Chapter 13

At the large metal gate we find four guards fully dressed in their uniforms and with guns. They look unbothered by our presence. One of them is a lady who looks like she's in her mid thirties, her facial expression shows that she's probably tired of life or her job. Or even both.
Lazily she starts to speak right after removing a toothpick from her mouth.
"Identification please," her voice comes out rough. We show her our ID's and she takes them, placing the toothpick back in her mouth.
"Let them through," she yells at the guard with the keys to the gate and spits saliva on the ground. We head to the next gate which is much bigger. How many gates do they have here anyway?
Roxy walks ahead of us and a guard at the second gate recognises her.
"Long time no see woman, where have you been?" he asks, the word 'you' coming out as 'ju'. His Spanish accent is hilarious and I bite my lip not to laugh. He leans over to hug Roxy who dodges him and he almost falls. I giggle and he gives me a tough stare. Scott looks calm.
"Open it," Roxy says with a sense of authority.
The fucking prick is busy staring at Roxy's boobs while rubbing his belly.
"Open the fucking gate, Mateo!" Roxy shouts and the guard does as instructed. Roxy walks past him and pats his shoulder twice. I'm still not sure if I should speak or not but a few steps away from the guard I whisper to Roxy.
"How in the world did a prison guard just obey you like that? Does he know you?"
She keeps walking while smirking.
"Kyrah, don't worry about it, he just messes with me all the time and I lie that I'll go on a date with him one day,"
"When did you tell him that?" Scott frowns.
"Hmm... Not too long ago, just about... Three years ago I guess," she sighs.
"That's what I call never losing hope," Scott chuckles.
We all burst out laughing as we head to the visiting room. Roxy informs one of the guards that she wants to see Alicia Trent, her mother and the female guard walks away, to get her I assume.
We sit down on some weirdly arranged black chairs and wait for Roxy's mom. As I sit here I watch everything around me, from the gloomy and rough-faced guards to the other prisoners who are having conversations with their visitors. The place is not as noisy as I had expected it to be, or maybe it's because we aren't near the actual cells inside with metal bars for doors.
Moments later, the female guard returns with a bored look on her face.
"She's not coming to see me isn't she?" Roxy is up on her feet and walking straight towards the guard in large strides. The guard nods and Roxy grits her teeth and pulls her hair in immediate frustration. I can see that she's about to lose it any moment.
Scott and I stand up, trying to calm her down but she causes a scene when she tries opening the door which leads to the prisoners cells.
Hell breaks loose!
Roxy is yelling at the guards who are busy pulling her away from the door. Scott is yelling back at them to let her go but to no avail. I try telling Roxy to calm down but she won't, she's just throwing her legs up in the air while yelling and cursing at one specific guard who is staring at her with a smirk as she is being dragged away.
"Get the fuck off of me you morons! Let me at him!" Roxy screams and the guard starts laughing out loud and I cringe at his pathetic laugh.
"Can't you do something apart from standing there like a useless pole?" I ask and he notices me and his laughter fades instantly. He looks at me from head to toe
"Fresh meat. I've never seen you around here. Are you here with that psycho?" he asks.
"Fuck off," Scott jumps right in front of me and I blink fast. The guard looks at Scott and gasps. He looks terrified, It's either Scott's height or something else I don't know of.
What's happening?
Roxy is still struggling to escape from the hold of two male guards, biting and kicking them severally.
"My father is in the army, you'll pay for this you fucktard!" Roxy seethes in anger.
Really now? That so and so is in the army stunt won't work here. Not like it did at the airport.
"Oh really? The army of the dead or what? We all know your pathetic mother killed your father," the guard sneers.
"Fuck you!" Roxy's middle fingers are up in the air, unapologetically.
"You're welcome," he smirks at her.
"Are you kidding me right now? Stop this immediately!" Scott stomps his foot on the floor and the entire room goes silent. The rest of the people inside are staring at us and I tuck my hair behind my ear and clear my throat due to embarassment.
Scott walks over to the male guard who was teasing Roxy and leans in close to his face.
"If you know this face, you'd better not mess with Roxy when she comes here. Or anyone else for that matter," he growls and I am taken aback.
The guard goes stiff in shock, I have no idea why but I will find out. Scott starts walking towards the exit and Roxy and I follow suit.
Two steps closer to the door...
"Roxy! Come back here young lady!"
A voice calls and we pause to look back, Roxy's eyes pool up with tears and she starts walking slowly towards her mother.
Alicia looks very pretty, their resemblance is unmistakable. She is in an orange prison uniform, a long shirt and trousers with black shoes. She seems a bit weak to me but I choose to ignore that and watch as Roxy breaks down as they hug each other.
"Mom, why have you been ignoring me? Why? You called me and when I came to see you, you didn't show up. Why?" she sobs quietly. Scott and I watch from a distance in silence.
Alicia takes Roxy's cap off and unties her ponytail.
"I like your hair better when it's flowing down your shoulders, honey," she clears her throat and continues "I am sorry honey, but alot is happening to me that I can't allow you to see me. I came out here just because I was told that you were about to turn the whole damn place upside down... Have a seat dear."
They sit down but Scott and I remain standing and Alicia notices us.
