Chapter 22
Lexi
Argos lifts his head and lets out a small bark. I laugh, “ I didn't know you could bark.” Two more wolves walk in and stand next to Argos. “ These must be your friends.” I lift my hand to the tan colored one. “ May,I? I just want to make sure you aren’t hurt.” He sits on his hunches and lifts his head. I look him over and see he is fine. I scratch between his ears “ Thank you, sir.” I turn to the other wolf that is more golden “ How about you miss? Can I look you over?” I asked.
For some reason my gut is telling me that this wolf is female. This one lays down so I can. For anyone who is watching us this has to be a strange interaction but it is fine for us. “ You three are fine. Thank whatever God looks over wolves.” I said. I look at the two newcomers “ you two didn’t have to jump and help but you did. I will forever be in your debt. Although I’m not sure how to repay you. But I will figure something out.” I look at Argos and the new wolves.
“ How about I give you a name at least.” I said. I looked at the female and whisper don’t worry, this won’t hurt. I let my eyes glow until I get a name. Don’t ask me why I do it. I have never figured it out. But I can feel when someone is good and it helps me name them. “ You are a warrior, a protector. You need a name that suits that.I have got it. I will call you Myrina.” I said before I turned to the male. I looked into his eyes and I could see he was a proud warrior as well. “ And you sir I will call Ajax.” I nod to myself “ Yes, those names seem fitting for you two. Again I thank you for your help. And I’m glad you are safe.”
I look around anticipating Luther and Pasty to look at me like I need a straight jacket and a padded cell. But instead I see them smiling. That was not what I expected. “ I can explain. I think. I will try to anyway.” I said. “ Wow.” I hear from the door and see several people including Aiden. When I see him I stand and move closer to Luther bringing my wolf friends with me. Luther wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me to his chest. I have two wolves beside me and one in front. I place my hands on the wolves beside me. I don't want that moron trying to hurt them.
I look at Aiden and remember how he insulted me and made me feel like crap just because he is an asshole. It pisses me off that he is here. I let myself glow, not giving a shit who sees it. I let it spread to surround all of us. “ What are you doing here asshat? Come to sling more insults while I’m down.” I growl. I know how it sounds but I did. Aiden doesn’t say a word just looks at me in shock. He will get over it. Or not. I don’t care. “ Oh, I get it. You want me to say that silly rejection thing. Don’t you? It is really that important to you that you would come to a hospital to do it. Fine.”
“ I, Lexi Wintrop.” I said but stopped when Aiden walked into the room. My wolf friends growl at him baring their fangs. “ Easy friends. He won’t hurt you or me. I won’t let him. Besides he is a good for nothing windbag that likes to kick a girl when she is down. I will finish what I have to say and he will scurry away to find someone who he thinks is more worthy of him. Someone his.” I tilt my head and smirk “ his pack and family will accept. Isn’t that right? Aiden” I snear and let my glow go out more. “Because I won’t be good enough. And he decided this after three five minute conversations. I never even tried to pursue him. I could feel his hatred for me. A lowly waitress and student. But as I said it is you that is not good enough for me. So I will finish your little speech since it is so important to you. Then I never want to see your face again.”
I let myself go more not caring that Aiden looks like he is going to double over. Or that the entire room is glowing. I will not be a pushover to this douchebag. I open my mouth to do the rejection thing and get this over with. But an older man comes forward “ Miss, I can see you are upset. Rightly so. But I’m going to have to ask you not to say it. Please.” he says. I notice he is sweaty and looks like he is going to fall. The wolves growl a little so I turn my full attention to him. “ Easy. This man isn’t going to hurt us. He means no harm. Do you sir?” I asked.
He smiles “ No, I don’t. I just need you to not accept the rejection.” “ You know what it means?” I asked. “ Yes, and I promise to explain,” he says. He seems sincere so I smile “ Sure I won’t say it But you make him leave. I don’t want to see him.” I asked. He turns to Aiden “ Son, you heard the lady. Leave.” Aiden’s jaw drops “ But dad.” “ Do it now. She is right. You have no business here.” Dad. Oh shit I just insulted Aiden in front of his dad. Aiden leaves but doesn’t look happy about it. His dad turns back to me “ Sir, I am sorry I insulted your son in front of you. That was disrespectful. I didn’t know.” I said. I make sure to back down my glow.
He holds up my hand “ No need. How about some proper introductions instead. I’m Henry Cline.” I shake his hand “ Alexandria Winthrop. Lexi.” Mr. Cline looks down at my furry friends. “ You have some interesting protectors.” “ I guess. To me they are just my friends.” I introduce the two at my side first. Then I kneel down and lay my arm over Argos. “ And this is my best bud, Argos.” Mr. Cline smiles “ He looks like he is a good man.” I give Argos a rub and stand up. “ He is.”
Then I introduce Pasty and Luther. “ I know them but thank you.” That was odd. Now that I’m done dealing with Aiden I notice a bunch of odd things. “ Forgive me but what are you doing in my hospital room?” Luther comes to my side “ Lexi, baby. You might want to sit down. We need to talk.” Oh no that doesn’t sound ominous at all. But I do.
