Chapter 166
Lexi
I can’t believe my babies are here. I rested for an hour before Cantor and the nurses brought them to us. I know Arya, mother and Amira told me the babies were going to be healthy, I need to hear it from Cantor and see for myself. When I had all three in my arms Cantor gave me the news we had been waiting for. Luther was on my left. Val at my head and Ryan on my right. “ My Queen. My Kings. I am happy to report that the triplets are perfectly healthy.” Cantor told us. I wanted to relax but I sensed that there was more he wasn’t saying. “ Arya?” I asked. I need to make sure she is feeling what I am. “ I sense it.” she said. “ Cantor, what aren’t you telling me?” I asked him. My mates stiffen at my side like they are bracing for the worst.
I don’t get the feeling it is something bad. Cantor sighs “ Queen Lexi, I will be blunt with you. The triplets already show signs of having some of your gifts. That in itself makes them something I don’t know much about. We don’t know what other traits they will get from you or their fathers. Will they be part vampire? All wolf? There are many unknowns about the triplets.” “ Arya?” I question. “ He is correct, Lexi. There are many things we don’t know. The most important thing is that they are healthy. We have three incredible mates by our side. All of us will handle what comes.”
She is right. I’m not going to panic over what could happen. I looked at my mates, smile and push out some of my calming glow so they know I'm alright. Then I address Cantor. “They are healthy. That's all that matters now. We will handle the rest as it comes. I trust in us and mothers. They can guide us if needed.” refer to Amira as mother as well since she is my mother in law.
Cantor's shoulder sag in relief. He probably thought I was going to be upset that he didn't have any answers for me. There isn't any reason for it. Just like when we were trying to figure me out. My mates nod in agreement.
“When can we take Lexi home?” Ryan asked. He knows I'm not a fan of hospitals. They all do.Lexi your accelerated healing has kicked in so I don't see any reason to keep you or the babies in the clinic any longer. I still want you to take it easy for a week no sex for at least three weeks.
The last part didn't thrill my mates but I know they understand. Besides, just because he said no sex doesn't mean we can't do other things. “You heard the man. Let's get our kids packed up and take our queen home.” Luther said just before he started to pack me up. Ryan goes to help with my discharge papers. Val helps me place the babies in their bassinet then helps me get dressed. Even though I have shifter healing. Faster than most but I’m still a little sore.
I gave birth to triplets less than three hours, give me a break. It takes less than twenty minutes to get my paperwork and get the babies bundled up.I’m so ready to go and get in my own bed. We decided to walk back to the packhouse since it was a pretty day. Luther has Andros in one arm, the other around me. I’m holding Atrio. Ryan is at my back carrying my bags. Val has Artamis securely in his arms as we walk out the clinic.
Val
As we walked to the packhouse I cradled our sleeping daughter in my arms. Ryan, Luther and I talked endlessly when we found Lexi was pregnant. No matter who the father is, the babies belong to all of us. Things change slightly once the babies were born. I just knew that each of us fathered one of the babies. While Lexi was napping I brought my concerns to Luther and Ryan. They confirmed what I felt.
Ryan is the biological father of Artio. Luther is Andros and little Artemis belongs to me. We agreed that it didn’t change things. We are their fathers and nothing was going to change that. I can’t wait to see our kids walk. Hear them talk. I never thought I would be a father. I vowed the moment I found out Lexi was pregnant I was going to be the best damn father I could be. To all three babies. Do I know anything about being a father in this day and age? No fucking clue. I don’t remember my father.
However, I’m not alone in this. I have several examples of good men to learn from. Ryan and Luther’s fathers for one. Once they got used to the idea of Lexi having a vampire third mate they took me as their own. I know we can go to them for advice if we need to. Those are worries for another day.
We just arrived at the packhouse. I noticed it is unusually quiet. The packhouse always has people moving around doing something. Kids running around. Housekeepers, cooks, you name it. This packhouse is a central hub for both packs. There are people in and out all the time. It should never be this quiet. I’m not the only one who has noticed. Lexi, Luther and Ryan are just as confused as I am.
Ryan opens the door and we walk in surrounding Lexi. We walk through the foyer to the living room as a group. The first thing I see is our living room is packed with people. In front of the group is Christine, Calissa, Henry, Kent, Nevel, Patsy, and Evan. Behind them is every one of Lexi’s guardians and their mates. There are so many more people behind the guardians I don’t even know where to start.
Above them is a banner that says “ Welcome Home, Babies.” Lexi squeezes herself between Luther and me. “ What is all this?” she asks, looking around at everyone. Nevel approaches first with his arms open to Lexi. “ This my granddaughter is a welcome home, meeting the babies party.” Lexi goes willingly accepting his hug. Calissa is next. “ We figured if we have everyone over at once you won’t have visitors for the next several days.”she says.
Not a bad idea. Luther, Lexi, Ryan and I stand side by side. Luther, Lexi, and I turn the babies where they can be seen. Before we can make introductions all the guardians and their mates step forward and bend on one knee. They place their fist over their hearts and say as one “ We pledge our loyalty and our lives to protect to the princes and princess as we do for our kings and queen.”
“ My loyal guards. I have always been grateful to you for your protection. For your friendship. But this, I have no words enough to express what this means to me. To us.” Lexi sniffles. I have to say the Goddess chose an exceptional group of people to be Lexi’s guardians. Three have stayed by her side when they didn’t have to. Lexi did a lot of it on her own. She can’t help but bring people in.
I guess the babies sensed something was up because they started to glow. That shocked everyone and you heard several “ Awws” After the shock wore off we proceeded to introduce the babies to everyone. The rest of the night was a blur of the babies being passed around. Nevel had a hard time giving up Artemis. He didn’t want anyone but Lexi to hold her. I thought for a minute Calissa and him were going to fight over her.
I have to tell you. Never in my hundred plus years did I think I would have a family. Children. Hanging out with shifters on a daily basis. Having casual chats with them. Sharing a mate. But here I am. And I can’t wait to see what the rest of my life has in store.
The End
