Chapter 178
Roxy's POV
I'm woken up by my phone ringing and I groan as I reach across the bed to where it is. I fell asleep last night right after talking to Kye. He went back to work and I already miss him so much. He's been nothing but good to me.
From the light streaming into my room, it's already morning.
When I check the caller's name, it's Lilly. Why would Kye's sister be calling me this early, it's 7am for crying out loud. I hate waking up early. But it's okay, I might as well start my day already.
"Lilly, hey," I croak as I roll on to my back on the bed, facing the ceiling.
"Hey... Roxy, where are you right now?" she asks.
"I'm at home, still in bed," I say while yawning lazily and scratching my thigh under the sheets.
"Uhm... I don't know how to break it to you but... something extremely bad happened last night," she says.
Immediately my eyes nearly pop out of their sockets as I lift myself and lean on to the headboard, my heart is already beating vigorously against my chest and my hands begin to tremble.
"What? What happened to Kye?" are the words that leave my mouth.
"It's not Kye–" she begins but I cut her off as my eyes dart around the room, looking for my sweatpants.
"Is it you? Are you okay, Lilly?" I ask quickly.
"Roxy, let me finish talking. It's Kyrah. She got into a terrible accident last night..." the rest of her words become inaudible as everything turns blurry for a minute and an endless ringing in my ears blocks every sound away. An accident?
"Roxy? Are you still there?" Lilly's voice snaps me back to reality.
"Oh my God! Where are you?" I ask as I shoot out of the bed.
"I'm at the hospital, how fast can you get here? I'll tell you everything once you arrive. She's in a really critical condition," Lilly explains and my throat runs dry and my hands are barely holding the phone as they tremble even more.
"Give me twenty minutes flat. I'll be there," I say as I rush into my bathroom, throw some water on my face, and dash out as I pull on some sweatpants and a sweatshirt. I yell at the top of my lungs as I literally run to Vic's room, struggling to put on a pair of shoes.
"Vic! Vic! Wake up!" I yell and right before I slam my fist on his door, he opens it. He's already awake, thank God!
"What is it?" he asks as he pulls on a t-shirt, his brows furrowed.
"It's Kyrah, she got into an accident. Lilly just called," my voice breaks, "She's in a critical condition, we have to go, right now!" I bite my inner cheeks to prevent myself from sobbing out loud.
"Shit!" Vic curses and grabs his shoes hastily and we fly down the stairs.
"I'm driving," he says once we get to my car. I surrender my keys to him, because I know if I sit in front of that wheel, we might as well get into an accident ourselves. I'm not thinking straight, I'm worried. My hands are shaking like I'm being elecrocuted. My forehead is already sweaty. I feel like everything is spinning too fast.
I can't lose my best friend.
Vic drives faster than I have ever seen him drive and few minutes later, we arrive at the hospital and without wasting time, I dash out of the car even before it stops, leaving my brother behind and I run to the entrance and find Lilly pacing around at the reception.
"Lilly!" I yell as I ignore the other people staring at me. Seconds later Vic joins me.
"What happened?" I ask while swallowing dryly, trying not to cry or show any signs of weakness.
"Where is she, can we see her?" Vic asks.
"She was brought in last night, by an ambulance. She's lost a lot of blood and she's has cuts and bruises all over her body. I only got to know it was her when I was looking for the doctor who's supposed to do a surgery on her–"
"Surgery?" Vic's jaw drops and suddenly my feet can't hold me up and I nearly collapse. Vic catches me in time.
"She's has a broken arm and rib. I'm so sorry," Lilly says as she moves in to hug me. "Unfortunately, no one is allowed to see her until her condition is stable."
I want to cry, I want to scream, but my voice fails me for a moment.
"This is too much, oh God, this can't be happening. No, no, no." I tremble as I try to stand by myself.
"She needs blood, urgently! Her blood group is B negative," Lilly says, straightening her white uniform.
"I can't donate blood to Kyrah, mine is A positive." I feel a tear escape my left eye and I brush it away quickly.
"Dad is O negative!" Vic says as he fishes his phone and dials dad. I sit on one of the seats at the reception and hang my head low as I sob quietly. Hot tears burn my eyes and cheeks and they keep streaming down endlessly, like water from an open faucet.
"Roxy, she'll be fine. I promise you, I will be there for her, every step of the way. Be strong," Lilly hugs me and I sob loudly. This is a cursed year. I hate it.
"Dad's on his way here," Vic says as he sits next to me. Then I shoot up at the realization that Kyrah was with Scott the whole of yesterday. He was to spend the entire day with her.
"Lilly, where's Scott?" I ask and she frowns, looking all confused.
"What do you mean?" she asks, puzzled.
"Kyrah was with Scott. Where is he? Where is Scott?" I yell again and I feel a tear escape my eyes and I grit my teeth very hard.
"I don't know. I was informed that only Kyrah was brought in. All alone," she says while frowning.
"No, no, no. Something is wrong. She was with Scott the whole day, why isn't Scott here? What's not happening?" I pull my hair out of frustration and begin pacing from left to right, my nails digging deep into my palms. I furiously stomp my foot on the marble floor and curse out loud. People turn and stare at me but I don't give a hoot about what they think. I know hospitals are meant to be quiet places, but fuck it! I am losing it!
