Aiden

I know my dad was against me rejecting Lexi and had hope I would change my mind. That is not going to happen. I know I’m doing the right thing. I found the books dad told me about. There were three of them. It didn’t take long to find what I needed. It said that both parties will experience some pain but the rejected will feel more. It is a risk I am willing to take. I’m sure it won’t be bad.

Razor hasn’t talked to me since I left dad’s office. What he has done is sent me pictures of Lexi. Lexi smiling. What he thinks Lexi might look like naked. Those were hard to ignore. I see Jesse walking behind Lexi before she enters the shop. I linked him “ I need to talk to Lexi for a minute. Don’t be seen.” He gives me a weird look then shrugs his shoulders. He knows I have been avoiding Lexi so it must seem strange to want to talk to her. He stays back but stays close to Lexi as I approach. He has been very protective of Lexi since he met her. Melissa and Jackson have been following Lexi too just at a distance. They have given orders from the Elders to keep Lexi safe but they said their wolves would do it without an order.

“ Hey, Lexi.” I call out before she can get to the door. She turns around and looks in my direction. Her hair is down and the sun is hitting it just right making it look like it is on fire. Her cheeks are pink from the cold. Her eyes, while not shining right now, are bright. Fuck she is beautiful. I can imagine how good she would feel in my arms. If only she wasn’t human.

When she sees me and her smile drops. “ Oh, Aiden. What can I do for you?” I hate to admit it but her cold attitude towards me hurts. I push that thought down. I don’t need it. “ Lexi, I need to talk to you for a second.” I told her. “ Go ahead.” she said. I motion my head for Lexi to follow me. She huffs but does. We go around to the side of the shop away from prying eyes.

“ What do you want, Aiden? I have plans.” Lexi said. I can tell she is getting irritable. Hell, I can feel it. Here goes nothing. “ Lexi, I need you to listen to me.” I said. “ You will never be good enough for me. I can’t have someone like you by my side. My family and pack will never accept you. So I, Aiden Cline, future Alpha of the Aspen Rain pack, reject, you Lexi Winthrop as my mate.” I said. As soon as the words came out I was riddled with pain. It took everything in me to keep upright.

The books said there would be pain but I didn’t think it would be this bad. I look at Lexi and she looks like she feels nothing. She has to be in some pain right? Instead she has her arms across her chest looking pissed as hell. “ Aiden, I have no idea what you are talking about.” Lexi said. I notice her eyes are glowing. “ You called me over to insult me. When I have done nothing to you. You don’t know anything about me. And you tell me I’m not good enough.” Lexi yells.

The more she says the brighter her eyes glow. The glow is spreading beyond her eyes. It is like it is surrounding her. The brighter the glow the more intense my pain is. I hear Razor howling in pain. “ Make her stop Aiden. Take it back. Please.” he begs. “ It is you who aren’t good enough for me, Aiden. You took one look at me and decided I’m beneath you.” Lexi says in a voice I can only describe as a Luna voice. How can she have that?

“ Are you that arrogant and full of yourself? I never even pursued you and you have the audacity to say that shit to me.” Lexi growls. She growls like a wolf. Lexi's whole body is glowing aquamarine now. Suddenly I’m not just feeling my pain. I feel Lexi’s disgust, anger and hatred. I hear howling in my head but it is from more than just Diesel.It is coming from multiple wolves. Dad links me “ What is going on? Our whole pack can feel your pain mixed with someone’s anger.”

Jesse links next “ What are you doing to her? Why are we all feeling this?” I don’t get a chance to answer because Lexi is talking again. “ I don’t know what you said. But it must mean something to you so I’m going to repeat it.” A wave of pain so strong comes over me and I drop to the ground. It feels like my chest is in a vice. I can’t breathe. “ I, Lexi Winthrop, accept Aiden.” She stops like she is thinking. “ Aiden, make it stop. Now.” my dad yells through our link. “ Your mother has collapsed,” he said. What is going on? How is Lexi doing this? She is just a human.

“ Once she accepts the rejection I'm sure it will stop.” I linked everyone. “ You're rejecting your mate? And we all can feel it. You have to stop this now. You may kill us all.” Dad links. “ She is your mate? And you are rejecting her?” Jesse shouts. I hear dad yell “ Jesse stop this if you can. Don’t let her finish.” My vision now has black spots. I feel like I’m going to pass out any second.

Lexi resumes what she was saying “ I, Alexandria Winthrop, accept Aiden Cline, future Alpha.” Lexi, stop. Don’t finish that sentence.” Jesse yells. When did he get here? I don’t care. I’m just grateful he did. I can't take it anymore. I see the glow fading.Lexi turns “ Jesse, what are you doing here?” she asks. I hear Jesse gasping for breath “ Lexi, don’t finish. Please.” I look up and see Jesse hunched over and sweating.

“ Jesse goodness. Are you ok? Are you sick?” Lexi asks. She is able to catch him before he falls. How is she holding him up? Jesse should have knocked her over with his weight. But she is holding him like it is nothing. Lexi looks Jesse over with genuine concern. “ I’m going to be fine. What is going on here? Did Aiden hurt you?” Jesse asks. He is looking at me still down on the ground with pure hate in his eyes.

“ Not Jesse, he didn’t hurt me. Just my feelings. It is sweet of you to ask. And nothing is going on here. I was just wasting my time with this ego driven jackass.” Lexi looked over at me like a piece of gum she scraped off her shoe. “ Jesse, why don’t you come with me for coffee. You look like you need to sit down.” Lexi said. Jesse shook his head “ I'll be fine soon.” Lexi doesn’t look convinced. “ Are you sure?” she asked. Jesse smiles and places his hands on her shoulders “ I promise. I will be fine.”

I hear a voice call out “ Lexi?” She turns to the guys and smiles brightly. “ Luther.” The new guy walks up to Lexi and wraps his arm around her waist. He smells like a wolf but not from our pack. Razor doesn’t like him. But Razor can’t do anything more than whimper. “ Are you ready?” the guy asks Lexi. Lexi looks over at me with one last glow of her eyes and says “ Yes, I’m done wasting my time here. Time to hang out with someone who does think I am worthy.” I see Lexi turn her back just before I pass out.
