Chapter 98

Ryan

When I got the link from Isabelle I dropped everything I was working on with my dad. We were checking the boundaries between mine and Luther’s land. We had discussed Lexi’s idea and decided to see if it was doable. I left everything with my dad and headed to Luther’s packhouse. By the time I got there Lexi was already there in the kitchen having her snack. I ran up to her and wrapped my arms around her from behind. Lexi leaned in to me. I felt Arya purr against my chest. Between the purr and Lexi’s scent it helped Stone and I relax. A little.

“ I’m fine,Ry. And Stone. It was all just a precaution.” Lexi said. I look over at Luther. “ Our warriors are still checking it out. We will know more when they get here.” he said. Luther and Lexi explained that Arya said they were being watched which set everyone on alert. I held Lexi while she finished her snack. I just couldn’t let her go. Luther was having the same problem. He was glued to Lexi’s side feeding her.

Fifteen minutes later all the warriors came in followed by Isabelle, Jesse, Jackson and Melissa. Lexi jumps up. “ Is everyone alright?” she asked. “ Yes, my queen. We just followed. We didn’t engage.” Kyle said. He is a head warrior, why did he go on what was basically a scouting mission? As if he could hear my thoughts Kyle looks at me and says “ When I heard the queen might be in danger I volunteered.” I just nod. His answer doesn’t surprise me. Everyone here is extremely protective of Lexi. I would be shocked if all the warriors went out just to make sure Lexi was safe. My warriors feel the same way.

“ Let’s go to the living room and you tell us what you found out.” Luther said. We all walked into the living room. Luther and I on Lexi’s sides with an arm around her waist. So my arm was touching his. It didn’t bother me or make me have a sudden attraction to him. I see Alpha Evan coming down the hall to join us. Luther led Lexi and me to the love seat making Lexi sit on his lap and her legs across me. Jesse starts “ I picked up a scent that was similar to the guys Lexi mentioned a few weeks back and followed it. It took me to the east side of campus.”

“ I picked up a similar scent on the south side of campus.” Jackson said. “ I followed a guy towards the English Lit buildings. He was almost as fast as Lexi. I was able to get a picture of the guy.” he said. He handed his phone to Lexi. “ Do you recognise him?” Jackson asked. Lexi looks at it and shakes her head. “ No,he wasn’t one of the two men I met.” she said. “ I caught an odd scent near the coffee cart Lexi goes to between classes. And near Standish’s class.” Melissa said.

“ I checked it out as well and it is the same scent as the guys that came to campus. And I swear I have seen one of them on campus a few times.” Jackson said. “ When we regrouped several noticed the scents were strongest in all the areas Lexi frequents.” Kyle said. “ So what does all this mean?” Lexi asked. I look at all the warriors then to Luther. We all have the same idea. The question is who is going to tell Lexi. “ Someone tell me what is going on. Please.” Lexi pleads.

Melissa gets up and kneels in front of Lexi. Melissa takes Lexi’s hand and looks her in the eyes. “ Lexi, we believe the scents and man that was seen was a vampire. And we think it was more than one. They know where to find you and are scoping out the school.” “ Okay, but why. For what purpose?” Lexi asked. “ Our best guess. They are looking for a way to get to you, Lexi. Since they haven’t outright attacked, we think they are looking for a way to kidnap you.” Kyle said. Lexi nods, takes her legs off me and stands.

Her glow goes out in pulses in different ranges of color as she begins to pace. I move to stand. I want to comfort her. But Luther stops me. I give him ‘a what the hell look’. He links me “ Chill. Pacing helps her think, or process. She did the same thing when she found out about the prophecy and shifters. I don’t know why it helps her but it does.” I nod and watch Lexi. There is still so much I don’t know about her. But so far we haven’t been put in a situation where I would see her do something like this.

“ They haven’t attacked or sent out more wild wolves. So have they given up trying to kill me?” Lexi asked,But I don’t think the question is directed at anyone. More like she is thinking out loud. “ None of these newcomers have approached me either. Why?” “ Why are they watching me? What are they looking for?” Lexi asked. She just keeps asking questions that no one is answering. “ Arya is watching and she says Lexi’s mind is all over the place. Like she is working a puzzle.” Stone said.

“ My powers have strengthened so killing me wouldn’t be easy. I have proved that already. I always have my guards with me so trying to attack with so few people would be stupid. So that leaves kidnapping. But for what? If Valerose wanted me dead he would have sent an army by now.” Lexi says as she continues to pace. I can see where she is going. Everything she has said is correct and she is asking the right questions.

It is definitely interesting to see how her mind works. “ He knows I can take him out with my powers. So kidnapping me would be dangerous for them. Unless they have a way to mute my powers. Even for a short time. Does he want to try to take my powers? Is that even possible? Or is he going to try to use my powers for himself? Convince me to go to his side, maybe?” Lexi asked.

I could see everyones wheels turning as Lexi asked question after question. Hell, so where mine. Lexi suddenly stops. “ Evan, could you ask Patrice if muting my powers is possible?” she asks. Patrice is the witch that has been working with Lexi to heal the wolves. “ And find out if brainwashing me is possible. Or if heaving Arya and my powers could prevent that from happening.” she asks. I see Evan pull out his phone and get up leaving the room.

I watch Lexi’s eyes glaze over. “ Arya is trying to get Lexi to calm her mind.” Stone told me. “ Warriors, guardians, thank you for your diligence in your search and for keeping me safe. Arya has advised me to talk to mother. She agrees with me that Valerose’s goal may have changed. So that is what I’m going to do. Who better to help us understand than the Goddess. If you come up with any ideas while I’m out please approach Evan,Luther or Ryan. I will call a meeting when I know more. So go rest, get something to eat, spend time with those who are important to you.” she said as she sent out a warm pulse to all of them.

She turns to me and Luther “ I'm going to go lay down and try to form a connection to mother. Do either of you want to join me? If you have other work to do I understand. This could take a while.” Luther linked me “ You really want to see this.” “ I’m staying at your side.” I told her. Luther just nodded as he got up. We head to Luther’s room. I can’t wait to get Lexi back to my packhouse tonight. She will be far away from the university even if it is just for the weekend. And I know she will be safe.
