Chapter 136

Ryan

After we left Lexi wanted to go to Qwinn to pick up a few things while we were close. Melissa and her mate tagged along with us and we left Tyler behind. A few birthdays were coming up that Lexi wanted to get gifts for. Four birthdays in three different packs and she remembers them all. And they were all different ages. We picked up a doll for Molly who will be turning five next week. She is from my pack. Then there is the ceramic tea set we picked up for an older maid at Aiden’s pack. And two more for Ryan’s pack. She didn’t get a generic gift card or card. Each gift was thought out. It is sweet how she cares for each member of our pack. It is little things like this that make the packs love Lexi even more than they already do.

Our last stop was to get some treats for her babies. Yes, we still have the wild wolves. Sort of. They are no longer in cages and are free to go back in the forest. We all watched when Lexi told the wolves they were free. They did take off into the trees and Lexi was sad but knew it had to be done. They were gone a few hours before they appeared at the back door. That is where they slept. So they may be free but they are never far. All Lexi has to do is call them and they will come running from where ever they were. She even tried it at my pack and it worked. They showed up an hour after Lexi called them but they did come shocking my pack to see a pack of wolves walking through the pack lands.


Anyway, Lexi wanted to stop by this specialty pet store that makes all-natural treats and picked up some venison jerky. Only the best for her babies Lexi says and the venison is close to what they would get in the wild. And the wolves love the stuff. We were headed back to our cars when suddenly Lexi stopped and growled. She was looking at a shop in front of us. Or more like it past the shop. I was trying to see what she is seeing or smelling because she is sniffing the air as well. “ Lexi?” I asked. “ Vampires,” she states pointing towards the shop in front of us. “ Melissa get your mate to safety. I feel hostility coming from them. Ryan, Luther and I will lead them away from everyone.”

I followed Lexi as she made her way to an alley beside the building without question. Why did Luther and me not take charge? Simple, Lexi is a born leader even if she doesn’t realize it. She can see, hear and smell things the rest of us can’t. Luther and I follow Lexi to an alley between the buildings the alley opens up to a service street for the stores to accept deliveries. Just beyond that was the forest. Most of the town is surrounded by forests. All the towns are. Leaning against a tree is a pale skinny guy with a smirk. I can finally smell the moldy musky smell of him. I could smell more behind him I just couldn’t see them.

“ What are you doing here?” Lexi asked. “ We have a message for you.” the guy said then walked further into the forest. Of course, we followed. Fifteen feet in we are surrounded by six more vampires. “ What is the message?” Lexi asked growing impatient. “ You need to die.” another one says before he charges at Lexi. Another jumps at me and one at Luther. “ Guardians, we are under attack,” Lexi called out in a group link she shouldn’t be able to do. I felt Lexi’s guardians from my pack instantly alert. “Backup is on the way. We just have to hold them off.” Luther linked as another vampire jumped on him.


Luther

It seemed like for every vampire we took down two more came into the fight. I was getting clawed. We all were. Five minutes ago Lexi's guardians showed up. Even Tyler and his mate Billy even though Lexi had given him time off. I killed three that I know of. Their main goal is Lexi. They want her dead. What changed? Valerose hasn't been this aggressive before. He has only sent vampires to watch Lexi never to hurt her. As I twist the head off another vampire I think something isn't right about this. I see a flash and see a vampire charge at Lexi with a knife. " You will never be my queen." Before he can even get close Lexi waves her hands and the guy bursts into flames. If I wasn't so busy I would admire it. It was pretty cool to watch. But the smell was horrible. I noticed not only Lexi's guardian's from my pack and Ryan's pack where but so were the ones from Aiden's pack, Elite warriors from my pack and some Elders from Aiden and my pack. All heard Lexi's call and came to protect her. I saw Standish launch himself in wolf form in front of Lexi to protect her. He grabbed a vampire by the neck in his jaw and swing him like a rag doll until his head broke loose of his shoulders.

I was so caught up in what was going on around me I didn't see a vampire coming at me. I heard Lexi scream " LUTHER!" and saw the vampire burst into flames. But not before he dug his claws into my side slicing me open. Fuck that hurt. Lexi ran over to me as I dropped to the ground. " Luther, honey?" Lexi said as she put her hand on my bloody side. All around us there was still fighting. " I'll be fine baby. It'll heal in no time." I told her. Lexi didn't look convinced when she pulled her hand back to see it covered in blood. Lexi lost it. She stands and starts glowing a deep red like crimson as she growled " No one hurts my mate." Lexi a blast of her crimson glow to every vampire but one. The one that Melissa happened to be holding. The glow makes the vampire burst into ashes. No flames, no burning, just ashes.

The bleeding has slowed but hasn't stopped and I'm getting lightheaded. That has never happened before but I have never been in a fight like this before. And never injured this badly. I defiantly need to be checked out by a doctor. " Melissa don't let that fucker go. I want answers." Lexi shouted taking control. " Aiden may we send the injured to your pack? " Lexi asked. When did Aiden get here and why was he fighting with us? Another question for later. " Yes, I will link Throp to be ready," Aiden said. Standish steps to Melissa and said, " We can transport this guy to our cells." He pointed to the squirming vampire that is still stuck in Melissa's claws. " I'll never go anywhere with you mutts." the vampire yells as if he has a choice. " Oh shut up," Lexi said. With a wave of her hand, the vampire goes limp.

Lexi, Jackson, and Jesse organize everyone to head out without being seen. We can't exactly walk through town covered in blood and scratches. Or in wolf form. That would draw way too much attention. That we do not need. Ryan comes over and helps me off the ground. " We are going to get you to the doctor. You aren't looking good and Lexi is freaking out," he said. I look over and he is covered in blood, claw marks and scratches. " What about you?" I asked. " I'm better off than you but yeah she isn't happy," Ryan said as he helped me to a waiting van. where the hell did that come from? Ryan answered the question I didn't say. " Standish linked Henry and had it all set up," he said as he helped me into the van. As soon as I was seated I blacked out.
