Chapter 54
Kyrah's POV
After a long day outdoors, I feel so much better. It was fun hanging out with everyone. Vic drops Wren back to her hostel and Kye leaves moments after dropping Roxy at my house. Scott has been nothing but hilarious today, I never knew he's that funny. After dinner, mum starts complaining about Snow.
"Honey, I've tried all I can since morning, but Snow won't leave your room. He looks... Off. I think he's sick or something. He hasn't eaten all day, poor thing. Could you check on him? I'm thinking of calling a vet soon,"
"Sure thing mom."
When I head upstairs to my room, I find Snow curled up at one corner looking like a snow ball with his white fur. He looks tired and doesn't move much when he sees me. When I try to touch him, he winces, jerks away and growls.
I try to carry him but he cries out in pain.
"What's wrong buddy?" I ask, "I need help here!" I yell.
Seconds later, Scott is in my room, he locks the door behind him and stares at Snow.
"He's not moving much, he seems to be in a lot of pain. I can't pick him up," I say, frowning. Scott squats next to Snow and gently pats his tiny head. His eyes scan the dog carefully.
"I think it his paw." He touches it and Snow growls, "Easy, boy." Without any struggle he lifts Snow into my arms. One of its paws is bloody and I gasp.
"Oh my poor munchkin. He must have hurt himself in the back yard, or in the garage," I say as I hug Snow and he licks his wounded paw.
"Maybe. I'll go get water and a bandage from your mom," Scott says and walks out immediately. When he comes back, he carefully performs first aid on Snow and the little dog looks relieved and licks Scott's palm.
"Thanks," I tell him as I sit on the bed. I pat on the empty space on the bed and he sits there. "Today has been a really good day, it's been a while since I laughed like that," I chuckle.
"Remember when Vic tripped and fell on Wren? The guy looked terrified, it's like he's scared of her or something." Scott laughs and I join in. Vic fell on Wren at the beach, I could tell there was something brewing between them all day.
"I also can't believe Roxy spanked Kye! She's definitely into him," I joke.
The room fills up with laughter from the two of us.
"Kye was in great shock! Roxy sure is a different breed," Scott adds in.
We laugh again then I hear something from outside.
"Did you hear that?" I ask Scott and he shakes his head. We sit there quietly, listening and Snow seems to be alert too. Minutes later I hear a loud bang and when I rush to the window, a see a car driving off very fast. It's quite dark so I can't see much outside.
"Who could that be?" I wonder.
"A crazy drunk, maybe," Scott says and I shrug. "Anyway, I should get going, we've got classes tomorrow, you know. I'll pick–" he pauses, "Oh, I forgot you had a car, sorry."
"It's okay, I'm not driving that thing Blake gave me any time soon."
"I understand, I'll pick you up then?" he asks joyfully.
"Cool," I say.
****
In the morning, I get myself ready. I wear a purple off-shoulder crop top and dark jeans with sneakers. I check on Snow after having breakfast and then I step out.
My car is outside Scott's house and I roll my eyes at it. Then my eyes land on a bouquet of flowers on the ground. Why is there a bouquet of flowers on my lawn.
Maybe Snow dragged them from somewhere in the house.
No, he's in so much pain he can hardly get to the front door. When my eyes move around the house, I spot our ladder positioned against the wall.
"Was someone spying on me?" I ask myself and at that moment Scott walks out.
"Roses?" he asks.
"I just found them there and the ladder," I point at the ladder, "It's always on the lawn. Someone must have been up there."
"Thats bizarre," he says, his eyes on the ladder.
"I know, let's go."
In the car, I try to think of what might have happened last night but nothing makes any sense at all. I push away the thoughts and focus on the music playing.
"What are you going to do when you see him today?" Scott asks the question that I've been avoiding since yesterday. I close my eyes for a moment.
"I don't know," I respond.
Actually, I don't even want to see him, at all. I'll probably vomit all over him. He disgusts me, for now.
As we near the gate, my entire body tenses and I can tell that Scott can see it.
"You'll be fine," he says and his words comfort me. I'm a nervous wreck!
What will we say to each other? What will Blake say? What will I say? What will I do? Do I just pretend he doesn't exist for an entire day?
"Crap!" I mutter under my breath as I close the door and fall into step with Scott. On our way to class, we bump into Tyler and Jim. We're thirty minutes early for class.
"Hey guys," Scott speaks first.
"Hey, what's up? Kyrah, long time, no see. I should buy you coffee." Tyler smirks and I hug him.
"I've missed you dummy," I tease him.
"Here, have mine. I'll get another one," Jim offers. He looks different. I still don't understand how he's friends with Blake and he's been acting all weird lately. I'm yet to find out. I take the coffee and take a sip.
"Thanks, Jim. I'll need it for the lecture. You know how boring that professor can get," I say and we burst out laughing.
"Miss Bailey, could you turn to chapter twenty one and read the first paragraph?" Tyler sluggishly imitates the slow professor and we laugh again.
"You're insane, Ty," Scott says and right at that moment as I'm busy laughing out loud, I hear a familiar voice calling me. I can hear the anger as he calls me the second time. My laughter fades in an instant!
Blake.
"Kyrah!"
"Oh God, not now," I whisper and turn slowly to face him.
He walks straight towards me in long strides and I swallow hard.
"What?" I manage to forge an angry voice and he's taken aback.
"What do you want?" Scott asks him and there goes that death glare that happens between them all the damn time.
Fists have been curled into balls.
Shit!
