Chapter 70

Lexi

As Evan and Luther told the rest of my story to Ryan, I looked at his Beta and Gamma. “ Gamma Isabelle, may I ask you a question?” She nods “ Of course.” “ How do you feel about being a guardian?” I asked. “ I don’t know much about it, I'm afraid. Up until I met you I thought it was a myth.” she answered. I’m going to assume it is the same for the Beta. “ I’ll have one of the Elders fill you in before you leave. It is supposed to be an honor to be chosen but I will give you a chance to turn the job down. I want people to want to guard me and not feel forced by the Goddess. It isn’t an easy job. I can be a pain in the ass. My powers go wonky from time to time. I have a strict diet I need to follow. I still go to school. I can be a lot on top of your normal pack duties. My guardians and a few elite warriors train harder than any others to make sure I’m safe. So make sure you listen to the Elders and figure out if this is what you really want. I won’t hold it against you if you decide not to do it.” I told them.

“ Lexi, you are hardly a pain in the ass.” Luther said. I was about to say something when Brenda pushed a rolling cart towards me. I jumped up and squealed “ Thank you, Brenda. They are going to love it.” On the cart were metal bowls of chunks of seared meat and rice. I grab the cart and make my way outside. “ Baby, wait. You know you can’t go by yourself.” Luther said. “ Have Dean come with me. My babies are waiting.” I whined. I didn’t like being kept from them.

“ Babies? You have pups?” Ryan asked with a growl. I turned to him and crossed my arms over my chest. “ Yes, Alpha Ryan. Even though I am a virgin and hadn’t touched a man until I met Luther. I have given birth.” I said sarcastically and rolled my eyes. “ Shit, right. Sorry. I promise to work on thinking before I open my mouth.” Ryan says. “ You better. I don’t put up with bullshit.” I said. I look over at Luther “ Now that that is done can I go now, please.” I asked sweetly. I could go by myself but I humor Luther so he doesn’t worry. Evan gets up “ Come on Lexi. I will take you. Alpha Ryan you should come along. You want to get to know your mate. Come watch her work.” With that I’m out the door not even checking to see if anyone is behind me.

I push the cart towards the cages and can already hear howls. Yep, the wild wolves are my babies. All ten of them have names and know my scent. When I’m standing in front of the cages I wait for Luther and the others. When they are in place I go from one cage to another giving my babies their food, checking their water and giving them belly scratches. “ Are those wild wolves?” Tyler asks. “ Yes, and they were just like the ones you were telling me about. They were spelled. We believe they were to search out Lexi and kill her. These wolves are from a second attempt.” Evan said. “ But they don’t have red eyes or look rabid like the ones we have seen.” Isabelle said.

“ Not anymore thanks to Lexi and a witch friend of ours.” Luther said. “ What did Lexi do? And should she be that close to them?” Ryan asked. At least he asked instead of demanded. “ Lexi, is fine with them. Just watch.” Luther said. Evan explained that with my help we captured the wolves. I worked with them everyday to calm them and used some of my energy to pull a little of the spell out of them and the witch did the rest. While they talk I get to the last cage and my little guy is already sitting waiting for me.

I open his cage “ Come here Vinny. I got something for you.” he comes out of his cage and sits at my feet where I placed his bowl. “ Eat up, we can play.” I said. “ Wow, they listen to her.” I heard Tyler say. “ You haven’t seen anything yet.” Luther chuckled. I ignored them and focused on my buddy in front of me. This was my time to be somewhat normal. I sat on the ground and waited for Vinny to finish eating. Don’t ask where I came up with the names for these guys. I have three girls here. Ariel, Carmen and Jennette. The seven boys are Mitch, Raf, Carl, Vice,Manny, Sledge, and Vinny. Luther thought it was funny that I named them when we would eventually set them free but I felt like I would always recognize them and them me.

