Chapter 168

Outside the house, as the police drag Reyna to one of their cars, she stops and spits at Max's feet.
"Mom! Carla!" Blakes runs to her and his eyes look teary the moment he sees Carla behind me.
"Carla are you okay?" he asks cupping her cheek.
"It's always Carla this, Carla that! Carla! Carla! Carla! What about me? Doesn't anybody care about me?" Reyna yells as an officer pulls her.
"Let her talk." Max stops the officer.
"I hate you. All of you. Look what you made me do, Max. You've made me a monster." She sobs and sniffles.
"For the record, you've always been one ever since I met you," Max says and she spits in his face.
"Fuck you!" she yells and she tries to escape the officer's tight grip.

Blake's POV
"Mom, please. Stay calm. We'll get you help as soon as po–" I start but mom cuts me off.
"Don't call me that!" she shouts and glares at me.
"Call you what? Mom? You're my mom what are you talking about?" I frown and move closer to her. I try to touch her arm but she backs away.
"I am not your mother and I have never been! Get away from me!" She grits her teeth. I'm confused.
"What are you... talking about, mom? Calm down, please. You're just angry–"
"Ask your bloody father who I am to you. I am not your mom, Blake. I am your fucking aunt!" She turns to the officer and signals him to take her away. "I am done living a lie. Why don't you explain everything to your son, Max." She walks away followed by cops behind her. I try to run to her but my dad stops me.
What is happening? I turn to face my dad and he hides his face with both hands. Something is brewing deep inside me and I don't know what it is.
"Is what she's saying the truth? Is she not my mother?" I ask angrily. My face feels hotter than usual and my fists have curved into balls.
When he doesn't answer, I grab his shirt and pull him over to me.
"Answer me! Is she my mother or not? Who is my mom?" I feel like I am breathing fire. My eye is twitching vigorously.
"She's not your mother, Blake." I hear Kyrah's soft voice and I turn to her, almost getting a whiplash, confusion washing all over me. I release my dad from my tight grip.
My whole life has been a fucking lie!
"How do you know that?" I scowl at her and she takes something from her pocket and places it in my hand.
"It's all in there," she says as I look at the flash drive with a four leaf clover on it. "Carla ensured that it got to me. She probably knew this day would come." She sighs and looks at her feet.
"What are you talking about?" I whine, as I turn to look at Carla who is standing next to dad sobbing quietly.
"Can somebody explain this to me?" I yell. People have already started leaving.
"Son, Carla is your real mother," dad whispers and I swear my heart stops.
"What?" I ask. My world begins spinning faster than usual. Everything is getting blurry, my feet are weak and my hands are trembling. I need to sit down so I choose to sit on the lawn.
"Reyna and Carla are step-sisters," Sabrina says and I turn and stare at her in disbelief.
"You knew about this too?" I ask angrily and bite my knuckles so hard.
"She told me a few days ago when she got drunk. I found her crying at the mall," Sabrina says.
"I guess I should leave," Kyrah says but I stand up and stop her. I touch her forearm but she slowly pulls away and that breaks my heart.
"No, wait! Please, don't leave. Stay with me," I beg as I try to stop the tears burning my eyes from dropping but one tear escapes me and she catches it with her thumb. Her face is blank. No emotion at all. Her walls are up, I can't fucking read her face. She's already shut me out of her life, it seems.
"I have nothing to do here. This is a moment for you and your family. I should go. I was only doing it for Carla, just so you know," she says quietly and after carefully looking at me as if trying to memorize my face, she turns around and leaves. So does Sabrina.
My eyes drop to Carla's.
"Say something," I whisper to her with my head lowered. I feel like someone just tried to tear my heart apart with their bare hands after watching Kyrah leave just like that. Like nothing happened. And now the pain worsens after finding out that my real mother was always there, right by my side. Every day. Every fucking day! She's always been there, at my swimming competitions, soccer games... everything. I thought Reyna was my mother!
Carla instead runs to me and hugs me tighter than she ever has and cries on my chest. Then I realize that the bond the two of us have always had, wasn't just a normal bond. It was a mother-son bond.
Should I call this a nightmare or a beautiful dream? Because there must be some ugly truth behind all of this and I must find out. Today!
"We need to talk, son," dad says and heads back inside the house with his head lowered in defeat. I walk back inside with Carla's hand in mine. Still confused and eager to know the whole truth.
