Chapter 149

Ryan
“ I have seen the former Alpha Nevel so excited to see Lexi he runs into the room she is in.” Calissa laughs. So does most of Riverclaw. We have all seen Alpha Nevel do it. Even if he saw her the day before. The time he went a week without seeing her her knocked over a housekeeper trying to get to Lexi. After we made sure he didn’t hurt the woman we got a good laugh out of it. The housekeeper, Louise, was a good sport about it saying she should have not stood between Nevel and his granddaughter. “ I haven’t seen it myself but I have heard the stories from not just Iron River, and River Claw but from my pack as well. I have heard how Lexi has trained exceptionally with all those packs. I have heard how she has fought even harder side by side with the warriors against the rabid wolves and more recently vampires.” she said.

I look over at Lexi to see her blushing. She doesn’t like it when people praise her. She says she is just doing what is right. A shout from the crowd draws my attention. “ You are damn right she did.” “ Fought as hard as the rest of us. Right beside us.” another shout. “ When all was said and done her first priority was her warriors and guardians.” came from where Aspen Rain. “ I know there isn’t a warrior here that would hesitate to fight by Lexi’s side again.” All you heard was “ Hell yes.” Poor Lexi’s face was bright red. I loved hearing it.

The guardians at our feet stood taller, heads held higher and if my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me they were glowing a little bit. I see the audience's eyes look like they are going to pop out of their heads suddenly. Maybe my eyes aren’t fooling me. I peek at Lexi to see if she is seeing it and she winks at me. Did she have something to do with it? “ No silly. It is part of the gift Mother had given them on Lexi’s birthday. Look at you and Luther.” Arya giggled. I look and sure as shit we are both glowing. Luther, the guardians, Lexi and I are all glowing. We match Lexi. This is so fucking cool.

Lexi places her hand over her heart and bows deeply. She does this to each pack of warriors. As Luna she isn’t supposed to bow to anyone. Lexi doesn’t follow the normal path of anything. “ I don’t need to give my blessing as Lexi takes her position. She doesn’t need it. I can see she has won many of you over. I’m going to give it anyway. I am honored to be able to give my blessing for Lexi to be the next Luna of Iron River.” Calissa said and stepped back. She went to stand beside my dad. She and Henry have been a source of great support for my dad when Lexi and I aren’t available. Even Luther has stepped up. My dad now jokes that he has two sons. I’m grateful to everyone who has helped out my dad.

Standish, an Elder from Aspen Rain and Lexi’s teacher are performing the ceremony. He volunteered since he has a special connection with Lexi. All the Elders do but he has since she first walked into his classroom. Standish steps out from behind all of us and holds his hand out to Lexi. “ My Queen,” he says and bows. Lexi bows to Standish with a giggle. “ Elder,” she says taking his hand. Standish leads Lexi to the podium that is set up with everything needed for the ceremony. Luther and I follow.

I can’t believe this day is finally here. Not only is it Lexi’s Luna ceremony but I am officially taking over as Alpha of my pack. My parents have been ready to retire for a few years now. They were just patiently waiting for me to be mated. They got their wish. Now I stand before not only my pack, Ryan’s pack and Aiden’s pack as well as several guest packs. I have my mate at my side as well as a good friend. We stand in front of the podium for Lexi to be sworn in and bonded to the pack. Standish gently holds Lexi’s hand over the bronze bowl. You see he is going to cut our hands and let a few drops into the bowl. If the blood mixes then the Moon Goddess has blessed our union. As if we don’t already know she approves.

If the blood separates the Goddess disapproves the union. It is considered a bad omen and is said to bring destruction to the pack. I have only heard of it happening twice. One was a force mating. One party wasn’t willing to be mated. The other was a chosen mate. The forced mating broke apart. The chosen mating thought they knew better than the Goddess and went ahead. The pack was hit with tragedy after a disaster. It wasn’t long before the pack fell apart and disbanded. I know that won’t be an issue for us.

“ Lexi Winthrop, daughter of the Moon Goddess, accept the role of Luna of Iron River and RiverClaw?” Standish asked. “ I do,” Lexi replied instantly. “ Do you swear to protect its members like you would your pups?” he asked. “ I do,” she said. “ Will you fight alongside your packs in times of need?” was his next question. Before Lexi can answer some shouts “ She already has.” Lexi lifts her head towards the shout and says loud enough for everyone to hear. “ Always.” Standish smiles. “ With your mates do you promise to lead the packs to the best of your ability? Putting their needs before yours?” Standish asks the last question. “ Until my last breath,” she said. I don’t like thinking about Lexi’s last breath but she is stating how serious she is.

With that Standish carefully slices Lexi’s palm. You would think it was hurting him the way he is being gentle. I can see he doesn’t like hurting Lexi. None of us do. He knows Lexi will heal in no time. Faster than Ryan or me. I watch the blood drip down her palm into the bowl. Just as quickly I watch her hand heal. Standish gives Lexi a cloth to clean herself up. I’m a little surprised that he didn’t try to clean her hand himself. Now it is my turn. I hold my hand out to Standish.
