Chapter 60
Roxy slams her fists on the coffee table. Her eyes scanning each and every one of us.
"You might be wondering why we called you here, first of all before I say anything else. You should know mama missed you," Roxy says and Tyler laughs.
"Come on, who wouldn't want to miss me?" Tyler asks.
Maeve walks in right on time. We're in my kitchen, my mom won't be around for the rest of the day.
"Okay. As you all know we've been having trouble with Cruella and there seems to be someone who's telling her everything about Kyrah. If you're the mole, we're gonna find out. Sooner or later," Roxy states.
"Mole? You're making this sound like we're in the military or something like that," Tyler says.
For a reason my eyes are on Jim. Why does he look so relaxed? I'm sure it's him. He's been acting weird lately and that's proof.
"Roxy just... Let me handle this." I stand next to her on the kitchen island. "Guys, one of you keeps messing my life up by telling Sabrina my whereabouts. I'm sure it's not Maeve because she's always with her books or boyfriend. It's not Roxy or Scott for obvious reasons, and it's not Tyler. Tyler hates Blake more than I hate broccoli–"
Jim cuts me off as he leaves the island.
"Hold up! So you're saying that it's me who's the snitch? Are you fucking kidding me?" he moves away from us, two steps back. "Kyrah, you're insane. I would never do that to you. You know that."
I sigh heavily and shake my head. This is all confusing.
"I'm sorry but I don't trust you right now. You're always on and off, one moment you're gloomy, the next you're calling Blake, 'bro'. Why?" I ask him as I watch his reaction. His eyes are bulging and his jaw just dropped.
"What? I've never even talked to that guy. I swear it guys, believe me. I would never talk to Sabrina either–" he tries to explain himself but I won't buy it.
I move closer to him and I look straight into his eyes. He looks pissed off.
"Just say it! It's you! You're the fucking snitch!" I grab his hoodie with all my strength. "Do you know how fucking annoying it is to know that one of my friends keeps leading the enemy to me. Feeding the enemy with information of my daily locations. Do you have any fucking idea of what I've been through? Huh? She almost killed me when I was at the hospital for crying out loud. Just fucking say you're the snitch!" I am shaking and my stomach is in knots now. I push him to the wall. "Say something!" I yell at him and he looks scared. Maeve grabs me and pulls me away from Jim.
"Go easy on him, Kyrah, let him go," Scott defends Jim.
"Bloody hell! I don't want to see you anywhere around us again!" I hiss. I can feel the bitterness in my growing.
Huffing and puffing. Curving my fists into balls until my fingernails dig deep crescents on my palms.
"So you're just going to do that? Kyrah, I don't know who it is but it's not me. Please. You know I don't have any other friends. You're my only closest friends. Like family. It's not me." He sounds sorry.
"Kyrah, Jim is right. I doubt he would do such a thing. He's a good guy. Don't let your anger make you do something stupid," Maeve says as she stands next to Jim. Her glasses are firm up the bridge of her nose and her hair is curly.
"Maeve we have to, he's the only one we suspect and for Kyrah's safety, he's gotta stay away for a while," Roxy explains to Maeve and she nods.
"You know what? It's... It's fine. You can kick me out of your group on whatsapp too. I won't be around anymore." Jim grabs his backpack from the kitchen island and starts heading out of the kitchen, but I stop him.
"What do you mean?" I ask, I am calm now.
"I was going to tell you that I'll be going to visit my sick grandparents. The semester is coming to an end, so don't worry, I'll be out of your lives for good." He takes two steps and I stand right in front of him. Staring deep into his eyes.
"Jim, wait. This is confusing. I am confused. I'm... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be hard on you, I'm just going crazy knowing because that retard is always following me. Please I–" I don't know what to say.
What have I become these days. Treating my friends wrongly.
A thought hits me. Jim is always the quiet one. Very quiet.
"It doesn't matter. I was going to tell you guys I'm leaving. I might never come back here again. Kyrah, no matter what happens when I am gone, just try to believe me. I am your friend, not your enemy. You're all my friends and since I started as a freshman and got to know all of you one by one, I have always felt a sense of belonging. No one wanted to be friends with me since I was a geek but I met Maeve. She's just amazing. Roxy you're always teasing me but, that's just you. Tyler I hate you for forcing me to be your friend. You're too noisy," he pauses and Tyler chuckles "Scott, I haven't known you for a long time but, you're cool. That's it. I won't bother you again." He finally stops speaking and the whole room goes silent, everyone is looking at Jim. Even Snow, I didn't realize he came into the kitchen.
"Jim, I–" I try to speak but my words fail me.
"It's okay. I don't blame you. We'll all be busy with the finals and there's no difference. Goodbye guys," he says and walks away without looking back. We only hear the front door close and I rake my fingers through my unkempt hair as I blow air out of my mouth. What the hell have I done?
