Chapter 138
Ryan
After we got dressed we rushed back to the room where Luther had been put. I knew Luther would be fine and so did Lexi after talking with Deisel. But she needs to see for herself. The last she saw him, he was covered in blood and passed out. When Lexi sees him with her own eyes she will feel better. How do I know this? Because not only do I feel it from Lexi through our bond but I feel it myself. I love Luther. Not in a sexual way. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It is just not for me. I love him a little more than a brother but less than being in love with him. That is the best way I can describe it. The point is I need to see him with my own eyes to know he is going to be alright.
When we get to the room we see Calissa and Henry talking to a man I recognize from early. I think Lexi called him Thorp. Lexi races up to him. I can feel the panic coming from her. Everyone can. The man turns to Lexi and says “ Breath my queen.” “ How is he? How is our mate?” Lexi asks quickly. “ He is doing fine. He is resting. We stopped the bleeding and cleaned out his wounds thoroughly to make sure there was nothing in the wounds. We swabbed them and I sent them to the lab to check for toxins or poisons. Just to be safe. We applied a bandage to protect it. Luther’s wolf healing has already kicked in and is closing the wound. The claws went in pretty deep so it is going to take some time for him to heal completely.” Thorp told us.
Lexi grabbed my hand and squeezed it. I squeezed it back letting her know I was there and not going anywhere. “ But he is going to be alright. No lasting damage?” I asked. “ Yes, Luther will be fine in a few days. And no there will be no lasting damage. The claws didn’t go deep enough to hit anything vital.” Thorp said. Lexi leans into me and I look up sending a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess. “ Can we see him?” Lexi asks. Thorp smiled “ Of course. We will give you some privacy.” He holds open the for us to go in. Lexi takes one step then stops. “ Honey?” I feel her being torn by something. Lexi looks into the room and then back towards the hallway. “ I need to check on the warriors,” Lexi said.
Calissa stepped up and places her hands on Lexi’s arms. “ Go be with your mate. Both of you. I promise the warriors will understand.” she said. “ Go before I push your ass in that room. I checked myself and we are all fine and most of us had minor scratches that have already healed. I personally would be upset if you came to check on me before your mate. We got this go.” Melissa said from beside us. When did she sneak up on us? Lexi leans over to kiss Melissa’s cheek and whispers “Thank you.” Melissa’s reply is to shove us into the room that Luther is laying in.
The lights were dim but we could still see the room. Luther is the only one in the room. They had him in a hospital bed angled so he isn’t laying flat. He is shirtless and I can see they cleaned the blood off of him the best they could. He looks like he is sleeping peacefully. He didn’t look like he was in any pain. We should have asked. But I don’t feel anything through the bond either. Just some discomfort. Not like when he was first hurt. I felt it. I know Lexi did too.
Lexi squeezed my hand once before letting go. She walk to the side of the bed and carefully climbed in beside Luther on his none wounded side. She laid on her side wrapping her arm around his waist and cuddling up to him. I grabbed a chair and went and sat on the other side of him. Lexi turned the hand she had on Luther’s waist up and called out to me. “ Ryan,” she said. I knew what she wanted so I placed my hand in hers. Lexi laid her head on Luther’s chest as close to his heart as she could get. Lexi closes her hand around mine linking our fingers together, then shuts her eyes.
“ We are here honey. Just rest as long as you need to. Then we will go home and I will take care of you.” Lexi said. She pushed out some of her calming glow to surround us. “ Maybe, I’ll even get one of those naughty nurse costumes. I’ll have to give you a sponge bath. Of course, I would have to be diligent to make sure I didn’t miss a single spot.” Lexi giggled. Stone playfully growls a little at that. “ It seems Ryan may play injured so he can get a sponge bath too.” Lexi chuckled. “ Damn straight.” I chuckled. “ But serioisuly man. Rest as long as you need. I’ll watch over our girl.” I told him. We talked for a while about nothing. Just letting Luther hear our voices. Lexi called his parents to let them know what happened. They are arranging to have Luther transported back to his pack. Turned out Calissa had called while we were in the shower and they are working together. Calissa knew Lexi would be stressed about Luther and wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of so she decided to lighten Lexi’s load.
I’m sure when Lexi figures it out she will thank Calissa in some over-the-top way. I noticed Lexi yawning as we talked with Luther. It wasn’t long before she was relaxed enough to sleep. While she slept I had a talk with Luther. “ Hey, man. You need to wake up soon. You scared the shit out of both of us. You should have seen her when we were in the shower. I swear I could see a physical weight on her shoulders. She wasn’t her usual playful self. Just washed and got out.” I told him.
I check to see that Lexi was still sleeping. “ I mean it, man. You can’t scare us like that again. Lexi may not say it but she feels it. I’ll say it. We can’t do this without you. I don’t want to even try. Lexi would say the same. And I’m not dealing with Valerose by myself. I need you to have my back while we figure out what the deal is with him. If he is Lexi’s other mate, I need you with me. If something happens to you, you knew Lexi will get a third chance mate and I don’t want to deal with someone new. So heal up and never pull that shit again.” I informed him. I could hear the cracking in my voice.
My eyes were watering but I refused to let any tears fall. If Lexi can keep it together so can I.“ I love you too, man. Now shut the fuck up so I can rest.” Luther groaned. I damn near fell out of my seat when he talked. I looked up and Luther had his eyes half open looking at me. I noticed he had put his arm around Lexi’s waist and was holding her tight. “ Fuck, man. Thank Goddess you are awake.” I said. Luther slowly reached out a hand to me. I grabbed it and held it for a minute before I placed it on the hand Lexi had on his chest. Like on instinct, she grabbed it.
“ It going to take more than some punk vamp to take me out. It just slowed me down a little.” Luther said. " Yeah, man. I know." I told him.
