Chapter 56

Razor was in control while I watched what was going on. Razor surrounded Lexi on one side while Diesel was on her other side. Razor looks at the wolves surrounding us. “ What are these things? They smell like regular wolves but something is off about them.” Razor asked. “ I don’t know. The first time Lexi was attacked Luther and Melissa said something about rabid red eyed wolves. These must be like them. They have to be after Lexi.” I said. “ Over my dead body will they get her.” Razor growled at the wolves. “ I’m with you.” I agreed. I watch Diesel's eyes glaze over so I know he is linking for his warriors. I wish we could talk to each other. I know one thing we agree on and no words are needed for it. Keep Lexi safe. We are going to have to work together to do it.
“ I know you want to keep me safe. But try not to kill all of them. We need to know what is happening to them.” Lexi said. “ Lexi is right, Razor.” I said. “ Mate smart.” Razor agreed. I can’t say anything else because four wolves jump at once. All aiming for Lexi. We watch Lexi drop and roll under Diesel for cover. I jump and grab one by its neck and throw it against a tree with a sickening crack. It slides down the tree but doesn’t move so I go after another. Diesel and I circle around to keep Lexi covered. Or try to. There are too many. I sling the wolf I have and see another coming towards me. Two are going for Diesel. I turn to grab it but never get the chance. Lexi managed to jump over me and side kicked the wolf away from me.
It flies back only to be replaced with another. Diesel grabs one by the legs and whips it over his head. We watch Lexi grab one, wrapping her tiny arms around the neck and body slam it to the ground with a thud. Leaves and dirt spray the air from the impact. Damn, she is quick. But I have no time to enjoy watching my mate be a badass. More of these fuckers keep coming. Where are they coming from? Razor sees one go for Lexi’s back. He runs over and shoves the wolf causing it to fall down. Razor stomps his large paw on it, holding it down. He lowers his head, grabs a leg in his teeth so hard I hear a break, then rips the leg off, tossing it. Blood now covers Razor’s muzzle but he isn’t stopping.
Diesel charges between two wolves. I go for one and him the other. I try my best to keep Lexi away from the fighting but it isn’t working. Either she goes for a wolf or she defends herself from one. “ Mate doesn’t kill. Just subdue.” Razor said. I noticed that too. Lexi punches, kicks, slams them down, even putting them in a choke hold. But she doesn’t go in for the kill like Razor and Diesel are doing. We were tearing these wolves limb from limb. I jumped on the next one biting into his throat and pulling, nearly taking its head off. I watch as a new wolf jumps over Lexi and tackles a rabid one. Judging by the size and smell it is a shifter. Back-up has arrived.
I see some fighting as humans and others as wolves. “ Protect Lexi at all costs.” someone shouts. “ Who is Lexi?” a moron asks. “ The glowing one you idiot.” another shouts. We watch as three wolves surround Lexi and fight by her side. We watch a rapid jump at Lexi’s head but the smaller of the three is ready. It jumps and digs its claws in the rapid wolf’s belly and drags down, opening it up. Guts and innards spill out covering the shifter. Lexi is still fighting but I can tell she is slowing down. “ Razor, Lexi is burning too much energy. We need to finish this.” I said.
Just as I said that I see a rapid grab a hold of Lexi’s arm and we see red. Razor runs full speed. I see Diesel running too. Lexi puts her hand in the rapid’s mouth and prys it’s jaw open then fling’s it. “ Wow.” I said. I see another one jump but before I can get to it Lexi puts her hands in the air and yells “ Enough.” The rapid stops mid air and is just hanging. Lexi’s glow is pulsing out of her holding it that way. None of us move. Just stand frozen watching Lexi. The rabid growls and snaps at her. “ We don’t want to hurt you.” Lexi said to the wolf her eyes never leaving the rabbids. “ Does she think that wolf understands?” I asked Razor. “ I don’t know. But who am I to question her. We don’t know if she can communicate with it. It could be one of her gifts.” Razor said.
Fair point. “ I don’t know what happened to you. But you have my word we will find out.” Lexi said to the rabid. Lexi steps closer to it. Diesel and Razor go to block her. She doesn’t need to get closer to it. “ My friends and I want to help you. But you have to calm down. Can you do that?” Lexi asks. I watch as a pulse leaves Lexi and goes to the wolf. We all watch it’s body relax. “ Is she calming the rabid?” I asked. “ I think she is. Look.” Razor said. The rabid is still hanging in the air, floating, so relaxed it’s eyes are closing. Razor moves his head around so I can see everyone else. Humans and wolves alike have their mouths hanging open watching Lexi in awe.
Lexi carefully lowers the wolf to the ground. She turns around and sees fifteen people in different forms watching her. “ Thank you all for coming to help us. It is greatly appreciated. I will inform Alpha and Luna of what you have done.” she said and bowed a little to them. “Diesel, we need to have someone gather all the unconscious wolves we can and secure them somewhere until we can talk to the Elders.” Lexi called out with Luna's authority. When has she been able to do that? I see a few humans moving around checking the bodies. “ Damon, we need to get the wounded sent to the hospital and treated. Even if you are just scratched up and think you are fine I would feel better if you got looked over.” she said. I see a tan wolf nod his head. “ Kratos, can you get some of these guys to help you bury the bodies?” she asked. A blonde wolf nods and goes to the woods. I guess to shift back. If they are anything like us we have clothes stashed in various places around our land.
