Chapter 84

Roxy's POV
"I can't take this anymore. Where could she be?" I complain. We've been searching all over for hours, my feet hurt but I am not going back without my best friend, no way!
Red is still leading the way and after every few minutes, I let him sniff Kyrah's jacket.
As we continue walking, Scott pauses.
"What?" I question, halting instantly and Wren bumps into me. Red has also stopped. Kye who is behind us moves to the front.
"He's got something," Scott says.
"He's sniffing the air, that's a good sign," Kye says.
I try sniffing too, I can smell smoke from afar.
"That way, someone must have lit a fire, I can only see it as a small fire, it's abit far, but we can try and run," Scott says. His expression is unreadable, but I know he would even die for Kyrah. I know he likes her, but I just don't want to ask him. He'll find the right time to tell her.
His veins on his temples are protruding fiercely and his eyes are wide open, same as Kye's.
"She's out here somewhere, we'll find her. I'm not resting till we do," Vic assures me and I feel motivated to keep going.
Without any warning, Red begins running and we follow suit. He's running extremely fast. Wren trips on something and lands with a thud behind me, Vic helps her up, by the time they get to us, they're both out of breath.
"This dog is freaking too fast!" I complain. "It's not like I'm signing up for a marathon tomorrow," I say as we come to a stop. Right in front of us is a house that's on fire, a huge fire and the flames are eating up the wooden house very fast.
Red spots someone running towards a car and he shoots towards them like a bullet. Kye, Vic and Scott run toward the car too.
"Is that a woman?" I ask in disbelief as she closes the door of the car, leaving part of her coat locked outside and Red clings on to it with his teeth as the vehicle speeds off at the speed of lightning.
"Red! Let go!" Kye shouts and seconds later the dog lets go and miraculously lands safely on the ground, stands on his feet and barks loudly at the vehicle as it disappears.
"What in the world was that about?" Wren asks.
"Did anyone see her face?" Vic asks.
"It's too dark to see anything, plus there's alot of smoke here," Kye says.
"Forget the lady, Kyrah must be in here. I can feel it. I'm going in," Scott says and nods at Kye who nods back.
"I'm going with you," I say and Kye disagrees.
"No way, it's too dangerous!" he says, "Vic, watch over Wren and your sister."
"Hell no! I am not going to stand here and watch both of you walk into that burning house. This is not a movie, we're not even sure she's in there!" I protest as I point at the burning house.
"I know she's in there!" Scott thunders, his eyes reflecting the fire and I quiet down. It would be easier to baptize a cat right now than convincing Scott to let me go in with them.
"Atleast, find some water and wet yourselves, to avoid catching fire fast," Wren says.
"She's right, it'll help, hopefully," Kye says, stopping Scott who was walking too close to the burning house. Close by, we spot a well and a bucket with a rope tied to it.
"Let's hope there's water, let me help," Vic says and throws the bucket into the well and we let out a sigh of relief when it hits the water at the bottom. Vic quickly pulls it up and pours the entire bucket on Kye and the next bucket of water he fetches, he pours on Scott.
At this moment my mind goes blank, completely! I can't think of anything else but what would happen when they go in there. So many questions are circling round and round in my head. Questions like: Is Kyrah in there? If so, is she alive? Will Kye and Scott walk out of there alive? Who's behind all this? Why Kyrah? What the fucking hell is going on!?
"Fuck! Wait!" I stop the two right before they walk in and pull them into a quick hug. "Come back out no matter what," I tell them and immediately, Scott walks in through the door, Kye follows and I swear, my internal organs feel like they're being twisted. I feel like I'm being stabbed right in the middle of my heart. I decide to hold hands with Vic, as we watch silently, not knowing what's happening in there. I close my eyes tightly and squeeze Vic's hand so hard I can tell he's uncomfortable.
"God, I don't want anybody to die, don't let me down, don't. Protect Kyrah, please, and Kye... Scott too," Vic silently prays as he squeezes my hand and Wren holds my other hand.
"Have faith," Wren tells me. I can see that she still remembers my religious side, we used to pray together whenever she had nightmares. It's weird... But it really helps.
"I have an idea, what if we try putting out the fire from outside?" Vic asks.
"I can't see any other vessel we can use to put out the fire, just that one bucket," Wren speaks as we all scan the area for anything to use.
"We'll use it, better half a loaf than none. Let's do this," I state and we move to the well and start fetching water, pouring around the house, one bucket at a time. It's not making a big difference but I am not backing down! Never!
