Chapter 50

Luther

I can’t believe what happened last night. I should have done more than I did. I should have pushed Carry away. I should have told her I was with my mate. I should have ordered her to stop touching me. Anything would have been better than what I did which was pretty much nothing. Lexi shouldn’t have had to stand up and get the bitch to back off. And the shit Carry was spouting on about. She was the future Luna. What the fuck? I never said that. Yes, we had a fling when we were teens. But it never meant anything. And I never promised her anything. The Luna spot was always going to my mate. I couldn’t believe what Carry had said when Lexi made her tell the truth. How had dad and I not seen that was going on? I know dad feels bad about it. He is launching a full investigation. He is going to make sure Carry is punished. And there is a long list of her crimes.

Starting with attacking the future Luna. That is punishable by death if the Luna decides. Normally the Alpha makes all the choices for punishment unless the crime is against the present or future Luna. Then the Luna has the choice to pick. And I don’t think Lexi will pick death. She doesn’t have it in her. Unless it was a matter of her life and the other person’s. But nothing compared to the way Lexi looked at me when Carry was calling me ‘baby’ and begging me to defend her. She looked so heart broken. I had promised I would never hurt her and I did. Having another female touch me in front of my mate was extremely disrespectful. I would have ripped the arms off a guy had he done that to Lexi. Aiden being the exception.

So I don’t blame Lexi’s wolf for coming forward. And the way my friends looked at me like I was the lowest being on this planet. That hurt too. Diesel was whimpering and whining to reach out to Lexi. When Lexi said she didn’t want to stay with me tonight I felt my heart shatter a little. I know she would need time. And she said she would be back today. And I trust her words. But the idea of not having her in my arms was too much. I have had Lexi sleeping in my arms every night since she was released from Aiden’s pack hospital. I didn’t like the idea of not having her by my side. But I know she will be safe with Aiden.

After Lexi left I knew I wasn’t going to be any good to anyone so I thought it best to let Diesel out for a while. Then I would talk to my parents. As soon as we got to the backyard Diesel took over. He didn’t even wait for me to get my clothes off. Just tore them to shreds as he shifted. I took the back seat and let him run. He ran until he got to a cliff overlooking the pack lands. Once he got there he climbed to the top, sat down and let out a mournful howl. He missed his mante and she had only been gone a few hours. After he howled he took off again. We ran for hours before Diesel tired himself out.

I got home and went straight to my room. I needed a shower before I talked to my parents. A soon as I walked in I was surrounded by Lexi’s scent. It calmed Diesel a little bit but he would be fully calm until Lexi was back in my arms. I grabbed a quick shower and went to my parents room. I knocked and waited for them to call me in. “ Come in Luther.” mom called out. I open the door to their room. Honestly their room is more like an apartment. They have a living room with plush beige carpeting. They have one four seater couch, a love seat and a dark brown leather couch. Hanging above the rarely used fireplace is a forty eight inch flat screen tv. All around the room are pictures of my parents and me as I grew up. It looks like a timeline of our life.

I hope to see Lexi and any kids we have up there one day. And I don’t mean just the ones that may be biologically mine. Any kids Lexi has will be mine as well. Since I found out that Lexi has two mates I have thought long and hard about this. I have even talked with Diesel about this. We agreed any pups from this union would be our as well as her other mates. I just hope the other mate feels the same way. But that is for another time. My parents are on the couch. My mom is practically in my dad's lap. Kind of gross to see your parents like that. Sweet also. After twenty plus years together they still can’t keep their hands off each other. I want that for Lexi and me.

“ Have a seat, Luther. Tell us what is on your mind.” dad said. I sat on the other end of the couch they were on and turned to face them, bringing one leg up and bending my knee. Mom, dad. There are two things I want to talk about. They both have to do with Lexi. I The first thing is about her powers. You didn’t see it but when her wolf took over she threw Carry across the room with just the wave of her hand. Lexi said ‘pain’ and Carry was screaming. She was able to command me. I haven’t seen her do those things before.” I told them.

