Two hours sitting with the Riverclaw Elders telling me everything this is to know about Lexi and the prophecy. Then the pack doctor came in and explained Lexi’s diet and physical changes she has or will experience as her body prepares for her wolf. Not going to lie, it was a lot to take in. I think Lexi thought it would scare me away. But that didn’t happen. I wasn’t going to lose my second chance. Lexi knows that if I reject her, or her me she has another mate waiting. I don’t think I will get a third chance. It is rare to get a second chance but a third is unheard of.
I’m just going to have to prove myself worthy of Lexi. She was burnt but Aiden and is now a little gun shy sorta speak. After talking with the Elders, Lexi changed out of her form fitting yoga pants. As much as I hate to see the pants go because damn I loved the way they molded to her ass, I’m glad she did. I didn’t want the unmated wolves at my pack looking at her ass. That ass is for me and Luther no one else. And Stone agrees with me. And that is where we are headed.
We all loaded in my car with Luther tagging along. Not that I suspected he would stay behind while I took our mate to an unknown territory. And I need to work with him if we are going to be mates that Lexi needs. And I respect him more for not fully trusting me with Lexi. My Beta and Gamma are sitting in and I’m sitting in the back with Luther, Lexi between us. We have plenty of room for all of us but I make sure to have Lexi glued to my side. It has been years since I felt the mate bond sparks so now I want to feel them every chance I get.
“ So how far is your pack?” Lexi asks. She is holding Luther’s hand but has her arm firmly pressed against mine. I’m not sure if I should grab her hand or let her make the first move. “ It is about an hour and a half drive. So get comfortable.” I said. “ Since it is going to take awhile, tell me about your pack.” Lexi said with a yawn. I chuckle at how cute it is. “ Baby, why don’t you rest a bit before we get there. I’m sure Alpha Ryan will let you use his shoulder as a pillow.” Luther chuckles. Lexi is already leaning towards me. I place my arm around her shoulder,placing my hand on her head and guiding her down.
I watch as Lexi forces her eyes open and looks at me then Luther. Luther smiles “ It’s alright baby. Rest. Alpha Ryan and I will use your nap to get to know each other.” Lexi looks up at me. “ He is right, sweetpea. We will be fine.” I told her as I watched her eyes droop. She yawns “ No, sweetpea. Only grandpa calls me sweetpea.” I see Luther shake his head. I am about to ask Lexi what she means when I notice she is asleep. “ That was fast.” I said to no one in particular. “ Yea if she overdoes her powers she gets tired fast. The doctor said it should get better soon as her body adapts.” Luther said.
“ There's so much to learn about her.” I said. “ We are in this together since you are sticking around, ask what you want. I’ll either answer you or tell you to ask her.” Luther informed me. “ Can you explain the grandpa comment? I thought all her relatives were dead.” I asked. Luther nods “ Yea, her whole family is gone. Grandpa is actually my grandpa. I joke that she stole him. Since the moment he met her he acted like a star-stuck kid. But he loves her. And he gives her something she never really had. Same with my parents. Lexi has been without family for a while. So they all dote on her. And it is more than her being the prophecy child. Even if she was a regular mate my family would love her.”
I’m sure my family will be the same way. I already texted them and they should be at the pack when we get there. All I told them was that I found my second chance mate. Boy are they in for a shock. “ You have been with Lexi since you met her. Tell me something about her.” I said. Luther smiles “ I have loved her from the moment I saw her.” He tells me he was out in his wolf when he scented her. At first he thought she was human but that wasn’t going to stop him from claiming her. I agree with him when he said who are we to think we know better than the Goddess. She has reasons for everything she does. I don’t understand her plan with Aiden.
Lexi cuddles into my side. I wrap my arm around her tighter. “ I hope you like cuddling. Lexi loves it and will do it every chance she gets. I will tell you some things about Lexi but the rest I’m going to let you figure out on your own. That is part of the fun of having a mate.” Luther said. He has a point. I need to get to know my mate on my own. And I want to learn her likes and dislikes on my own. I want to run my hands over her to find out if she is ticklish. I want to know what makes her smile and laugh. Having Luther tell me all about Lexi is like getting a reward without doing the work to earn it. Not as rewarding.
“ Tell me a few things.” I said. Luther tells me a few ways her last mate screwed up. Besides thinking he could cheat and not be caught. He tells me never to underestimate Lexi even if she does. Never try to order her around. Make suggestions, yes, but never order. Have trust in her so she will have trust in herself. She relies on us for support to help her get through this. He says if she is unsure she will turn to one of us. It is her instinct. Even if she doesn’t realize it. It is the mate bond. She is learning about and trying to understand her feelings. As well as processing everything about her new world , working on her powers, going to school she can be overwhelmed and will turn to us.
Then he gives me a few tips about Lexi. One thing is that she is a hugger. I’m going to have to get used to it. Once you are her friend she is going to hug you, no matter age or rank. She won’t change that just to make us happy. And I don’t want her to change who she is. Luther won’t give me intimate details about Lexi like how she likes to be kissed. Luther tells me about her favorite foods. The shortlist is the things she doesn’t like. She isn’t a picky eater. He tells me about their first date to a coffee shop. And how Lexi is a simple girl. She doesn’t care about money or in our case title. Lexi is the kind of mate I have always wanted.
