Chapter 78

Lexi

The bullshit with Ryan’s mom ruined my day. I knew I wasn’t always going to be accepted but she didn’t have to be a bitch about it. Ryan’s dad had been awesome. After we talked to the Elders and got them up to speed we all went to try to explain everything to Skylyn. Even with the Elders backing me up she still wasn’t believing any of us. I had enough so I used my powerful voice that Luther tells me is my wolf coming forward and I forced her to tell the truth. Turns out she didn’t want me as Ryan’s mate because she made a deal with another pack for Ryan to mate with the Beta’s daughter from a small pack in lower Michigan. She wanted Ryan to give up on a second chance mate and pick a chosen mate. The one she picked for him.

Ryan was pissed but Kent was furious for many reasons. You see I don’t have a handle on my power. I only wanted her to tell us why she hated me so much. We found that out and so much more. I found out that Kent and Skylyn are chosen mates. Ryan knew this because Kent and Skylyn’s mates had died. Turns out Kent’s mate did die. Skylyn rejected her mate because he was a Gamma and she thought she deserved better. Kent and Skylyn had grown up together and she knew his mate had died so she used it to get closer to him so she could be Luna.


And she thought I wasn’t good enough for her son. She is a piece of work. Luther and I decided to stay with Ryan that night. Well, I did and I knew Luther was going to stay by my side.I felt Ryan needed me. And that is what mates do right. Be there for each other. Just like a regular relationship. We just shift to wolves. We had dinner, and went to Ryan’s room to watch movies. I cuddled up with Ryan because I could feel he needed it. I didn’t push him to talk. I figured he would when. Luther cuddled up to me on the other side. That was how we woke up this morning. I would have stayed to help Ryan and get to know the pack more but I had to get back to Luther’s pack.

That is where I am now. I had classes this morning and now I’m in Christine’s office with Calissa for my final dress fitting. Yes, even though I am no longer mated to her son she is here supporting me. She loves me that much. “ You already look stunning, Lexi. I can’t wait to see you all dolled up on your birthday. You are going to have every males attention.” Calissa says proudly. “ And a few women, I’m sure.” Christine giggles. They make me blush from the attention.

“ The only attention I want is my mates.” I said. “ As you should. Your mates are lucky men and will be the envy of everyone at the party.” Calissa said. Christine and the seamstress help me out of my dress. I quickly get dressed in shorts and a tee-shirt. Lazy wear. I have been staying warmer lately so the cold doesn’t bother me as much. At least inside. I still dress for the colder weather when I go outside. When I’m done I sit beside Calissa. I take her hands “ Calissa, we haven’t talked much since that happened with Aiden. How are you feeling? I appreciate your help but you don’t have to be here if it bothers you.” I told her.

Calissa squeezes my hands “ I’m here because I want to be. I am going to support you and be here for you. Am I upset about everything that went down? Yes. But not at you. I respect the choice you made rejecting my cheating son. I still care about you. In my eyes you are still my daughter. What my son did isn’t going to change that. At least not for me.” I can’t stop myself, I pull my hands away and wrap my arms around her waist. I lay my head on her shoulder and hold her close. This is what I remember a mother’s love feels like. I have missed it. “ Thank you Calissa.” I said as I pulled back.

“ Besides I will be able to rub it in Aiden’s face how well you are doing without him.” Calissa laughs. I gasp ast her. “ What? Just because he is my son doesn’t mean I don’t want him to suffer a little. The boy needs to learn a lesson. And when he sees you at your party. He is going to lose his shit and I’m going to love watching him.” Calissa said. Christine and I burst out laughing. We are interrupted by a knock on the door. Freya pokes her head in “ Sorry to interrupt Lunas but Queen Lexi has some visitors.”

I wasn’t expecting anyone so I’m at a loss. I shrug my shoulders at Calissa and Christine. “ Let them in Freya. I’m curious.” Christine said. I’m not worried because if they got past Freya they can’t mean any harm. Freya opens the door and in walks Tyler, Ryan, Isabelle and Kent. I wasn't expecting to see Ryan until tomorrow so this is a pleasant surprise. But I’m confused as to why they are all here.

“ Ryan, not that I’m not happy to see you but what are you doing here?” I asked getting up from the couch. Before he can respond Christina asks “ Lexi, aren’t you going to introduce us to your new friends?” “ Luna Christine, Luna Calissa, this is Former Alpha Kent.” I said point to him. Then I point to Ryan, smile and hold out my hand for him, “ This is Alpha Ryan, my second chance mate. His Beta Tyler and Gamma Isabelle. My new guardians.” Calissa and Christine come over to us. This could be awkward for Calissa. She holds her hand out to Ryan first “ It is a pleasure to meet you, Alpha Ryan. You may be an Alpha but I will give you a warning. Don’t hurt Lexi like my son did or I will come after you.” I see the shocked look on Ryan’s face.

“ Ryan, babe. Luna Calissa is the Luna of Aspen Rain.” I said. Ryan shakes Calissa's hand and says “ I assure you, I will cherish my queen.” Calissa smiles at Ryan, “ Good boy.” Calissa winks at me “ He’s cute.” I giggle. I’m not going to correct her and tell her he is hot and not cute. Everyone shakes hands. “ I’m sorry if we are intruding but I was hoping I could have a few minutes with Lexi.” Kent asks. “ And we were hoping we could speak with your Elders to find out more about Lexi. We are also curious about your elite team. Lexi mentioned them yesterday.”

“ Freya can take you to the training field. When you are done I can gather a few Elders for you. I will have them prepare all the information you need.” Christine said. “ Alpha Ryan, you and your father are welcome to use my office or Lexi can take you to the kitchen. It is time for her snack.” she added. “ Christine, do you think you could ask someone to send something up? I get the feeling we may need some privacy.” I asked. Christine nods “ Of course.” Christine and Calissa leave us alone after Freya escorts Isabelle and Tyler out.

I wave my hands at the chairs “ Please have a seat.” Ryan takes a seat on the couch, grabs me and places me in his lap. He sticks his nose in my neck and inhales. Kent sits in a chair across from us. “ I missed you.” Ryan said. I lean into him loving the sparks. They are so much stronger than anything I felt with Aiden. “ Missed you too.” I said. Kent cleared his throat. Right, he asked to talk. I can have alone time with Ryan later.

“ Sorry, you said you wanted to talk former Alpha Kent.” I said. “ Don’t worry about it. But yes. And there is no need to be formal. You can call me Kent. In time if I have earned it, you can call me dad.” Kent said. “ Thank you Kent. What did you want to talk to me about?” I asked. “ I wanted to apologize for my mate and beg for your forgiveness. I swear I had no idea what she was up to. Or that she rejected her mate to be Luna. I never thought she would be so power hungry. I don’t want you to take her actions as to how we are. I am a full supporter of the mate bond and want nothing but the best for my son.” Kent said. He was about to go on but I stopped him.

“ Kent, I don’t hold her actions against you or Ryan or the pack for that matter. It is wrong to judge a group by one person. It was clear she had acted alone. So there is no need for forgiveness. You have done nothing wrong. I just ask that you support Ryan and I. And as strange as it might be I will need you to at least accept Luther as my other mate. I have to prepare the packs for a nasty war and can have infighting. And to be honest I’m going to need all the help I can get when the time comes to unite the packs.” I said. “ I understand and you will have my full support. In everything.” Kent said. “ Good, now let’s have a snack and then I will find Luther and we will show you around.” I said, happy that the meeting went well.
