Meeting The Kids

Valerose

I’m pulled from my pondering when I feel Lexi push on my chest to sit up. She has a sad look on her face that I never want to see. “ Val, I’m so sorry. I didn’t think when I asked Luther and Ryan to join us. I should have.” she says. That is what she is sad about. She thinks she may have hurt my feelings by doing what comes naturally to her. Oh no. I place my hands on the sides of her face. I look into her eyes so Lexi and Arya can see I’m telling the truth. “ Lexi, my queen. Never ever feel bad doing something that is normal to you. I’m not upset. It is me that has to catch up. I will talk to Ryan and Luther. We will figure things out. I will adjust.” I told her.

“ Promise?” she asked. I smile at her. I seem to be doing that a lot around her. “ You can feel that I do.” I said. Lexi lifts up and gives me a quick yet sweet kiss. “ Thank you for understanding. I feel like I have said that many times lately.” she giggles. “ Now that that is settled. I believe you might want to find out the second reason.” I said. Lexi turns to Ryan and Luther “ Are you going to tell me the second reason?” “ You have visitors.” Ryan states. Lexi tilts her head. “ I thought we were supposed to have the day off before we started our duties. We need it. There are so many changes about to happen we need a day to relax and be us.” Lexi said. She does have a valid point. However, I get the feeling they wouldn’t have bothered Lexi if the visitors weren’t important.

“ Yes, baby. We are having the day off. I give you my word.” Luther told her. Lexi looks at Ryan for clarification. Ryan shakes his head. “ Honey, what Luther is failing to say is the kids are back.” he says. Lexi screeches and jumps up so fast I would have missed it if I had blinked. She runs to the door. Luther grabs her before she can reach it. “ Luther, the kids.” Lexi pouts at being stopped. If I wasn’t confused I would think it is cute. Hell, it’s cute anyway. “ They can wait long enough for you to get some clothes on.” Luther told her, trying not to laugh. Lexi looks down as if she just noticed she was naked. “ Shit. Give me two minutes.” Lexi yelled going to the dresser.

I’m confused as hell. Who are the kids? I know Lexi doesn’t have any kids yet. Ryan looks at me “ Get dressed. Lexi isn’t going to wait for you. We will explain.” The kids are obviously important to Lexi given her reaction so I want to be part of it. I get up not caring that I’m naked. Wolves are accustomed to nudity so me being naked should be no big deal. I grab the clothes I had from the night before making a note that I need to get my clothes from the hotel. I will probably send Embrose to do it. I’m sure he needs some as well.

I see Lexi dressed and bouncing at the bedroom door. “ Come on Val. The kids are here.” I don’t bother with my shoes, just my pants and shirt. “ Let’s go.” I say as I continue to button my shirt. Lexi is out the door in a flash. “ In the kitchen, baby.” Luther yells. We take off after Lexi following her glow down to the bottom floor and to the kitchen. Lexi comes to a sliding stop in front of the counter. I look and see six wild wolves? Lexi drops to the floor, opens her arms “ My babies.” she cries out. What I see next has me in complete shock. All six surround her and lay on her like a puppy pile. Lexi was loving it. She was giggling and glowing white. Her laughter was contagious.

I heard other giggles and turned to see where it was coming from. I saw several wolves had joined us. Including a few kids. All giggling at Lexi’s display. Yet none of them looked shocked. Or even confused. They were acting like this was a normal day. Hell, maybe it is.While Lexi plays with the wild wolves Ryan places a hand on my shoulder. “ Let’s grab some coffee. Luther and I will explain.” he said. I didn’t care about coffee, however I wanted to know the story. When we got to the breakfast bar an older lady put a cup of coffee that smelled like it had vanilla in on the bar before placing a cup in front of Luther and Ryan. Then she approached me. I could tell she was trying to hide it but I could tell she was a bit nervous.

“ King Valerose, I wasn’t sure what you might like. I have tea, coffee, and juice.” she told me. It is going to take me some time to get used to the wolves calling me king. My vampires did it out of fear or respect. The wolves I believe are doing it out of respect for Lexi as well as Ryan and Luther. I will have to earn their respect. I want to settle her nerves. I’m sure this is the first time she has stood so close to a vampire, never mind talking to one. All the people here are important to Lexi. And she is trying to be friendly. “ It is just Valerose. I would love some black coffee. Mrs?” I tell her, leaving it open for her to tell me her name.