“ I’ll have to talk it over with the Elders but I do have two possible theories. The first is these powers are related to her wolf. She only has them when her wolf comes forward. The option is that Lexi’s wolf showed her these new powers.” dad said. Both seemed plausible. “ Okay. Now the second thing. How do I fix things with Lexi? She looked terribly hurt by what happened. And her wolf wasn’t pleased with me either.” I said. Mom looks at me “ I don’t blame either of them. I talked to Freya after Lexi left. She told me you did what amounts to nothing when Carry was rubbing on you and whispering in your ear. With your mate with her head on your shoulder. And never once while everything was going on and Carry was whining to you did you say you had a mate. Only a few know Lexi is. The rest of the Pack is clueless. And that is going to cause more problems like this. Can you imagine how it made Lexi feel? No one knows about her. Like she is some dirty secret or not good enough for our pack to know.”

“ That was never my intention. Lexi is plenty good enough to be my mate and Luna. Hell she is better than I am in every way. And I didn’t mean to keep her a secret. I just like keeping her to myself.” I told mom. She smiles gently at me. “ I know that son. I have seen it with my own eyes how good a Luna Lexi will be. And wanting to keep her to yourself is normal for new mates. But Luther keeping her to yourself has done damage. When Lexi is here all she does is train. You haven’t taken her out to meet any of our members or showed her the grounds. I know you still haven’t shown her Diesel yet like you promised her.” Wow, mom is right. I haven’t done any of those things like I should have.

I should have taken Lexi on a tour with her proudly on her arm. “ And after what Aiden did you hiding Lexi away. I’m sure it hurts her. But she isn’t going to say anything. Hell, the poor girl probably thinks it is normal since she doesn’t know anything about being in a pack.” mom said. “ Luther, I had overheard some of our members talking. Some know you have found you mate. Or think they know. But either you rejected her. Or you are too embarrassed by her to introduce her.” dad said. “ But none of that is true other than me having a mate.” I said.

“ I know that but the pack doesn’t. And I’m sure if I have heard it Lexi has too.” dad said. I run my hand over my face. Diesel chimes in “ We let mate down.” “ I know buddy. We will fix it.” I told him. “ So what do I need to do? I can’t lose her.” I asked. “ I would clear up today’s incident. Then I would take her around the pack. Start with the house. Let her meet everyone who works here since they will see her more than the others. And when you do keep your hands on her. Hold her hand. Have your arm around her waist. Let the pack and Lexi see that you are proud to have her on your arm and by your side.” dad said.

“ Then I would take a page out of Aiden’s book. Take her out. By yourself and with Aiden. And for crying out loud. Tell her how you feel. If she is your one and only. Tell her. If you love her already tell her. Lexi is already insecure about a lot of things. She has told me. Don’t let this be another. Never let her doubt how she feels about you.” mom said. They have given me several good ideas. Now I just need to add my own touch to them. I hug my parents and thank them for their help.

I race to my room and begin making plans. The first thing I’m going to do when Lexi gets here is take her in my arms. The second thing I’m going to do is introduce Lexi to the house staff. If Aiden tags along so be it. “ Show her me. Lexi wants to meet me.” Diesel says. “ That is next on the list. I promise.” I told him. She has been wanting to meet him for a while now but I keep putting it off. Not for any reason but I do. But it is time for Diesel and Lexi to bond. Then if there is time before she trains I’ll take her to the pack hospital. Get her used to the doctors and nurses. Get her used to them since she will need check-ups and if she were to ever get injured. “ Take Lexi to the daycare. She will like seeing the kids.” Diesel barked. “ Good idea. And then the school.” I said. Diesel and I spent the next few hours going over all the places we wanted to show Lexi and all the people we wanted her to meet. The most important first then down the list until she met all of the pack.
