Chapter 47

Lexi
I woke up in a bed which was weird because the last thing I remember was standing in class talking to Standish. I was feeling a little dizzy and weak but I blew it off. Or tried to. I was seeing black dots and was unsteady on my feet. And now I’m waking up. My hands have extra weight on them and tingles going up both arms. The tingles are different so I know two people are holding my hands. I slowly open my eyes and turn my head to the right. I see an Iv hooked to my arm telling me I’m in the hospital. I should have picked up on it from the smells but I didn’t register it.

I look up and Luther looks down at me. He looks worried. I guess seeing me in a hospital bed again is a bit much for my strong wolf. I weakly smile at him. “ Hey, honey.” I said. Luther brushes some hair off my forehead and kisses it. “ How are you feeling, baby?” he asks. I take a quick inventory of myself and say “ Tired.” “ You will feel better soon. I promise.” he said. I turned my head to the other side when I felt my hand being squeezed. Aiden was sitting there his hair sticking up in all directions like he had been running his hand through it a bunch of times. He looks stressed too. But with all of that he is still hot as hell.

“ Aiden?” I asked. He smiles, “ It is nice to see you awake.” “How long have I been out?” I asked. “ A few hours.” Aiden said. I look back and forth between Aiden and Luther. “ And you both have been here the whole time?” I asked. “ Where else would we be?” Luther asked. “ Don’t you both have Alpha duties or something more important to take care of?” I asked. Surely there was something for them to do besides sit and watch me sleep. Aiden places his hand on my cheek. “ Sweetheart, there is nothing more important than you,” he said. I almost melted into him. “ And you two are getting along?” I asked. I knew Aiden was going to try and be friends with Luther but I didn’t expect it to go smoothly.

“ Let’s just say at the moment we tolerate each other. We have a common interest. You. Where it goes from here only time will tell.” Luther said. That makes sense. They are together because of their concern for me. But Luther isn’t giving any promises for the future. I know Luther is only tolerating Aiden at the moment because of me. If this mating is going to work they are going to have to do more than tolerate each other. Luther knows that and is trying. For me. Such a wonderful man.

“ So do either of you want to explain why I’m here?” I asked. Luther’s eyes glaze over as he links someone. Probably Freya or his dad. Aiden tells me I passed out in class. Jesse and Freya rushed me to Luther’s pack hospital. After a blood test it turns out my blood sugar crashed because my metabolism speed went to that of a wolf. “ So how do we fix this so it doesn’t happen again?” I asked. The door opens and an older but handsome man walks in. Judging by the white coat he is the doctor. Don’t they have any ugly people in these packs? It must be a wolf thing. Aiden’s pack is no different. Good looking people as far as the eye can see.

Behind the doctor is Luther’s parents. Christine runs over to me pushing Luther out of the way and envelopes me in a tight hug. When she pulls back she says “ I was so worried when I heard. Thank the Goddess it is something we can fix easily.” I place my hands on hers. “ I’m sorry I worried you. I didn’t know what was happening and I brushed it off.” I said. “ How are you feeling, my dear?” Evan asked. “ Tired but other than that fine.” I said. “ I asked Aiden how we can prevent that from happening again before you guys walked in.” I told them.

The doctor steps forward “ Young Luna, I’m Dr. Clarence. I can help you understand what happened and how to fix it.” I hold my hand out for him to shake it. He does and bows. “ Doctor, I'm still getting used to the Luna thing. In private would you call me Lexi.” I said. He bows and says “ As you wish.” “ Lexi, before Clarence begins we have to say we are sorry.” Evan says. “ I don’t understand? What do you have to be sorry for?” I asked. “ When we were preparing you with everything you needed to know we didn’t take into account your physical health.” Evan said.

“ You mean with my wolf getting ready to show herself and how it would affect my body.” I said. “ Exactly.” Christine said. “ You have nothing to be sorry for. You have been doing everything you can to prepare me for the new life I’m going to lead. You had no way of knowing getting my wolf would have an effect. This is all normal to you. You don’t know any different and couldn’t have anticipated anything. The thing we need to do now is fix this and be more cautious.” I said. Evan chuckled, “ Spoken like a true Luna.”

“ So Dr. Clarence, what do I need to do?” I asked. “ I have a list but may I ask a few questions first. I need to know all the changes you may have been experiencing.” he asks. I nod. He powers on his tablet. “ Lexi, have you noticed any changes in your appetite?” I explain how I’m hungrier and I eat more than I did before. Also I’m craving more meat than before. “ What about being hungry between meals?” he asked. I told him I was but ignored it. “ And have you been feeling fatigued?” he asked.

“ I have been a little more tired than I normally am. I figured that was because of school, the physical training and training with the Elders. And making sure I have time with my mates. I’m not used to all of it. I thought I would get over it.” I said. “ I see. The first thing I’m going to ask you is quit ignoring your body. It is going through numerous changes getting ready for your wolf to emerge. The second is we need to change the way you eat. “ Clarence said. “ How so?” I asked. “ You need to eat four means a day and two snacks. “ he said. My jaw drops. That sounds like a lot of food. Clarence laughs “ I know it seems a bit much but it is necessary. Addition to the amount we need to change what you eat. High protein and carbs. And judging by your iron levels you need to increase your red meat intake. Lean cuts of steak are good. And some high iron vegetables and fish is good. Your main meals should be mostly meat and carbs. Your snacks can be anything you want including junk food. I recommend at least one that is high in sugar.” he said.

I’m trying to mentally add up how much this new diet is going to cost me. “ Is there an alternative to steaks? Could I take a supplement or something? And can the protein be mostly chicken?” I asked. “ We could try supplements but they usually don’t work on shifters. And would like you to have a variety of protein. Chicken, beef and pork. Do you have issues with red meat?” he asks. I shake my head and whisper “ Just the price.” I guess I didn’t speak low enough because I noticed everyone is looking at me. “ I’ll figure it out. I’ll ask Patsy about working some shifts at the diner. I haven’t been gone long so maybe I can get my job back. Anything else?”

“ I would like you to come in for blood work once a week. I want to stay on top levels. I would to do a complete physical on you so we will notice any changes.” Clarence said. “ I don’t have any insurance right now. Do you have like a payment plan or something we can work out? I have to check my bank account but I’m sure I can make a down payment.” Everyone in the room looks at me like I sprouted horns. “ Did I say something wrong?” I asked. Christine grabs my hand “ No sweety, you didn’t. You just made me realize we skipped a few things when we explained about packs. Don’t worry about the money right now. Just let the doctor do what he needs to keep you healthy. Do the blood work and check ups. We will deal with the rest later.”

Not sure of what to say I just nod. I trust Christine so hopefully she will help me figure something out. “ And you need to eat something after any physical training. With your wolf and everything else it will drain you fast.” Clarence said. “ Not a problem. Can you print me a list for this diet? I won’t remember all of it.” I asked. Clarence smiles Of course young Luna. I have also emailed the kitchen staff. If you promise to eat and take it easy for the rest of the night we can get you out of here.” I wanted to ask why he would email the kitchen but my stomach chose to let out a loud growl. After a round of laughter Clarence unhooked the Iv. Luther and Aiden helped to the packhouse to get something to eat. I guess my new diet starts now.
