Ryan
When Annabelle started shifting nervously in her chair my gut told me I wasn’t going to like what I hear. I looked around and noticed several of my pack members that were sitting at our table went quiet and were looking anywhere but at me. Jesse wraps an arm around Annabelle’s shoulder. “ Belle, I know we just met so my word may not mean that much yet. But I believe Alpha Ryan just wants to know. He isn’t going to punish you for telling what you have seen. You know him better than I do and I know he is a man of his word.” he said. I see Annabelle relax a little. “ And if not I’ll have Lexi zap him.” Jesse laughed. That cause the table to relax more.
I have no doubt Lexi would send a pulse my way if I went back on my word. Annabelle takes a deep breath then looks at me. “ I honesty not sure how to answer your question. I have never interacted with her. Not many of us did. If we needed anything we went through her assistant. And until our queen came along I didn’t think anything about it. I thought it was normal. We never had dinners in the packhouse before when Luna Skyline was in charge. I don’t think she knew most people’s names like Luna Lexi does. Luna Skyline never made a point to talk to any of us. And definitely didn’t know about our lives. The kids knew to stay far away from Luna Skyline if they saw her.” Annabelle said.
I nod to encourage her to continue. “ Why did the kids stay away from the former Luna?” Luther asked. Ember one of my newer gammas answered “ Because the former Luna thought it was beneath her. She felt that way about anyone who wasn’t a beta or higher. And she couldn’t stand pups. If one got in her way she would yell at them saying they shouldn’t be seen until they were useful.” My mom was never the most affectionate towards me as a kid but I didn’t think she was mean. Then again I was going to useful to her in time.
The more I find out about Skyline the more I feel stupid for not noticing how bad she was. “ Alpha Ryan, don’t be hard on your self. None of us knew any different. We all thought it was normal. Not until Luna Lexi came and showed us.” Annabelle said. “ Would you say our pack is better since Lexi came along?” I asked. I wanted to know what the pack thought of her. I looked around “ That question is for anyone who wants to answer.” I said.
“ Definitely. Luna Lexi makes us feel like family. We feel like we could come to her for anything. Small or big. And she would hear us out. And you saw how she was with Patty. The kids love her.” Annabelle said. “ I mean no disrespect when I say this. I watched Luna Lexi when she first came here. I thought for sure she was putting on an act. You know make us think she was nice so we would accept her then show her true colors.” Ember said. I can’t blame her for doing that. Not after what my mom did.
Ivan another gamma chimed in “ It didn’t take long to figure out Lexi was different. Not just because she glows. When you look past all the extra strength, the glowing and her speed, to the person under it all, you see a person I would lay my life on the line for. Lexi is just a sweet person. And after I heard about how our world is new to her I gained another level of respect for her.” I saw a lot of people nodding their heads. Sam, Patty’s mom, came from the kitchen offering us coffee or tea. She laughs “ The poor child knows nothing about being a Luna. But it doesn’t stop her from trying. And asking questions. I know most of you have seen that notebook she carries around. I wouldn’t be surprised if she has had to replace it a few times.”
I have seen those notebooks Sam is talking about. Lexi has at least ten by now. She has them on both packs. “ Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying anything bad about Luna Lexi. I can say with my whole heart that her not having any idea about being a Luna is what is going to make her a great one. She has no preconceived notions on how she is supposed to be. So she is taking what little she does know and making it her own. And the pups adore her.” Sam said. “ I can’t wait to see what she does for our pack as she grows with us.” Ember said.
Luther has his chest puffed out in pride for our mate. I don’t blame him. And Strone is strutting around in my head. I just need to make somehting clear. “ So to make sure I’m understanding all of you. You are happy with the way Lexi is doing things despite the fact she has no clue what she is doing?” The entire room erupts in “ Yes, Alpha.” I hear Arya say “ My human is fabulous.” I have to hold back a laugh. Stone and Diesel don’t help when they say “ And so is her wolf.”
Patty comes running back in with a smiling and clean Lexi walking behind her. Patty runs up to me bouncing up and down. “ Alpha Ryan, Lexi says we can run with Arya tomorrow. Mommy says I can go. Will you and Alpha Luther comme with us?” Please?” Patty asks holding her hands together. That is another thing that is different. The pack accepting Luther as the second Alpha. It started with the kids calling Luther that and it caught on. Oh, I need to answer Patty. “ I would love to run with you. What about you Alpha Luther?” I asked. “ Going on a run. Count me in.”
Patty turn to the room “ Luna Lexi said anyone who wants to run can. You should come too.” Lexi walks up to Patty’s back and places her hands on Patty’s shoulders. “ She is right. I welcome anyone who wants to come.” Lexi said. Lexi looks around. “ I’m sorry I overheard your conversation. I wanted to say thank you for kind words. And what you said is true. I don’t know much about being a Luna. I am trying. And I have some wonderful teachers. But if see something I’m doing wrong or an area I can improve I want you to come up to me and tell me. I figure if we work together I will be the best Luna this and Luther’s pack need.” Lexi said.
Every single person in the room got up from their chairs and bowed to Lexi. She has earned thier love and respect.Just by being who she is. I have no doubt she is going to do great things. Not just for my pack but for others. Lexi bows back and asks everyone to stand. Then she comes over to sit on my lap. Something I can be sure my mother never did with my dad. They never showed affection for each other in front of anyone. Just another thing Lexi is adding to the pack. She is showing them how much she loves me and Luther. I wrap my arms around her and kiss her forehead as she leans against me. For tonight it will just be the three of us. The rest can wait. For at least one night. Hopefully we won't have any interruptions.