“ It is Mary, my King. I will get your coffee.” she states and turns around. I gather she isn’t going to call me by my name. I let it go. I hear more giggles. I turn to see that Lexi has been joined by some of the pups of the pack. They are petting the wild wolves and hugging them. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I would have never believed it. I hear a clink of a cup being placed on the counter in front of me. “ My Kings, if there will be nothing else I have some treats to prepare.” Mary says. I turn just in time to see her walk to the fridge. I didn’t even get a chance to thank her. “ Drink up. It’s story time.” Ryan says with a laugh.

Just as I take my first sip Luther launches into the story of the wild wolves. It turns out that they are part of the second set I sent to try and kill Lexi. She subdued them with the help of loyal warriors. They brought them back to Luther’s pack and with the help of a witch Lexi was able to remove the spell on them. Lexi nursed them back to health. She treated them as if they were her pups. I asked why she didn’t release them. Turns out she did but they never go far from Lexi. No matter where she is, they find her. “ I’m actually surprised they didn’t show up last night.” Ryan says.

Just as they end the story I catch the scent of more wolves. Two to be exact. I’m not the only one who picked it up. Several of us turn to the sliding glass door that leads to a back porch. Yet no one moves. I’m not sure what I should do so I’m going to let someone else take the lead.
The only one that moves is Lexi. She sits up and glows white. I feel a sense of calm wash over me. I’m not the only one feeling it. “ It seems we have some new friends.” Lexi and Arya say. It is still odd to me to hear them speak at the same time. One of the wild wolves that is with Lexi barks at the newcomers. We all watch as they timidly walk into the room and up to the wolves. No one moves. We just watch. The two new ones stand beside two of the “ kids.” I watch Lexi push her glow out to surround all the wolves. Suddenly she gasps. “ Oh my Goddess. They are Vice and Carmen’s mates.” she says in awe. “ It’s alright little ones. I won’t hurt you.” Lexi says as she holds her hand out to the two new ones. The new ones approach Lexi with their mates at their side. Lexi never moves a muscle. She lets them touch her hand with their nose. She begins to scratch them on their nose and I swear they melt into her. “ Mary, could.” is all Lexi gets out before Mary calls out “ Already on it my queen.”

I watch Lexi’s hand move to the side of the new wolves and her glow gets brighter. “ Oh my, little one.” It was Arya this time. “ Mary, could you give this one a little extra. She and Vice are going to be parents. To three pups. I’m a grandma.” Arya calls out. When the shifter pups who have been quiet up to this point, hear this they yell out “ Yeah, more puppies.” This earns chuckles from several people. Ryan and Luther get up and slowly walk over to who I’m guessing is Vice. Luther scratches him behind the ears “ Congrats, buddy.”

Ryan looks at the female wolf “ Welcome to the family, little miss.” Arya calls out “ Lola.” She points to the other wolf “ He is Theo.” Lexi pulls her glow back just a little. “ Val, honey. Would you come here, please?” she asks. Honey, I like it. I get up yet make sure to move slowly. I stand by Lexi’s side and sit on the floor next to her. “ My babies, this is Val. Another mate. Hopefully the last.” Lexi giggles. Then she proceeds to introduce all the wolves. She named each and every one of them.

“ I know he smells different. But he is a good guy. You have my word.” Lexi tells them. Lexi grabs my hand, turns it palm up and holds it out. She whispers “ Stay very still.” After about a minute, one wolf, Vinny I think, comes over and sniffs it. I guess judging if I’m a threat. When he sees that I’m not, he rubs his head over my palm. That one gesture seemed to have opened the gates because one by one the others did the same with the exception of the two new ones. Just in time I guess because Mary calls out “ Kids, snack time.” That’s all it takes for the wolves to abandon Lexi and I and head to Mary.

Not even an hour into the day and Lexi has blown me away. Again. I can’t wait to see what the rest of our life holds.
