Chapter 167

Kyrah's POV
I wasn't surprised to see Blake at all, but seeing how his face looks, scared the life out of me. His face hasn't completely healed, from afar I spotted purplish skin below his left eye. And his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when he saw me. He found me talking to his dad, I was just getting the phone number I had asked for and went a few steps away from them to make the call.
"Kyrah?" the female voice fills my ear. How does she have my number?
"Yeah. Sabrina. I need your help." I can't fucking believe I am doing this. Then I remember she once texted me but I didn't bother saving my arch enemy's number. Why would I?
"What do you want?" She sniffles. Is she crying or something?
No, she probably has a cold.
"Actually, Blake needs your help." I bite my lip then continue to explain to her what's going on. "Please, hurry up before something bad happens," I say.
"I'll be there," she says and hangs up. As far as I know, she lives six houses away from Blake's and she'll be here any minute.
I head over to tell Blake's dad that she's coming and he sighs heavily and rakes his fingers through his hair. From the corner of my eye, I can tell that Blake is looking at me. I don't want to look at him. I am only here because of Carla.
Breathe. Just breathe.
I look back up at his mom and I swallow dryly. My heart is beating so fast right now that I can't even think straight.
Unknowingly, I turn and Blake's eyes and mine lock and I hold my breath. For a moment I wait to feel something... anything, when I look at him but... I feel nothing. A little regret but no pain at all. He seems to be in so much pain, I don't know if it's because of me or what's happening right now. He opens his mouth to speak but his eyes look behind me and I turn around.
"Sabrina, please. This is not the time–" Blake starts but Sabrina cuts him off.
"Kyrah called me. I'm here to help and then I'll go away," she says quietly. Blake stares back at me and he frowns. He can't believe what I just did. I can't believe it either.
She's in a red pair of jeans and a white croptop. Her hair is flawless as always, and her makeup is still intact but from her puffy eyes, I can tell that she's been crying. I always know when someone has been crying.
We stare at each other blankly and Mr. Dawson breaks the silence.
"Thank God you're here, please, try all you can to get her from up there please," Max begs Sabrina.
Sabrina nods.
"I'll go up there," she says and starts walking but Blake grabs her arm and yanks her back and she nearly slams into his chest.
"Do you have a death wish or what? My mom has a gun up there!" Blake says.
"As far as I know, she'll listen to me instead of anyone else," Sabrina says nonchalantly and walks into the house. She's less feisty, less rude and less bitchy than she usually is. A few minutes later she's at the top of the roof. She's speaking in a low tone and no one can hear what she's saying as she approaches Reyna and Carla. She's probably praying to God not to trip and fall.
"What the fuck is she doing?" Blake yells out of annoyance.
"She's trying to help, let her," I speak without looking at him.
Sabrina gets to the middle part of the the house, Reyna hasn't noticed her yet but when she does, she turns the gun towards Sabrina who in turn raises her hands in defeat.
"Get away from me!" Reyna yells.
"Reyna, please, this is not what someone like you should be doing right now. Give me the gun–"
"I am NOT giving you the damn gun! They sent you up here, didn't they? So you're just going to give me up to the police just like that, huh? Sabrina? Aren't we supposed to be friends?" Reyna yells.
Sabrina takes a step forward.
"Don't you dare take another stupid step or else, I will kill Carla and then you and I will finish up with myself!" Reyna threatens. Tightening her grip on both Carla and the gun.
She holds the gun firmly.
From where I am, my head is spinning with worst case scenarios.
"Blake." I turn to him. "Is there another way one can get to the roof, behind your mom?"
"The right side of the attic," he says and frowns as I leave and run into the house. I ignore him once he calls me. The next thing I know is that I am standing at the rooftop of his house, right behind Reyna and Carla.
I have Acrophobia. The height from where people are standing to where I am is scaring the jeepers creepers out of me. I am trembling and my palms are sweaty. My breathing is unsteady and my legs are wobbly. I feel like I could hurl my guts out right now.
Just breathe. You can do this. Just don't look down. DO NOT FUCKING LOOK DOWN!
I close my eyes for a moment and take a few deep breaths to calm myself. In... Out... In... Out.
Don't look down. Eyes on the prize.
I open my eyes when I hear Sabrina talking to Reyna calmly. Carla is quiet now. Reyna's arm is around her neck and the other that's holding the gun is slowly lowering to her side. She's crying. Sabrina has seen me but she keeps the conversation going.
Why am I doing this again?
For Carla.
"Come on, Reyna. We've all done bad things at some point. You don't have to end it this way. They'll probably give you a longer jail term but you can hire very good lawyers and they could reduce your sentence."
The fact that Sabrina sounds so gentle bugs the life out of me. It irritates me because... that's not who she's always been. As she keeps talking to Reyna, I approach them quietly, like a tiger eyeing it's prey, ready to pounce on it.
The moment my mind tells me to grab the gun, I don't hesitate. Her hand is loosely holding the gun and I snatch it away from her and when she turns to face me with Carla plastered against her, Sabrina jumps on top of Reyna and chokes her from behind. I point the gun at Reyna. Carla is now free and from how she's crawling on the roof, she's afraid of heights too.
"We need help up here!" I yell. "Carla, use the attic's right window and get to safety." Everyone at the bottom is gasping and whispering. Others are screaming.
Sabrina is trying hard to stop Reyna from moving. They could fall off the roof if Reyna decides to roll on top of Sabrina.
In a few seconds an officer is with us at the roof and cuffs Reyna who has now stopped fighting. She's crying. Loudly. Annoyingly.
