Chapter 111

Roxy's POV
It's quite strange honestly, being here with him again after so long. Despite how long he'd been away, I still remember everything about him. His gentle smile is still the same, his dark hair, the way he laughs, making his entire body move. He looks different, with the scar on his face but all in all, that's the only physical difference I can spot. I know all this awkwardness will end with time. I wonder how everyone at the party will react.
Will Kyrah and Scott like him? What will Kyrah even say when she finds out that Scar, is my dad?
Vic is driving right now and we're headed to Kyrah's place. It's almost 7PM. Earlier on, dad took us on a mini tour around Wolf Street, well I knew my way around but Vic didn't.
As of now, I'm seated at the back seat alone, with dad sitting shotgun, facing straight ahead just like Vic is. We're riding in a pretty classy, black Mercedes-Benz CLS, brand new if you ask me, and I'm admiring the seats just as random thoughts flood my medulla. This is one of the most luxurious cars I've been in. I'm deeply rooted into my thoughts that I hardly notice dad is talking to me.
"Sorry, what?" I straighten up at the back seat.
"I said, that this is your birthday gift," he says and I almost choke on my saliva. I cock my head to one side and lean forward, mouth slightly agape.
"Wait, what? You don't mean this car, do you?" I ask and Vic chuckles.
"Yes, this car is yours and soon enough, I'll get Vic his, so that he can be driving to campus with ease," he says and lowers his fedora. He's in a black suit and fedora but no cloak.
"Dad, this... This is the best gift ever! I love it!" I lean against his seat to smell the leather. "Mh! Now this right here is one hot ride."
"I know right? Pretty sleek and comfortable. I can't wait to get mine." Vic slaps the steering wheel in excitement and I laugh.
"Also, I've been thinking about something but I don't know how you guys will take it, maybe you'll think I'm moving too fast or..." he stares out the window.
"As long as it doesn't involve Olivia, then drop the bombshell dad," I say and he smiles then nods at me.
"I was thinking of buying a house near where you've been staying, at your friends houses that is. I wanted you two to be closer to your friends, is that okay with you? We can check out the houses tomorrow or any day you want," he says and my jaw drops.
"That would be amazing!" I place my arm on his shoulder. "We'd love that." We're going to have our own house, finally. After so many years!
I feel teary after calling him dad. Just like old times. The word tastes so foreign on my tongue. I haven't had anyone to call 'dad' in years. He had his reasons for not showing up but he took too damn long. Even though we lived broken lives with Vic, he, also lived a broken life, his family scattered away from him. Mom in prison and his children in other people's homes. Now that we're together, I'm ready to fix us. I want us to be a better family, even though with mom not around things might not be the same but I'll try and I know dad and Vic will give it their all too. This is what mom would have wanted. For us to reunite and be there for each other, I guess that's why she told us to look for Olivia as soon as possible.
By the time we get to Kyrah's place, the night has fallen and enveloped the city in a blanket of thick darkness. The porch light is on, and the familiar yellow glow makes the house feel warm and inviting. It feels like we'd been away for long. Vic pulls over right in front of the house.
"Alright, dad, let's go," Vic says and immediately the vehicle that was once alive, goes quiet and we all walk out. I can hear dad sighing. He's probably nervous. I'm nervous too.
We walk all the way to the door and I sigh just as I place my palm on the doorknob. The metal of the doorknob is cool against my palm and I twist it with ease, entering the well-lit living room. To my surprise there are more people than I expected. I only thought it would be Kyrah, Scott, Kye, Wren and Kyrah's mom.
"Surprise!!" They all shout and a smile curves across my face.
I walk in first, followed by Vic then by dad and that's when there's an awkward silence.
Kyrah is frowning, her mom looks confused. Kye's eyes are stuck on my dad. The others are pursing their lips. They all don't know who my dad is. Maeve is here, so is Tyler and the twins, Jim and Tim. Kyrah's dad too!
"Okay, now that the birthday girl is here, why don't we start the party?" Scott announces and everyone moves to different spots in the house chatting away like nothing just happened. Like a stranger didn't just walk in. But not Kye and Kyrah. Both of them walk straight towards me automatically like robots.
Oh boy!
"Roxy!" Kyrah says.
"Babe!" Kye says and they both hug me. Kyrah's eyes move from me to behind me where my dad is standing.
"You must be Kyrah," dad says and nods at her. "And you must be Kye. Pleasure to meet you," he says while shaking Kye's hand firmly.
"Uhm... I think Roxy should do the introduction," Vic says and dashes off to where Wren is and kisses her on the forehead.
"Alright, everyone, can I have your attention please?" I raise my voice a little higher. "Just for a minute!" and then everyone's focus is on me. "Thank you. First of all, I want to thank you all for coming and I love all of you. So, I'm sure you're wondering who's the person standing next to me." I turn to my dad and give him a small smile. "He's my dad."
I hear a gasp from somewhere in the room.
"Roxy, are you... Okay?" Kyrah asks.
"Yeah, I'm very okay and this right here is my father. It's... It's a long story guys but I'd appreciate it if you didn't make him feel like a stranger," I say.
Silence.
