Chapter 183

Roxy's POV
I couldn't sleep. At all.
Snow has been whining ever since we got home. We found dad resting on the couch, waiting for us. He told us that he'd fed Snow but he wouldn't stop whining. He's aware that Kyrah isn't around. So right in the middle of the night, I went downstairs, got him and left a note to dad and Vic that I'd be spending the night at Kyrah's place. When I got there, Kyrah's parents were still awake and a few minutes later, Vic and Wren arrived. They couldn't sleep either.
So right now, even though the sun is brightly shining, there's no sunshine in any of us. Wren is making breakfast for all of us and we do our best to clear our plates. We've all lost our appetite. After we get ready, Vic offers to drive Kyrah's parents to the hospital and Mr. Bailey hands him his car keys. Wren offers to drive my car and I ride shotgun, quietly observing every passing vehicle until we arrive at the hospital after stopping by a flower shop.
We've all bought flowers for her, I got her red roses that smell pretty nice. I just pray that she's awake to smell them.
When we enter her room, we find her lying there and we stand there, looking at her, as if our mouths have been sealed. No one says anything until Lilly opens the door and we all turn around and look at her.
"Hello, I'm glad you're finally here. She had just woken up a few minutes ago," she gestures towards Kyrah and everyone turns back to glance at her pale body, "I'll see if she can wake up again," she says and stands next to the bed. I inhale deeply and shut my eyes, hoping for the best.
"Kyrah," Lilly whispers and the tension around the room thickens.
"Kyrah, wake up," she whispers a second time and I swallow dryly, my heart is beating vigorously against my chest and I feel like yanking it out. I am sure from the way it's beating loudly everyone can hear it.
Du-Dum! Du-Dum! Du-Dum!
When Kyrah slightly moves, her mom rushes to the other side of the bed and holds her hand, then... she bats her eyelids open and Wren gasps out loud.
"My baby," her mother sobs and kisses her hand sofly. To any parent, their child will always be a child no matter how old they are.
I watch as Kyrah's eyes scan the room carefully, from the curtains, to the door, to the beddings and lastly us.
"Where am I?" she whispers and I want to run over and squeeze her into a tight hug. She looks at Lilly for a few seconds and asks, "Who are you?"
My heart sinks to the bottom of my stomach and tears begin to burn the back of my eyeballs. Lilly looks at me and I take a step closer to the bed.
"She's Lilly... Kye's sister. Don't you remember her? Wait, do you know who we all are?" my voice breaks at the end but I try to remain strong. She frowns a little and stares at the ceiling, then her eyes dart back to Lilly. "Please don't tell me that she has amnesia," I tell Lilly.
"Lilly... you were at the cabin..." her words trail off and I inwardly thank God she remembers Lilly. But what about us? Does she recall who we are? If not, I will die right this minute.
She turns to her right and looks at her mother.
"Mom," she whispers, "Dad," she says once her eyes spot her dad, "Vic," she continues and pauses for one long minute, her eyes stuck on Wren. "Wren..." and then her eyes land on me and I hold my breath. "Roxy," she bursts into tears, "What happened to me? Why am I here?" Her tears break my heart.
"Honey, you had an accident, and you went through surgery. I was worried sick about you. Your father kept saying that you'll be okay, but I couldn't go to sleep," her mom sobs and sniffles, "But we're all here, honey. We'll make sure you get well soon," she bursts out crying.
"We love you so much and we'll do anything we can to find out what happened and who did it," her dad assures her.
"It seems that she doesn't have amnesia, but after the accident, her memories might have been jumbled up. It's been a while since she saw me, plus she's never seen me in uniform," Lilly says.
"Amnesia? Accident?" Kyrah asks and I panic as I look at Lilly.
"Yes, some people tend to have amnesia after an accident, but her case isn't critical, she has a concussion," Lilly explains and I huff.
"Yes, Kyrah. You had an accident. I promise to explain everything once we find out what happened, okay?" I tell her and she nods.
"My entire body hurts. I feel so... weak, mom," Kyrah pouts and a tear drops on the bed, I bite my inner cheeks to stop myself from crying.
"You will be alright soon. We'll visit you every day and take good care of you. Lilly here will be taking care of you at night. You're a strong girl, you can fight this and we know it," her dad's encouragement makes me want to cry.
"I wanna go home, dad. I don't like hospitals," she pauses. "I need to go home, please," she begs. I clearly understand what she's saying. The last time she slept at a hospital, that ruthless witch, Cruella, tried to end her life.
"I can be watching over you at night with Lilly," I say.
"Me too," Vic adds.
"We really appreciate that. Thank you so much for your constant support and love for our daughter," Mrs. Bailey stands up and hugs us.
"I'll be helping with the cooking at your house, Mrs. Bailey. If you don't mind," Wren says, shoving her hands in her pockets.
"Aw! I don't mind at all. I am very sure that I'd burn the entire kitchen thinking about my child. Thank you all, so much," she says and her eyes turn back to Kyrah.
I have to find out what happened and where Scott is because as soon as Kyrah remembers everything, I'll be screwed if I don't have an explanation.
For the rest of the day we spend time with her. The rest of our friends come to visit and later at night when Kyrah falls asleep, an idea strikes me.
"Hey, I have an idea. I know where we can start looking," I tell my brother. "The police station. Surely there must have been some cops at the scene, right?"
"Great idea. We'll do that first thing in the morning," he says and leans back on his seat.
"We'll have to wait for her parents to get here first so that we can leave, go freshen up and pay the Sheriff a visit," I say.

Right now, we're on our way to the station. Kyrah still hasn't talked about Scott and that buys us time to figure out what the hell happened that night. She was asleep when we left.
We walk in straight through the front doors without even talking to anyone and head for the Sheriff's office but an officer stops us.
"Weren't you both arrested a few weeks ago? Where do you think you're going?" the woman asks.
"To see the Sheriff and please, don't even bother stopping us or else all hell will break loose," I deadpan.
"Excuse me, young lady. Kindly go to the waiting area and wait like everyone else," she rudely snaps.
"Well, clearly, we're the only one's who are civilians here, how are we supposed to wait like 'everyone else' when really, there's no other civilians here," Vic blurts out angrily and pinches the brim of his nose. "You have got to be kidding me," he states.
"We don't want to cause any trouble, we just want and need to talk to the Sheriff. It's urgent," I say calmly, "We need to see her physically, so don't even think of asking us to call her, we know she's busy but we won't leave this building until we see her, you got that?" I ask her and she rolls her eyes.
"Listen here miss–"
"No! You listen here! Someone's life is in danger and the only person who can help us find a solution, is right behind that door that's literally five steps away," Vic yells angrily and for a moment I am taken aback.
"Calm down," the officer says.
"Don't you tell me to calm down," he says and rakes his fingers through his hair.
"It's okay, officer. Always allow them to see me otherwise, they'd burn this building down if you try and stop them," Sheriff Claire walks up to us and signals us to follow her into her office.
