Chapter 27

We have our meals in silence, table manners ofcourse and after that, Blake pours in some wine for both of us.
"It tastes so good, doesn't it?" Blake cocks his head to the side.
"Of course, this is surely the finest wine in town. Courtesy of my family's company and this is quite a lovely place too, don't you think?" he says and I gasp.
"Wow! That's amazing," I say.
Some slow music comes on from around one corner and I can see a band coming towards us with violines.
I am deeply praying that they'll pass our table but instead they stop right at our table. Yay! a serenade, urgh.
"May I have this dance?" Blake stands up, and offers his hand to me, and I hold on to it like my entire life depends on it. Trying to ignore the number of people smiling at us.
Then it hits me.
This is just like in my dream. I've dreamt about such a thing with Blake for so many nights! It's a dream turned into reality.
Slowly we move to the middle of the gigantic dance floor, or so I assume it is, and we move step by step to the rhythm. My hand on one of his shoulders, and the other in his lifted hand as we twirl slowly. Other people join in and I tell myself 'this is a dream come true'. Then the most unexpected words slip out of my mouth unknowingly.
"I love you, Blake."
And the man of my dreams, leans in and kisses me softly. Touching him was like realizing all I have ever wanted was right there. Only him.

Roxy's POV
To be honest, since we left the hospital where Kyrah was taken by Blake, my mind has never been at peace.
So has my heart.
It's hard to focus when tragedy follows me like my own shadow.
My mom is unwell, Kyrah is now a walking target, and Vic-
"Vic!" I pause for a second, then continue to leave the communal shower. I came back an hour after watching a movie at Kyrah's and the chicken was finger licking good.
Truly, I am a bad sister, so much has been going on, especially with mom, and I didn't even remember to give my baby brother a call!
I face palm myself and sit on my bed. Quickly, I dial Vic's number and on the third ring, he answers.
"Well, well, well... My big sister decided to give me a call. How odd it is," he laughs.
"Oh come on, Vic. I've missed you."
"I know, how are you? How is school?"
"Hm! I'd say I am not so good, and school sucks, as always," I chuckle.
"Trust me, books were meant for other people, not you and I," he jokes.
We both laugh.
"What about mom? Did you get to see her?"
My eyes close and I go silent. How am I even going to start explaining to him everything mom told me? It's even hard to think about it.
I rub my temple with my hand and sigh.
"What happened? Tell me she's okay." I can sense he is desperate for an answer and so I clear my throat and begin.
"You might wanna sit down for this call" I inform him and minutes later, I hit the nail on the head.
He is speechless. I don't blame him, breaking the news to him hurts even more. The pain just doubled up.
"Oh God." is all he says in a shakey voice.
"Remember when we were kids and I told you our family was cursed?" I ask.
"Yeah, I remember," he says weakly.
"Well, fuck! Seems I wasn't lying. We're all cursed. Destined for damnation-"
He cuts me off, "Don't lose hope. Everything will be fine... I hope. I lost my job-"
"You what!? How? When? Don't tell me you did something wrong," I yell.
My family is known for all sorts of insane behaviours and I wouldn't act like Vic is a good boy, although he's not as bad as I am. Like I said, we're all cursed as a family.
"Nothing. Some rich guy came in, got drunk, bought the hotel and fired everyone in it, all because a waiter asked him for a tip. I just don't get it, rich people get what they want, any time, yet we... We just... Yeah I agree we're cursed," he sighs, then he laughs for a second.
It's funny, but still not funny. Only the Trents find humour in tragic moments. Vic explains that he is now living with his friend, after he got kicked out of his apartment, although his friend is getting annoyed by his presence since he's been there for two months now.
"If things don't work out, come over and see me and if you need anything, don't hesitate to call me. You never call, you nosey jelly bean," I say.
"I know, sorry. I'll call you and mom too. Have a great evening."
He hangs up and I sigh. I have nothing to do, my room looks clean so there's nothing to keep me busy here.
I sit there staring at the wall clock and then someone's face crosses my mind.
Kye.
Why not go visit him?
A few minutes later, I am done getting ready. A white t-shirt, black leather jacket and blue, ripped jeans combined with brown boots, my outfit for tonight and off I go, calling for an uber once I lock my room.

In the elevator, I press the fifth floor button and wait. Tapping my fingers on my hips.
Bing! "Fifth floor" the voice says and I walk out heading straight to Kye's ward, or room. I don't know what they call them here and I have no idea why I am going to visit someone I only met once, about a week ago, but hey, my legs are still moving forward, so I'll just let the rest of my body go with the flow.
The fifth floor hall is completely empty, not even a nurse in sight. As I take a corner to the left, I bump into a woman.
That stupid receptionist. The one who was on third floor, sleeping away while Sabrina tried to kill my best friend.
"Watch where you're going, and don't even think of sleeping on that damn counter tonight," I warn her and she runs away trembling.
