Chapter 131
In less than an hour we arrive at the Meridian Square Garden, where lots and lots of fancy vehicles are beginning to flood. We take a glimpse of the row of gleaming limousines, Rolls Royces and Bentleys outside, stretching as far as our eyes can see. All of us are staring out the windows as Bobby tries to find his way to the entrance so that he can drop us off.
"Look at all these people!" Wren gasps loudly. "And the cars, and their outfits... this... this is fucking amazing!" we all turn to look at her. It's quite rare for Wren to use the word 'fucking' anywhere.
"Stop staring you guys, I'm just excited." She grins.
"And from what I'm seeing, our dress code is perfect for the event," I say after seeing a couple of ladies walk from their Bentley in quite large gowns.
"I wouldn't even want to imagine how it would have been if we were wearing outfits that didn't match the theme. We'd probably be featured on E-News on 'the worst dressed people' at the masquerade party." Roxy places a hand on her chest and sighs.
Scott chuckles, "Thank God we have someone who is keen on what we wear during big events," he says and winks at me.
When I check the time on Scott's wrist watch, I find that it's exactly five minutes past seven O'clock and I'm glad that we arrived just on time.
Bobby stops the limo in front of the large entrance as other vehicles line up behind us, waiting to drop off other people. He then opens his door and walks out to the back door and opens it for us. The boys hop out majestically, straightening their outfits with so much pride and that makes me chuckle a bit.
"Ladies, shall we?" Vic asks and holds his hand out and Wren gently places her hand in his and he helps her out of the limo. Johnny does the same with Maeve and Scott with Roxy and I.
"Thanks Bobby, we'll let you know when we want to leave and if you would like us to–" Bobby cuts Roxy off.
"Hey, it's okay. You guys have fun, just give me a call and I'll pick you up. I'll be hanging around here somewhere," he says and taps the tip of his hat as he nods and then drives away. Another vehicle pulls over and drops off its passengers.
I sigh and turn to face the beautiful entrance. The large doors are surrounded by white roses and bright lights are illuminating the path into the hallway, revealing everyone in their elegant outfits. As we walk further, I can hear people laughing softly as symphonic music plays. Right past the hallway into the large garden, a gigantic white dome has been erected in the middle, at the entrance of the dome, are two ladies dressed in black trousers and white shirts and we approach them.
"Welcome to the masquerade party, your names and invitations please?" one of them raises an eyebrow at us and Scott fishes out the letter that my dad had given me before he left for his trip, from his pocket. For a reason I can't explain, my arm goes around Scott's large bicep and I lean on to him.
"Alright. Pearl?" the other lady calls out and Maeve and Johnny walk into the dome. The invitation had given everyone a secret name to use, my dad's invitation had instructed him to use names of precious stones, so we all chose various stones. Other people probably got names of flowers, animals, cities and other things, I don't know.
"Emerald?" Wren and Vic walk past us.
"That leaves us with Ruby and Diamond," the lady says.
"I'm Diamond," Roxy says and begins walking ahead when Scott stops her.
"We'll be with you wherever you go, now, please come over here." He gestures for her to put her arm around him and so, we walk in. With Scott sandwiched between Roxy and I.
We're all grinning like idiots when we enter the large dome. Inside, a crowd of people are enjoying the music and I notice that people are seated.
"Hey, Kyrah! Over here." I hear Vic call and I turn to spot them seated at a large table covered with a white clothing. The three of us move and take our seats and I notice that our table is the largest. Probably because most people who got invited came as a pair, but my group is larger than a pair. But who cares!
"So where are the celebrities?" Roxy asks, adjusting her mask.
"Well, it's... It's gonna be hard spotting anyone around here, we're all in masks and have code names." Maeve pouts and Johnny kisses her on her forehead.
"Relax, we'll know as soon as they're called to collect their awards, besides, the main reason we're here is to have an amazing time, celebs or not." I point out and they all agree with me. According to the program of the night, first, various people will be awarded, then amazing performances by well known artists, light dinner and lastly an orchestra will play and people will move to another location, within the garden, to dance. I can't wait!
Several waiters and waitresses pass by with champagne, wine and all sorts of drinks and everyone grabs the drink of their choice. I pick a glass of red wine for myself and begin to down it as soon as I hold the glass. The crowd seems to be getting larger by the minute and all the tables are filling up and soon enough, a well dressed gentleman and a sassy looking lady in extremely high heels, stand at the podium up ahead. They're the hosts for tonight, so I assume. They both have their masks on, but they take them off as soon as they begin talking using microphones. Roxy's jaw drops when she notices them, I'm also in shock!
"Ladies and gentlemen... Welcome to the ultimate masquerade party of the year!" The crowd cheers and gives a round of applause. "My name is Issa Rae."
"And I am Shia LaBeouf," the guy says and out of nowhere, some random girl yells, "I love you Shia!" and everyone laughs.
As they continue talking I turn to everyone at my table.
"Guys, Shia LaBeouf is here! Issa Rae is here! Can you imagine the number of great celebrities hiding behind all those masks in here?"
"I know, this is incredible, I feel like running around and taking everyone's masks off just to know who is who," Roxy says and we chuckle and an old woman from the next table frowns at us and I shrug and direct my attention back to the hosts.
"Thank you all for coming and I've gotta say, y'all look amazing tonight. Even though I can't tell who is who cause y'all are wearing masks," Issa Rae says and everyone laughs softly but apparently Maeve releases a very loud laughter that makes everyone's head turn to our table.
"Ssshh!" the old lady from the table next to ours takes off her mask and scowls at Maeve.
"Sorry," Maeve says, "I didn't know celebrities have a certain way of laughing," she whispers and I chuckle. I turn to Scott, who has suddenly gone quiet since we got in here. His blue eyes are focused on the two characters upfront but he senses my stare and looks down at me. Even when he's seated, his height overpowers mine.
