Chapter 74
Kyrah's POV
The moment we arrive after the longest drive ever, I can barely wait to get out of the car. There's fresh air all over, trees swaying from side to side, tiny squirrels running right in front of the most beautiful log cabin I have ever seen. The urge to walk inside elevates.
I quickly open the car's door and whisper more to myself.
"Wow! It's beautiful!"
It looks a little rugged and rustic here and there, but somehow it still appears invitingly comfortable. This log cabin looks as if it has popped straight out of a fairytale with a happy ending or a picture book for little kids. It looks like so many things that I can't even find the words to describe.
Wild flowers have grown at the front of the log cabin and nearby I can hear the sound of water flowing.
"Is there a stream or something around here?" I ask Scott who is now taking out our bags from the trunk. Kye and Vic are also doing the same.
"A river, actually, not too big though," Scott says as he lifts one of my bags with ease.
"Awesome! Can we go see it?" I ask excitedly.
"Sure, let's settle in first," he says.
"Sure thing, let me help you with that," I take a bag from him and I follow Kye.
"The flowers are so beautiful," Wren says as she carries her suitcase.
"Yeah, everything looks so natural here, I love it!" Roxy says as we wait for Kye to open the door. He takes out keys from his pocket and unlocks the door with ease.
"Welcome to your home for the weekend," Kye announces and we all walk in without hesitation.
Inside I can spot a huge wooden circular table, with six wooden chairs around it, an antique wall clock that's apparently not working, but I don't mind. There's a stone chimney at one corner of the cabin and some firewood by it's side.
I walk around and find two long, brown couches in what I assume to be the living room. There's a small table too and few other things here and there. In the kitchen, all the utensils you'd think of, are also there.
"Does someone else live here?" Roxy asks as she looks around.
Come to think of it, it kind of looks like someone lives here. It's all clean and well furnished. Plus, I noticed a warm ribbon of smoke rising from the old chimney when we arrived.
"Yeah, my uncle, he was actually here in the morning to make sure everything was ready for us. After my aunt died a few months ago, he comes here every weekend to clear his mind. She loved this cabin alot. She even used to feed the squirrels you've seen running around. So yeah, I asked if we could spend the weekend here," Kye states and I nod my head.
"Oh, that was nice of him," Roxy says.
"I've been here a couple of times with Kye. It's a very peaceful place. Away from all the noise in the city," Scott says.
"And Sabrina," Vic jokes and we all laugh.
"I've heard about her, she sounds so evil," Kye says and he cringes.
"Hah! Trust me, you don't want to know her in person. She's the devil's daughter," Wren says and I chuckle.
"Okay, okay. Forget about that fake-boobed human with chicken legs–" Roxy starts and I cut her off.
"Chicken legs?" Everyone laughs.
"Yeah, she walks like a chicken. Especially in heels." She shrugs, "Anyway, let's settle in first and then we'll know what to do next."
"Where are we supposed to sleep?" Vic asks
"Oh, right this way," Kye walks past Scott and I towards the staircase I hadn't noticed was there. We follow him upstairs to be shown our rooms.
From the outside no one could tell this cabin has four rooms upstairs and two bathrooms.
"Wait, we're six of us and before I show you your rooms, let's first agree on something, and I'll ask you ladies first. There are four beds in this house and six of us as I said, so... Uhm... we could sleep two people per bed and one bed would be unoccupied. Or four people to sleep on each of the four beds and two people will have sleeping bags downstairs. Which one do you choose?" Kye asks as he looks at us ladies.
"Err... I'm sure no one would want to sleep in the sleeping bags," Wren states the obvious. Roxy has gone awfully quiet.
"Uhm... Can we discuss this?" I ask Wren and she nods.
"Alright, we'll be downstairs," Scott says and they leave.
Roxy heaves a sigh of relief.
"You know what's going to happen and I can't even imagine myself doing that!" Roxy says.
"I know, but would you rather sleep in the sleeping bag downstairs? Plus we're in the woods, it looks like it gets pretty cold out here at night," I say.
"So sharing beds with the boys... This is going to be awkward!" Wren says and I agree with a nod.
"Yap! We're three ladies and if two of us share a bed, one of us will have to sleep with one of the boys. Plus two boys sharing a bed is awkward. To be fair we just have to. Look... Roxy I know you're not comfortable with this idea..." she's now biting her nails "... But, it's just for the weekend," I speak and Wren sighs, Roxy's jaw drops.
"Don't you feel awkward knowing that you're going to sleep with Scott tonight yet you have a boyfriend?" Wren frowns and she tilts her head to one side.
"She's slept over at Scott's place multiple times. So, she's alright with the idea, unlike us," Roxy says rolling her eyes at me.
"It's not like that, Scott and I have never done anything out of the usual. Although I have a boyfriend, it kind of feels okay... I guess, he's my best friend anyway," I try to defend myself.
Wren raises an eyebrow and smirks.
"Well, I'm not that scared of Vic, we grew up together, so Roxy, chill. It'll be morning before you know it," Wren says and I hide my smile.
"Oh my God! Nooo!" Roxy whines and I grab her forearm and pull her closer.
"Get a hold of yourself, woman!" I whisper, shaking her several times. "You can do this. If you get too uncomfortable, we can sleep in the sleeping bags then," I tell her and she calms down.
"Promise?" she asks.
"Promise," I reply and she smiles.
"Good, we're all sorted, now let's tell the boys our decision," Wren says and calls them and in a few seconds they come back.
"Okay, we've decided that we'll share rooms, every person will be with the one they drove with, for obvious reasons," I say and I can feel Vic tense beside me.
The fearless Trent's have been acting weird lately.
"Okay, uhm... Roxy and I will pick this one, Scott and Kyrah you'll get the room at the end and Wren and Vic, both of you will get the one next to ours," Kye says and heads back downstairs.
I walk to the bedroom that we're supposed to spend the weekend in. The bed is huge and the sheets have been spread neatly. There's a night stand, a closet, a dressing table and a window whose curtains aren't drawn.
"You like it?" Scott asks from behind me and I turn to face him, my hands digging deeper into my jean back pockets.
"Yeah. I actually love it. I can't wait to explore more," I say.
"Awesome, let's get our stuff and unpack then, we'll go to the river right away," he says and I squeal.
"Yay!"