When Vinny licked his bowl clean I laughed when he was looking for more. “ Sorry buddy. That is all for now.” I told him. He lets out a little whimper. This guy is always hungry. Given how I found them I’m not surprised. “ I will bring you some more later.” I promised. “ Do I get a thank you?” I asked Vinny. Vinny sits on his hind legs in front of me and lifts his front paws off the ground. “ Easy, Alpha. Rule one when dealing with Lexi is to trust that she knows what she is doing.” Luther said. Vinny, paying them no mind, placed his paws on my shoulders and laid his head in my neck. I scratched his back and hummed to him. He loves it when I do this.

“ Aww, he is hugging her.” Isabelle said. “ Keep watching. It gets better.” Scott chuckles. As they talk I hum and feel Vinny’s back legs start to give he is so relaxed. I reach out under him and place him on my lap. “ That’s my good boy. Just rest.” I murmured. Vinny goes limp in my arms, falling asleep. I know my other wolves are doing the same. Everytime I hummed to them they went to sleep. The vet we had look them over said plenty of food and rest will help them recover. I like to think my attention to them helps as well.

Once I was sure Vinny was thoroughly sleeping I carefully stood up with him in my arms and placed him back in his cage, then locked it. I turn around and see Isabelle, Tyler, and Ryan’s mouths are hanging open. No doubt in shock at what they had just witnessed. This is nothing compared to the other things I can do. “ Shall we talk with the Elders now?” I asked. “ Or do you need to go back to your pack?” I wasn't sure what Ryan needed to do or how soon he needed to return. I know the basics of packs now but I don't know anything about his pack or how he runs it. I don’t know if he is a good Alpha.

“ And if I’m going to accept being your mate I need to visit your pack. I need to see what kind of Alpha you truly are. And I won’t take your word for it. I need to see for myself.” I told Ryan. I encourage them to walk with me to the packhouse. While we walk I continue to talk. “ Since I have accepted who I am I take my job very seriously. I refuse to let the Goddess down. I know she has faith in me and I have faith in myself. I need a mate that does as well. I will have faith in my mates unless they prove me wrong. It is my job to untie these packs. As I do that I will remove the tyrant ones. The ones that rule by fear,abuse and pain.”


When we get inside I see Christine is waiting for us. I walk up and hug her. “ Lexi,I knew you would be out with the pups. How are they?” she asks as she wipes grass from my pants. “ They loved their lunch and are napping soundly.” I said with pride. She laughs “ That is good to hear. I’m sorry to interrupt but you have visitors my dear.” she said. I cock my head “ Visitors?” Before Christine can respond I hear “ You didn’t forget us already, did you?” I turn and see Jesse, Jackson and Melissa standing at the kitchen entryway. I squeal and jump at them Jesse catching me.

Jesse wraps his arms around me and holds me tight to his chest. “ I have missed you.” I murmur into his chest. I feel two more sets of arms around me and know Jesse and Melissa have joined our hug. “ We have missed you too,my queen.” Melissa sniffles. I hear a growl and know it is Ryan. Possessive much. Jesse looks over my head “ Who the hell are you?” I tap Jesse’s chest “ Easy. Put me down and I’ll explain.” Jesse carefully sets me back on my feet and I turn to Ryan.

“ Alpha Ryan if you would stop growling. I would like to introduce you to Jesse, Jackson, and Melissa. My previous guardians.” I said. “ Guys, this is Alpha Ryan, my possible new mate. His Beta Tyler and Gamma Isabelle.” I told them. “ If, you, Tyler and Isabelle want to know what your potential jobs will be like, these three.” I say pointing to Jesse and the rest. “ They have been with me from the start of this adventure. They were by my side when I found out who I am. And they have been there for me ever since.They can tell you working with me is no picnic.” I said.
“ Until recently we were her guardians.” Melissa said. “ What did you mean until recently?” Tyler asked. “ Because Aiden couldn’t keep his dick in his pants we lost our jobs.” Jackson growled. I place my hand on his arm and send a calming aura to him. Jesse explained that my guardians are tied to the pack my mates are in and because of the rejection they lost their status.
