Chapter 32
Aiden
“ Oh, I. Oh. I already promised Jesse I would have lunch with him. I’m sorry.” Lexi said. Jesse placed a hand on her shoulder “ Lexi, it is ok. I think you should go with Aiden. You two do need to talk. We can have lunch another time.” “ Are you sure? I had already made plans with you and it would be rude to break them.” Lexi asked. Jesse nods “ Yes, I’m sure.” Jesse leans in and whispers “ Hear him out. I know you don’t know about the Goddess yet. But she paired with Aiden for a reason. Even if he was an ass at first. You both need each other. Just like you need Luther. Maybe think about giving him a chance if he asks.”
Lexi nods “ I’ll try.” As Jesse heads to his truck he links me “ Don’t fuck this up again. I don’t think she will give you another chance. Good luck.” “ I won’t.” I told him. I turn to Lexi “ So where would you like to have lunch?” I asked. “ Jesse and I were thinking chinese. I have a craving for sesame chicken. Is that ok? We can do something different if you want.” Lexi asked. “ That is fine. I know just the place.” I said. I held out my arm for Lexi to grab and she did. Those sparks that I now live for erupt all over my body. Why did I try and give these up? I could never get this from a chosen she-wolf. And I don’t think they will be as strong with a second chance mate.
Razor grumbles as I lead Lexi to my truck. “ Second chance. Pft. More like second best.” he said. He is probably right. Most of the time he is. Will our second mate glow like Lexi does? Doubtful. Will she be chosen by the Goddess to fulfill a prophecy? A chosen destiny? Not by a long shot. Will she be powerful like I feel in Lexi? No way. Razor is right, our second chance will be second best next to Lexi. I need to stop Lexi from accepting the rejection. At all costs.
Razor and I can’t go through it again. It will destroy us. I drive Lexi to the restaurant in silence. I don’t know what to say. Or do. I never thought I would have to win my mate over. I don’t know what to do.” Try asking her about her day. How she is feeling.” Razor said. He is full of good ideas today. We pull up and I park. I jump out and run around to Lexi’s door opening it for her.
I’m rewarded with a smile and blush. Damn she is adorable. I lead her inside fast so she doesn’t get cold. Well, colder. We are seated right away and order drinks. As Lexi looks over the menu I get the guts up to ask “ How was your day? Your classes?” Lexi lays her menu down. “ It was good and weird. Standish is being extra protective. I think he would have walked me to every class if it wasn’t for Jesse and Jackson.” she said.
“ You knew Jackson was there? He was supposed to stay out of sight.” I said. I was angry that Jackson was spotted so easily. How can he call himself a gamma? Lexi places her hands on my clenched ones. In a voice that sounds like angels are talking to me Lexi says “ Don’t be angry at Jackson. He did his job well. It wasn’t his fault I felt him.Or his wolf before I saw him. I’m not sure He was two buildings away. I called him out and told him to stop hiding.” Lexi said.
I felt warm and calm. Lexi was calming me down. Razor purred in my head and rolled on his side.So much for the bad ass wolf I have grown with. I grasp Lexi’s hands and squeeze. “ I won’t be angry at him.” Lexi smiles. How can I get her to do that more? “ Good now let’s order. I’m starving.” We both order. Lexi gets a large order of sesame chicken with pork fried rice, wantons, dumplings and egg rolls. For a wolf that isn’t a lot but for her I think it is. We make small talk until our food arrives. I found out she grew up in the human world and how her grandma and a man she thought of as an uncle trained her to control her gifts so she wouldn't stand out. That man I now know was an Alpha of a pack near them.
Lexi told me she always felt different but never knew why. She is still not sure of this chosen one stuff. She thinks the Elders got the wrong girl. I don’t say it but I don’t think they did. Lexi fits everything they described. She said that she would like to let them train her so she can control her abilities.
Our food comes and Lexi dives in. I don’t think she is even tasting the food. I like seeing her have an appetite. Lexi looks up and sees me staring. She wipes her mouth as she finishes chewing. “ I’m sorry. I have been hungrier than normal lately.” she said. “ I think it may be your body’s way of preparing you for your wolf. You will burn more calories when you get her.” I said.
Lexi nods, “ Just another thing I don’t understand.” I can’t imagine being in her place. Finding out your whole life has been a lie just to protect you. “ So you said you wanted to talk. What about?” Lexi asks as she takes an egg roll. I take out the gift I got her. I slid it over to her. Lexi puts down her fork and asks “ What’s this?” “ It is two things. A peace offering and knowledge.” I said. Lexi picks it up and unwraps it.
She opens the journal and flips through the pages. “ I thought it might help you. I broke down everything about wolf packs in the simplest form. We have books in the library you are welcome to read to learn more but this gives you an idea. The books can take forever to get to the point.” I said. Lexi doesn’t say anything as she carefully flips the pages. When she looks up at me she is smiling but I can see the tears that have appeared in her eyes. But I’m not getting sadness from her.
“ Thank you, Aiden. This is very sweet of you. And it will be helpful. This is the knowledge part but I’m confused on the peace offering.” she said. I let out a breath knowing she likes it. “ The peace offering is me asking you for forgiveness. I want to show you I’m not always an ass. And for misjudging you. I have been taught never judge a book by its cover. My mom used to say ‘ You never know the wonders that are inside.’ So how I forgot that when I saw you. And I reacted harshly.” I told her.
“ Aiden never apologizes for your feelings. And yes, I will forgive you. I won’t hold a grudge for the mistakes of the past. I just hope you remember this when you are given your next mate.” Lexi said. She still thinks I want someone else. Damn, she isn't getting it. And that is on me. I’m just going to have to work harder.
