.
"Hello, Kyrah. Blake didn't tell me you were coming. I was just in my room," she responds.
"Is Blake in? I kind of need to talk to him," I state.
"Well, I assume he's around since he has a whole party happening in the backyard. I couldn't sleep with all that noise, but since you know your way around, go ahead and find him." Her smile is bright and beautiful.
"Thanks, Carla."
She opens the door further and I walk in.
I move from one room to another, but I still can't find him. I use the elevator to his private suite. Biting my fingers, I wait for the doors to open.
When they do, I'm blasted with loud music and my eyebrows furrow.
I step out of the elevator, and what I see when I turn to my right, leaves me breathless. My jaw drops and my eyes threaten to leave their sockets.
Two girls in hot, see-through bikinis are lap dancinh on Blake in the jacuzzi. He looks completely wasted and... I sniff the air.
Is that weed?
