Chapter 204
"Scott, might you by any chance remember someone by the name Kye? Kye Ripley," I ask and his eyes widen a little.
"Yeah, why?" he asks.
"Wow! Uhm... I don't know what to say. I guess you remember him since you two have been friends for long. Well, he's Roxy's boyfriend now. I guess we forgot to tell you," I say and his jaw drops.
"You know Kye? And he's Roxy's boyfriend? Damn! I never thought Kye would be the dating type. He liked talking about finding 'the one'. I guess he did," Scott chuckles, "I hope I find 'the one' for me too," he says and I look away.
I'm 'the one', it's me! I am right here.
"Where is he now?" Scott asks.
"He's always busy at work, sometimes his phone is usually off, but I'll try and call him now," I fish my phone out and dial Kye's number. His phone is off and Scott is disappointed.
"Give me his number, I'll surprise him. If you guys haven't told him yet, I'll do it myself. Tell Roxy not to say a word. Kye is like a brother to me and I can imagine how he felt when I..." his words trail off and he sighs.
"It's okay. Anyway, what did you want to tell me?" I ask.
"I was hoping you'd have dinner with me and my family. Tonight," he says and stares deep into my eyes, waiting for my response.
"Sure. I would love to have dinner with you guys. But I need to freshen up a little. I had a long day," I say.
"Take your time, I'll wait for you here," he coos and a warm feeling takes over my body. I quickly rush upstairs and freshen up quickly, change into a comfortable blue dress and flats and dash back downstairs. The look on Scott's face is priceless when he sees me. He just sits there, not daring to blink.
"What?" I ask.
"You look quite stunning. I haven't seen you in a dress since I got here," he says as he stands up.
"Wow! Thank you. I guess I'll try and wear dresses more often. Shall we go now?" I ask and wrap my hand around his forearm and he nods at me as we head out of the house.

The house is filled with laughter after we finish our meal. Scott is making random jokes and I can't stop laughing out loud. It's been ages since I laughed like this. His parents seem to be in a good relationship. I'm not sure if they got back together or not.
"So Kyrah, I wanted you to come over for dinner so that I can explain myself and how everything went down. I'm sure my wife told you part of the story. Not all of it though," the General says and takes a sip of his water.
"You mean there's more?" I ask as my eyes bulge.
"Just the part that tore me apart most," he responds and just like that, everyone goes silent.
"The moment I managed to leave this place, I sat with my son at the army hospital every day and night. I thought I'd lose my one and only son. I didn't know what to do but wait for a miracle. When the doctor told me Scott was awake, I was outside trying to get some air. I ran as fast as my feeble legs could carry me," he clears his throat and looks at his son. Scott is calm.
He continues,"I found him lying on the bed, bandages still covering different parts of his body. The moment I called his name, he... he asked me who I was and that tore me apart. Thank God it didn't take him a long time to remember me. Then came other sad news. He tried to move his legs but he couldn't feel them at all. It felt like the weight of the world had landed on my shoulders. I couldn't handle it by myself, I broke down right in front of my son like a child. I called his mother and it took my son longer to remember her. Since Katherine and I have been separated for a long time and Scott barely saw her while we were separated. I am so sorry for everything that happened to the two of you and I hope you understand the decision I made to take Scott away from you," he says.
"I understand you very well now. I'm also sorry for what you went through as a family. Thank you for bringing him back," I say and I look at Scott and sigh.
"I've seen the way he used to look at you. The way he used to care about you and talk about you all the time. He once told me he had feelings for you. I told him to tell you about it. I hope he did," the General states.
"Yeah," I say and purse my lips. "But I never got the chance to say it back," my words fail me and I feel a hand on my thigh. My eyes turn towards Scott.
"Everything will be fine. Soon. I can feel it," Mrs. Stone finally speaks and that's when I notice her puffy eyes. She's been seated quietly, listening to our conversation.
"The air in here is full of tension if you ask me. Mom, were you able to find any clients online?" Scott asks, his hand is still on my thigh and I hold on to it. It feels so warm and soft. I wish I could hold him like this forever.
"Sadly, no. But I'll keep looking," she says.
Scott turns to me and says, "My mom's a Lawyer."
"Oh, I didn't know. So you're looking for clients? I could help you out in a way," I say and she frowns.
"How?" she asks.
"Roxy's dad owns a law firm. I'm sure her dad can fix you somewhere. I'll call him right now," I say and grab my phone and call Mr. Trent.
I inform him about Mrs. Katherine Stone.
"That's great. Tell her to come to the firm tomorrow at noon. Give her the directions and my phone number," Mr. Trent says.
"Alright, I will. Thank you so much," I say and hang up.
"He said you should go over there tomorrow at noon. I'll give you the directions and his number. Good luck," I grin at her and she leaves her seat and pulls me into a warm hug.
"Thank you so much dear," she says.
"You always make my family happy, Kyrah. I am not letting you go any time soon. You're like a good luck charm to all of us," the General says and I chuckle.
"I am not going anywhere any time soon, sir," I say and turn to look at Scott.
"Oh, I almost forgot, my friends will be coming to the exhibition and they will be quite many and I assure you, your art will be sold out in seconds," he says and my jaw drops.
"Thank you so much. I can't wait," I squeal.
