Chapter 28
Lexi
I was overloaded. I thought my brain was going to melt and start coming out of my ears. I couldn’t take anymore. I didn’t know what to make of what the Elders said. I didn’t know all of them but I knew Standish and I trusted him. And none of them looking like this was some big joke. Everyone of them looked serious. Like life or death serious. But it was becoming too much. I had to get out of there. I had to get back home. To something familiar. I needed to shut my brain off.
Then there was the run in with Razor. He was so sweet. And adorable. I just wanted to hold him after he told me he didn’t want to reject me and all the things he was going through to try and change Aiden’s mind. He may have thought he was hurting Aiden but he was also hurting himself. I couldn’t let Razor continue to do that. So I talked to him and told him to try to get along with Aiden. Not just for himself but for Aiden as well. I may not like Aiden right now but I feel like they need each other. I’m hoping Razor will listen to me.
Luther drove me home since he was the one who drove me to the pack hospital the day of the attack. One of the conditions I agreed to for coming home is having one of my guardians follow. I’m still not sure if I believe in this prophecy stuff or that I’m the person they are talking about but it made everyone feel better for me to have an extra person with me. I dread seeing the state of my backyard. All that blood and possible dead wolves. I was told they were regular wolves. Not shifters. But it doesn’t make me feel better.
Noone knows why they attacked us or can explain the red eyes. I know from my studies that what they did and how they acted was not normal even for wild wolves. They don’t just go after someone for no reason. And they didn’t have a reason. We weren’t in their territory and we weren’t a threat. Regardless of the reason they deserve to be buried.
When we get home I quickly show Luther and Melissa around the house. “ Melissa, you are welcome to anything you want. Though I don’t think I have much. I need to go to the store.” I told her. “ I’m going to check the back and see how bad the clean up will be.” I said to both of them. “ Baby, stop. Alpha Cline and Jackson came over with some guys and cleaned everything up. Even buried the wolves. We didn’t want you to worry about it.” Luther said. “ Oh. That was nice of them. Remind me to thank them later.” I said.
“ Luther, will you be staying with me?” I asked him. I didn’t want to be alone right now. “ As long as you want,” he said. “ Forever long enough.” I laugh. Luther smiles, making his eyes light up. “ Sounds good to me,” he said. “ I’m going to take a shower. Make yourselves at home.” I said. I wanted to wash away the attack and the grossness from laying around in bed. “ I need to make some calls. I have to let my parents know what is going on. I’ll be down here if you need me.” Luther said.
“ I’m going to shift and do a quick patrol. I’ll hear you if you shout.” Melissa said. “ Have a nice run. And could you apologize to your wolf for me. I know I named her and that wasn’t far to her. I didn’t know she already had one. And tell her it was nice to meet her.” I said. Melissa smiles “ You just did. We looked up the name. It means guardian. She likes it and she says it was nice to meet you as well.” “ Thank you. What is her real name?” I asked. “ Amber.” I roll it around in my head. “ I like it. Like I said, make yourself at home. Both of you. Luther, I'll be back in a few.” I told them as I headed up stairs.
I went straight to the bathroom. I turned the shower on to the hottest setting. I strip out of the borrowed clothes and put them in the laundry so I can wash them and return them. I jump in and just lean against the wall for a minute. I let the water run over me to help clear my head. Hot showers always do that no matter what time of year it is. The hotter the better. I have even made my skin red from the heat. My mom and grandma used to worry about it at first but when they saw it didn’t bother me they stopped. I wonder if it has to do with my wolf genes.
Nope. Not going there. Not right now. I will deal with all of this later. I still have the letter to read. Maybe I can find out more from it. But like I said later. I grab my shampoo and scrub my head. I want to make sure I get all the blood out of my hair. I know Dr. Thorp cleaned me up the best he could but I swear I still feel some in there. I rinse and condition. While that is sitting I scrub every inch of me twice.
After I was sure I was clean I got out, dried off and put on some comfy sweats. I wasn’t going anywhere for the rest of the day. I didn't see any reason to get dressed. I rushed down stairs to see if Luther was still there. A small part of me didn’t believe he was real. Like a dream. When I got there I saw Luther sitting on the couch on the phone. I let go of my breath I didn’t know I was holding. He was still here. Just like he said he would.
Luther got off the phone and turned to me. “ Feel better?” he asked. “ A little. Luther, did you mean what you said? About the mate thing.” I asked. Luther stands up, walks over to me and pulls me into his arms. “ Lexi, I meant every word. I will explain more about mates when you are ready. But know this. I’m your mate and I’m not going anywhere.” he said before kissing me on the forehead.
I leaned into him and laid my head on his chest. “ Luther, can I ask a favor then?” I asked. “ You can ask anything. I will do my best to give it.” he said. “ Could you kiss me? I want to forget everything. Just for the rest of the day. I want you to help me with that.” I said. Luther didn’t say anything. He reached down under my knees, lifted me up and wrapped my legs around his hips. I’m shocked and squeal. I grab his shoulders “ Luther? What are you doing?” I giggle.
“ I’m helping my sexy mate forget her day.” he says as he walks us over to the couch and sits down. Before I can say anything else he slams his lips on mine. I moaned when his tongue skimmed over my bottom lip. I opened up for him and let him in. I shivered when his tongue twisted with mine. The sparks that are there when he touches me are stronger and cover me from head to toe. I twist my tongue with his trying to keep up. I don’t know what I’m doing so I let him take the lead. Luther ran his hands up my sides under my shirt leaving goosebumps.
