Chapter 72

I still feel proud of myself. Yesterday after I smacked the hell out of Sabrina, I knew that she's just a scared girl. Ofcourse, I didn't forget to tell Roxy and right now as we're having breakfast, she can't help but grin at me.
"I guess we've both changed. It's good that you're now standing up for yourself," Roxy says and immediately the door bell rings.
"Mom, could you get that please?" I yell, tapping my bowl of cereal with my spoon.
I can hear mom's footsteps to the front door and she opens it and...
"Oh, how lovely to see you Scott and who's your friend?" I hear mom say and Roxy stares at me. The only person mom doesn't know who'd be with Scott right now is Kye, because mom knows Tyler and Jim.
"Kye's here," I whisper and Roxy's eyes go wide and she hurriedly swallows down her cereal and gobbles down the remaining contents in her bowl, wiping her mouth with the back of her arm.
"How do I look? Am I okay? Is my hair fine?" she looks at the black hoodie she's wearing. "Yurgh! He can't see me in this hoodie. Gotta run!" and she takes off, back to my room.
"Since when did you start caring about what you're wearing?" I whisper while shrugging.
As soon as she leaves, my mom walks in followed by two fine-ass men. She looks tiny while standing in front of them.
"Hey Kye, it's been a while since I saw you. How have you been?" I ask and my mom frowns.
"I've been great, a little busy but I'm taking some days off," he says, his voice booming, I swear I can feel the room vibrate.
"Kye," mom say as she looks up to him, "Oh, so you two know each other. Why didn't anyone introduce me?" my mom complains.
"He's hardly around, Mrs Bailey," Scott says, standing next to me and rubbing my back and I smile.
"Where's Roxy?" Kye asks and right before I answer, she walks into the kitchen, in yet another black hoodie. I didn't see anything wrong with the other one though.
"Hey, big guy. Long time, no see," she says, leaning on the kitchen island. I hide a smile by looking away.
"Okay, it seems I'm the odd one out here. Since my husband is at work, I'll just go to the grocery store," she says walking past Kye. "Nice to meet you Kye."
"Nice to meet you too, Mrs Bailey," Kye says and Roxy licks her lips and I shove my elbow into her ribs.
"Calm down wild child," I whisper and Scott hears.
"Okay, both of you are acting weird," Scott says. "Oh, Mrs Bailey, before you leave, Kye and I needed to ask you something," Scott raises his voice.
Mom has already disappeared from the kitchen but she comes back as I take a spoonful of my cereal.
"Shoot your question," mom says.
"Kye and I wanted to know if you'd let Roxy and Kyrah come with us for a weekend getaway," Scott humbly speaks. Like a real gentleman. I know it sounds odd that he's asking permission from my mom, but I'm glad he did, because my mom is one strict human being. Especially now that Sabrina is out there doing God-knows-what, my mom has a close eye on me.
I almost choke on my cereal. I can tell Roxy didn't know about this too because her mouth is wide open. I leave my seat and stare at my mom, waiting for a "No!" but...
"Oh, that's okay, as long as you take care of my lovely girls. I'll just enjoy Snow's company while they're gone, my husband is always working."
My jaw drops.
"You're serious, right?" I ask, just to clarify everything.
She pauses, hands on her waist.
"Do you wanna go or not? Because you might as well stay here scrubbing Snow everyday and–" she begins.
"We're going!" Roxy and I respond in unison and she shrugs and walks away. We stay quiet until the front door slams shut and we squeak in excitement.
"A weekend getaway! Wow! This is amazing. Finally, a different kind of thing to do, school work was becoming boring," I say hugging Scott, my hands around his neck. He holds on to me tightly and doesn't let go until Roxy clears her throat.
"Vic can come right?" Roxy asks.
"He's coming, we left him in the house talking to Wren, I don't know if she'll agree to come or not," Scott replies and seconds later Vic walks into the kitchen with a broad smile.
"Tell me she's coming," I say
Vic raises his eyebrows twice, a sign that she agreed. "Yes! She's such an adorable girl, you two should date each other," I look away from him as I tap my bowl with a spoon.
"My baby brother is all grown up now, he's gonna get married one day and forget about me," Roxy complains.
"Aw! You two are so cute. Now let's stop wasting time, let's get packing! Pronto!" I pull Roxy away from Kye.
"We've already packed, it's only you ladies who have work to do," Kye says and I roll my eyes.
"How I wish you'd have given us a heads up. We'll be back when we're done packing. There's food in the fridge if anyone gets hungry," I say and pull Roxy with me all the way to my bedroom.
When we are done, we carry our stuff to the cars and we decide to ride in two's after Wren arrives. I'm riding with Scott as usual, Roxy with Kye and Vic with Wren, I haven't been driving my car that much so Vic's been driving around town and sometimes Roxy uses it too.
On our way there, as we drive along the long road, my favorite Wheatus song, 'Teenage Dirt Bag' comes on and surprisingly Scott loves it too and he sings it out loud before I join in on the chorus.
"Cause I'm just a teenage dirt bag, baby! Yeah I'm just a teenage dirt bag, baby! Listen to Iron Maiden, baby, with me, ooh," I sing along to the chorus and wait for Scott to jump in on the second verse.
"Her boyfriend's a dick. He brings a gun to school. And he'd simply kick my ass if he knew the truth. He lives on my block. And he drives an I-Roc..."
He says the name I-Roc loudly and it hits me, Blake drives an I-Roc. Goodness! Scott is referring to Blake, he's not just singing along. Even though Blake doesn't have a gun.
"Really Scott?" I chuckle but he continues.
"But he doesn't know who I am. And he doesn't give a damn about me. 'Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby..."
We sing along till the end of the song.
"Damn! I hadn't heard that jam in a really long time," I say as I chuckle.
"I love it, I literally listen to it every single evening. It has a really strong message," he says, staring ahead.
"Message? Uhmm... I hardly know the lyrics to the whole song, just the chorus, but I'm going to listen to it keenly now," I tell him and he turns to look at me for a second.
At this moment the city is far behind us and all I can see right now is grass. The air is fresh and my nostrils are tingly from the sweet smell of pure oxygen. The city is much contaminated if you ask me.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" I ask Scott and he looks away. He lowers his window down and the air blows his not-so-long hair.
"I figured you should know I love Country music–"
I cut him off.
"No way!" I gasp. "I love Country music too, play something right now," I say and he presses a button on the console and the entire mood changes when 'Take back home girl' by Chris Lane and Tori Kelly, comes on.
I roll my window down and stick my head out with one hand in the air.
"Woo-hoo! Yeah!" Scott yells as the song plays and I sing along loudly.
"You're a take back home, home, home girl. Home, home, home girl!" I yell at no one in particular. The song has literally taken over my entire being.
Scott speeds off as I scream outside the window.
"Sweet mother nature! Woo!"
