Chapter 52

Aiden
When we pulled up at the Riverclaw pack house Luther, the Luna, Alpha and Lexi’s three guardians from here were waiting outside for us. Dad linked me just before we got here letting me know he had called ahead letting them know we were coming. Dad got out and helped mom while I helped Lexi. I barely had Lexi’s feet on the ground before Luther was running over snatching her up making Lexi wrap her legs around his waist. I stepped back and let them have their moment. Luther and his wolf needed it. I could tell by his face he didn’t handle being separated from Lexi very well. He has dark circles under his eyes and it looks like he didn’t sleep last night.

I watch Luther bury his head at the base of Lexi’s neck no doubt breathing in her scent. My parents go to greet Luther’s parents while we wait for Luther and Lexi. “ Baby, I’m so sorry about yesterday. I will make it up to you. And it will never happen again. I never meant to hurt you like that.” Luther says into Lexi’s neck. “ Luther, look at me. Please.” Lexi says. Luther lifts his head. His eyes are bloodshot and have tears in the corners.And he is fighting with his wolf. I can see the remorse in them. I feel bad for the guy. But I know Lexi won’t let him be miserable for long.

“ Luther and Diesel, we will talk about that more later. I promise. We have something a little more pressing to discuss. But I assure you, I’m not angry anymore.” Lexi said. Luther relaxed before my eyes. “ Let’s take this inside. The Elders are waiting for us in my office.” Alpha Riverclaw said. We all follow him and his Luna into the house. Lexi is trying to convince Luther to put her down but he refuses. When we get to the Alpha’s office he goes and sits in his leather chair behind his desk pulling his Luna on to his lap. Luther picks a two seater sofa and sits with Lexi in his lap. My parents take a seat on the other couch. All the guardians are standing. I’m about to take a chair when Lexi calls out “ Aiden.” I don’t hesitate and sit beside Luther and pull Lexi’s feet onto my lap.

“ Lexi, Alpha Cline said something happened this morning that you need to discuss with us.” Alpha said. Lexi nods. “ I was hoping you had some answers.” she said. One of the Elders, I forgot his name, steps forward “ Please tell us what happened.” After some wiggling Lexi stands. “ It is better if I show you.” she said. Lexi removes the scarf from her hair letting it fall down her back. Her solid red hair is now striped with oranges and yellows making it look like it is made of fire. Luther jumps up and lifts his hand to Lexi’s hair but never touches it like he is afraid. “ Baby, what happened?” he asks.

“ I don’t know. It wasn’t like this when I fell asleep. I noticed it after my shower and freaked out. I screamed so loud everyone came barging in the room. Then Alpha Cline thought it best to come here.” Lexi stated. “ Can you think of anything unusual that happened yesterday?” Alpha Riverclaw asked. “ You besides throwing that she-wolf against the wall without laying a finger on her? No. I left here and went to Aiden’s. I talked with Luna Calissa for a little while. Had a snack, watched some movies and fell asleep. A pretty uneventful night overall.” Lexi explained.

“ Lexi, I’m afraid at the present moment we don’t have any answers for you. I will go check the books to make sure. But Lexi I think just like with most things that pertains to you we are just going to have to wing it.” one Elder said. I need to make an effort to know these guys' names. Lexi sit’s back down this time between Luther and me, holding our hands. “ Thank you Elder Zander.” Lexi says. “ Lexi, may I offer some advice.” another one asks. “ Of course Elder Picard.” Lexi said. “ You are going through so many changes as you near your birthday. Some can be startling, sure. But none of them are going to harm you or anyone you care about. So just embrace them. Don’t let them frighten you.” Picard said. Lexi smiles at him, “ I will do my best.”

“ May I add something?” the Luna asks. “ Lexi nods. “ Lexi, you have done exceptionally well in all areas of your training. Including when a new ability shows itself you take it on like a champ. You haven’t known our ways but you are adapting. Try not to worry too much. I worry with all the training, school, getting ready to take on Valerosel and I heard you are considering going back to work to help pay for your meals and visits to the pack clinic. It is too much. You are going to burn out. We have your meals and visits covered. You need to enjoy your new world as a human and soon when you get your wolf. Go explore the pack lands. Spend time with your mates. Make friends. Relax. We are all here for questions and support. Lean on us.” Luna said.

“ I’ll do my best. I’m just trying to not let anyone down, Luna Christine.” Lexi said. “ You won’t let anyone down. I assure you.” Luna said. “ And stop trying to hide who you are.” my mom said. Lexi tilts her head. “ I don’t understand, Luna Calissa.” Lexi said. “ Your glow, strength and speed. It must take large amounts of energy to hide all that. Especially the glow. Don’t hide. Not around us. Just be who you are.” mom said. I never thought of what it was doing to Lexi to hide all that. It can’t be good for her body or her mind. Lexi looks around the room to see if anyone objects to what my mom said.

“ Are you sure?” Lexi asks. Everyone says yes. With that Lexi takes a deep breath and blows it out slowly relaxing as she goes.As soon as she lets all her air out her body begins to glow a light aquamarine including her eyes. “ How do you feel, Lexi?” Alpha Riverclaw asks. Lexi smiles at him. “ Lighter and less tense, Alpha Evan,” she said. My poor mate, thinking she had to hold herself back all the time was putting a strain on her. “ Good. Now I suggest you do what Calissa said. Take the day. Take Luther with you and go explore the pack.” Alpha said.

Before Lexi can answer, the door opens and an older man comes in. “ I hope I’m not interrupting. I heard my sweet girl was here.” he said. Lexi jumps up and runs to him in a flash squealing “ Grandpa.” The man picks her up and swings her around like a ragdoll making Lexi laugh. Luther leans over “ He is actually my grandpa. Lexi stole him.” That makes me laugh. We both watch Lexi talking to Luther’s grandpa. He hasn’t let her go since he walked in. Lexi gets him up to speed on everything that has happened. “ But seeing her light up when she is with him she can keep him. And as you can see just like everyone else he adores her.” Luther said.

I tuned back into Lexi when she asked “ So can we Luther? Take Aiden and go exploring.” I didn’t expect her to extend the invasion to me but I’ll take it so I can spend more time with Lexi. “ Of course we can. I have a few places I would like to show you. Aiden can come along if he would like.” Luther said. Lexi jumps up and down giggling and clapping before racing over to Luther and jumping in his lap. She kisses him on his cheeks saying “ Thank you.” over and over. Luther laughs and I can’t help myself, I do to. “ Go upstairs and get dressed into something comfortable for walking around. We will wait for you in the living room.” Luther says. Lexi runs for the door then stops “ Thank you everyone. I’ll see you later.” and she is gone.


“ Dad, did you need us for anything before we take Lexi out?” Luther asked. “ Alpha is shaking his head laughing. “ No son. You guys have fun. It is clear she needs this. And remember what we talked about.” Alpha said. “ Don’t worry. I have it covered.” Luther said. Luther bows to my parents and I bow to his before we leave. As we go down stairs Luther fills me in on what he talked about with his parents and making sure everyone knew Lexi was his mate. “ I agree but why are you telling me this?” I asked. “ Because you are Lexi’s other mate. We need to work together. I see Lexi. In my heart I don’t think she is going to go through with the rejection.” he said. I hope he is right. I can’t lose her now.
